All Ashes and Illusions

All Ashes and Illusions

“Women are snakes and liars, all of them: the more beautiful, the more conniving. Don’t let your guard down, or they will ruin you.”

Yuel was only six years old when he witnessed his mother being put to death, for the heinous crime of daring to have an affair. For other women, such a folly mightn’t have been so lethal, but for Yuel’s ill-fated mother – the wife and queen of Indra’s tyrannical king, Khalil – it spelt her doom.

As he witnesses his mother’s corpse decomposing beneath the intense sunlight, Yuel’s father offers him some sage words of wisdom: namely, not to trust women. They are, in Khalil’s words, wicked and deceitful, and becoming too attached can end in nothing save disaster.

Outwardly, Yuel must swallow his sorrow, for fear of earning his father’s ire. Kings are not, after all, supposed to cry; even future kings such as him. In private, however, Yuel turns to his nursemaid, the kindly Safiya, for succour. Safiya is Yuel’s only ally in the palace: his father cold and distant; the servants deferential, brow-beaten, and kept silent through fear. Without Safiya, Yuel would be all alone…

Yet she, too, abandons him, when Yuel grows old enough to no longer need a nursemaid to tend to him.

Bereft and embittered, Yuel has nothing to look forward to, until – after a prolonged illness – his father eventually dies, and Yuel inherits the throne and the crown in his stead.

No longer a young boy – Safiya’s ‘little prince’ – but a grown man, Yuel plots to win Safiya over once more. Unable to forget about her, and unable to trust any other woman, Yuel cannot conceive of a life without her. She did promise to stay with him, after all - and, single-minded to a fault, Yuel is determined to see this promise fulfilled at any cost.

LONELY, LUSTFUL, ARROGANT, HATEFUL

I’ll have to downvote this because of the LONGNESS of the first two challenges, either you encourage to replay or you make it utterly painful, sheesh.

The characters, the idea and the mystery are pretty decent tho.

The game is a series of puzzles followed by character dialogue until the ending which is something else. Any mistake during the puzzle section is fatal for one character who is then permanently absent for the rest of that playthrough. Every dialogue segment is unique for every combination of surviving characters.

I have mixed feelings about the puzzles. I liked them on my first playthrough, but they do not have any replay value and you will likely have to replay them multiple times to unlock extra story content. My favorite part of the game is the dialogue which feels intriguingly offbeat. I also just love the survival-puzzle game idea which I haven’t seen before.

Slice of life VN/sim + cute voice acting + enchanting visuals/audio = A light-hearted story of a boy, female ghost and music. Earn $ to buy items and the next story episodes. Addictive like Kdrama.

Well worth the price for being called Oppa.

The story and characters develop at a nice pace with the sim portion intermittently. Furthermore, the mood is colored by lovely music.

Luminescence

This visual novel by Genetic Studio features 2 students Ady Sagara and Rena Alexandria. Ady and Rena are both the only members of their school’s literature club that is floundering with no activity or new members. One day, a student Karen Veronica approaches Ady with a request to help her undo a curse that is causing her to fail or scrape through every test and exam with a passing mark.

The story and plot is written as a drama with supernatural references. The game has only 1 choice which will lead to 3 possible endings with one ending that can be reached after a few seconds delay before making the choice or after saving game during the decision point.

This VN is worth to buy. The art is flawless, the BGM is match with the story, the story is super touching, but it’s just too short. I hope they release the 2nd episode to describe more about the characters personality and problems. Little bit grammatical error but still easy to get the point.

THIS IS AN AMAZING VN!!

Keep going Genetic, don’t stop making novel like Ady did … LOL :P

Big Dipper

Big Dipper

Big Dipper is a short, romantic kinetic visual novel full of fairy-tale ambiance. It’s a sweet story about two people drawn together by fate, by quite magical circumstances. I must admit sometimes, especially at first, I thought that the plot was a tad unrealistic and unbelievable, but you know what, you should just let yourself relax and dive into that fantastic atmosphere. I even recollected those childish years when dad used to read me fairy-tales before I fell asleep. And sometimes I wondered how those things could even happen and the answer was always–‘It’s a fairy-tale. Everything is possible there’. Thank you so much for making me remember that wonderful feeling!

