からかい上手の高木さんVR 1学期

Edit: No word on the Oculus exclusive content, but English subtitles have been added! Hope to see the Oculus stuff brought to this version soon!

Newly released Oculus version contains more content and English subtitles. Steam version has not received an update since June of last year. The Oculus version is not available in my region, (UK). Until either the Steam version is updated, or the Quest version is released in UK, I will leave a negative review to express my dissatisfaction.

Banyu Lintar Angin - Little Storm -

Banyu Lintar Angin - Little Storm -

It was hard for me to write a review about this not even 3 minute lasting “game”.

This because, Banyu Lintar Angin is not really a game, it’s not a visual novel either, it’s actually a slide show of hand drawn illustrations.

It’s showing the lives of 3 siblings that are living together in Indonesia.

The hand drawn illustrations are absolutely stunning, adorable and cute!

The music is really catchy and fitting too.

But in all honesty, I don’t see why this has to be on steam…

I was expecting so much more than just a slide show of drawings.

I was kinda hoping for a little more…..interaction in this game. All I did was rate girls on a scale from 1 to 5. No option to go behind the stage and do anything fun. The game even advertises nudity but there doesn’t seem to be any. Am I missing something?

Actually they can fix this if they could provide an official patch to add content not available in the Steam version, kinda like how they did for Kanojo VR. Then I’d say it would be totally worth it.

Definitely not worth $18 as of the date of this review.

I’d have preferred giving a “meh” instead of a thumbs down, but it’s definitely not a thumbs up, but Steam has no such option.

  • The models are all clones, except for the heads. Seriously, all of their bodies are exactly the same.

  • The animations are atrocious. The girls walk with their backs with their butts sticking out at an impossible angle of nearly 90 degrees from butt to center of spine. The walk looks like they have a crowbar caught between their butt cheeks. Their walk at their feet looks like a forward moonwalk, as the models are moving at a faster speed than the walk animation. It looks weird.

Yuki Onna | 雪女

Yuki Onna | 雪女

Yuki Onna is another great PS1 inspired title from Chillas Art, and fixed all the major problems I had with Aka Manto.

The sole reason why I am not able to recommend it in its current state, is because of a bug/glitch I encountered, which was over half of the time the reason why I lost my progress. If I decided to run any stairs up from the Yuki Onna, I found myself stuck on the stairs, what seems like a texture glitch. The Yuki Onna somehow clips into me, making it impossible to move anywhere. The same happens once she is in her second form. If she gets too close, or I try to run past her, I get stuck inside her, unable to move yet again. My own failure is acceptable, but this makes it beyond frustrating.

This game is really good. You explore what appears to be an abandoned onsen trying to rescue three children who’ve been kidnapped by Yuki Onna, and if she sees you, then she’ll chase you down and freeze you until you die. It has PS1-style graphics that are very-well suited for this type of game; the low fidelity of the models and textures combine well with the dark, claustrophobic setting for a surreal and very eerie effect. Yuki Onna herself is relatively scary the first couple times you see her, but as she continues appearing you eventually get desensitized to the scare, and since the game doesn’t have any other spooky tricks, don’t expect to be shivering in fear the whole time. There are also a couple jokes, just enough to keep the game from being too dour without spoiling the atmosphere.

This is a very lovely travel attraction tourist app that succeeds in making South Korea an attractive tourist destination in Virtual Reality. Currently, there are 4 different locations that you can visit, as well as take part in mini-game type activities. The activities include stuff like throwing arrows into a jar, taking photos, or watching a fireworks show.

The artistic style used to recreate the different places in South Korea is very charming. The locations are well detailed and look absolutely great in VR. There is no locomotion. You do need standing room (or swivel chair) with the ability to reach around 360. The music, while not bad, wasn’t as memorable, simply because it seemed nondescript. It should be noted that although you can choose English, there are no English VOs. You will simply get translated text.

WHY DO I HAVE TO DO MATH IN THIS GAME!?

! There should be a prize for getting the question right, though. New dialogue, y’know? That would’ve been funny.

Oh my, this was such a good experience. I loved the SFX and soundtracks played throughout the game. I personally really enjoyed the change of pace with the perspective swaps alongside the story, specially how dynamic it was, making everything more interesting to read.

Also, this story gives me a feeling of nostalgia that I don’t seem to find very often while reading. I don’t know why though, it might be just a me thing, but the plot felt really relatable. Not only this, but I loved how it kept going. Most stories just go to a certain point then just sums what happens after. This actually shows you, it’s SO interesting, I loved the interactions between the characters, felt so much real and wholesome, while sometimes intense. This was such a fresh experience, I wasn’t expecting a free visual novel to be this good.

This is a very interesting visual novel game, good story, good graphics, not much interaction, barely any to be honest. I will finish tomorrow, possibly. This is actually a pretty good length, pretty long visual novel game.