Big Dipper is a short romantic visual novel, the artwork is pretty and the characters look nice. It has a little bit of mystery and it’s a cute fantasy fairytale story. It could have been a great story if the developers would have taken their time to write more about it and give the story the room to breath that it deserves.

Dreamy Planet

Dreamy Planet

Haruka and Shiina used to be inseparable. They grew up together, went to school together, and ardently believed that they would always be best friends.

That was before Haruka’s breakdown, however.

Worn down by her demanding job as a nurse, Haruka abandons her old life, and her old best friend, and moves back in with her parents. Believing herself to be a failure, and too ashamed to see Shiina again, Haruka retreats into herself and her depression, and despairs.

It isn’t until almost five years later that Haruka and Shiina reunite. At Shiina’s behest, the pair of them make an impromptu trip to a favourite haunt of theirs from their youth: an outdated theme park on the outskirts of Nara called Dreamy Planet.

Dreamy Planet was once a popular park, but it has since fallen into disrepair. The park was closed down several years ago, owing to dwindling attendance numbers, and it has been left in a miserable state: the spinning teacups, the roller coasters, and the carousel all left to rust.

Together again, Haruka and Shiina pick their way through Dreamy Planet’s carcass, and as they do, they recall fond memories from their past. Dreamy Planet might be beyond salvaging, but perhaps their relationship can still be saved – if only Haruka can find the courage to finally tell Shiina how she really feels.

  • About 40k words of text (approx 2-3 hours of reading)

  • A kinetic story with no choices/branches

  • Custom character artwork

  • A large variety of gorgeously rendered backgrounds

  • A custom OST

  • A dreamy, nostalgic tone

  • A very cute (and very tortured) heroine ♥

Please note: While this is a yuri story about a romantic relationship between two women, the protagonist, Haruka, is engaged to a man throughout the duration of the story. This is an important plot point, which gets referenced several times. In addition, the story does not have a happy ending. Please proceed with caution, if you think this story would upset you.

A very deep and meaningful story, some people are too quick on judging others for being different or what they wish to be. This is a one of a kind story I haven’t found any other visual novel as powerful as this one and I wished it got more recognition.

Great = Soundtrack, take My heart

Laid-Back Camp - Virtual - Lake Motosu

Laid-Back Camp - Virtual - Lake Motosu

As the biggest fan of Yuru Camp, it’s super comfy!! The price might not be worth it for those who aren’t into the anime or into CGDCT, but it’s a great game for fans of Yuru Camp and those who want to experience something calm and comfy once in a while. The graphics are pretty nice; it might need a little more detail to the environment and further exploration of the whole Koan Campground area instead of being stuck in two places, but I guess that’s how most VR story-telling games work. The story is pretty much what you’d expect from a Yuru Camp episode, pure comfy and heartwarming cuteness that makes me love the two girls even more. I even like the small bit of NadeRin moment at the end of it~ Though I wish there was more to the gameplay and interactivity to make us feel more immersed in the campsite.

First of all, at the time of this writing the listing says “VR Only” but you can totally play it without.

I have played it with and without. VR Headset is an HP Reverb G2 and working without problems. Also take note that this is more an “experience” than is a “game”.

For the price, as much as I’d like to, is hard to justify if you don’t have VR headset.

The interactions are limited and the game could use some chilling music during downtime if you just want to stay in a scene.

The graphics are okay but it’s nothing groundbreaking. The atmosphere in the scenario greatly improves during the noon/evening and night, but it feels a bit cheap during the morning. I’m wondering if it has taken some damage on the PC release being a cross-platform title that includes android phones.

Death is always a hard topic. The mysteriousness and inevitability surrounding it can captivate, frighten, and intrigue. With the loss of life: it plants itself like a seed, with its roots spreading to all the minds that knew that person. Much like a weed, it’s hard to pull away in its entirety. To see that loss permeate throughout one’s way of life speaks volumes in a sense where no words can explain; and where that journey takes us is through the life of various students, finishing out the last years in high school, writing their Last Stanza.
