BERSERK and the Band of the Hawk

BERSERK and the Band of the Hawk

DO NOT BUY this game unless you are a huge Berserk fan (buy it on sale).

Cons:

-Its a game focused on extreme repetition, killing and killing thousands of extremely weak masses of enemies. Slash, repeat, slash repeat every single level.

-You need to play it on hard right from the start to find it a little bit more enjoyable and even then it is almost impossible to lose in any scenario.

-Scenarios have nothing special on them, they are closed, completely plain and need no exploration at all. Very repetitive.

This is a game for Berserk fans, if you’re after a more filled out hack and slash game there are better options out there. I enjoyed myself playing this title but I’m an old Berserk fan. Like similar games in the genre it can get boring once you beat the story and try out the other modes just slashing apart humans & monsters repeatedly, the different play styles of characters and the various objectives do make it more interesting, and it is a great title like others in the genre to play while watching or listening to something on the side.

Heya! Zombie Cecelia here!

This is gonna be my first proper-ish game review on Steam so expect a not so much a review than me waffling review

So I bought this game on release (15.02.2019) and played a bit of it before work and stuff happened so was too busy then kinda forgot about it for over a year and only just got back into it about a week ago… Oops!

I guess because I can’t physically go outside due to sickness and the lock-down, meaning my favourite bookstore is closed, gave me the incentive to pick up Visual Novels (VNs) again (I usually prefer reading from a physical book rather than online buut let’s not delve into the reasons for it lol plus VNs have their own magical quality so it wouldn’t be fair to compare the two… but I digress because this is meant to be a review)

(This article was written as a blog post )

Heart of the Woods looks like a nice interesting love story about 2 girls, one human, one ghost. It’s homo, so it’s just what I needed to escape from the real world. Although it appears to involve love across the living and the dead, which is a concept that’s been done to literal death. But hey, the game is well-received, it’s on sale, the artstyle is new to me, and most importantly, it doesn’t appear to be too long. So I guessed it’s going to be a nice fit for the spare time I currently have.

Fallstreak: Requiem for my Homeland

Fallstreak: Requiem for my Homeland

Humanity has tapped into the very power of possibility and has doomed itself in the process. The MC is a child soldier tasked with fighting a war over scraps, and a chance for a few humans to survive advancing armageddon. This VN is a vicious look at war, love and human ambition. There are waifus, war crimes, well written scif-fi and extreme violence. Although there are certainly better looking visual novels, the character designs are appealing and the music is surprisingly good. There are even genuinely comedic moments in all of the grim dark (An old man’s joke about painting his wife’s canvas comes to mind). Of course those happy moments are a set up for an absolutely brutal series of events that will leave you feeling hollow at the end of it. Best $5 I’ve spent all year.

Rather than being a sequel to the original game, this game is the prequel. It explains alot of what happens in the original game.

While definitely shorter than the one before it, the writing, sound design, CG’s, etc. are still very good, if not better. Taking the brutal and gut wrenching descriptions of gore on a whole nother level (coming from my mind). The OST’s of this VN is amazing, perhaps at times better than the original one. While I am sad that this one doesn’t have as much gameplay to offer as the first Fallstreak, it is still a masterpiece. A diamond in the rough, just waiting to be found. Was it well worth the 4 euros I spent on it? Very. If you are reading this to see if you should buy this or not, then let me say that. This game isn’t a requirement, but if you enjoyed the first Fallstreak as much as I did then it is well worth the price.

Not a bad Yuri VN,

Fairly choice driven but not at the Level of Volley Ball Heaven or Room Mates, Those 2 are great VN’s (Though the later of those has Non Yuri options. Though Loren and Cursed Lands are the world of this VN and great to with Yuri and/or Non Yuri. But it is not in their league.

Enjoy it for what it is.

600Seconds ~The Deep Church~

600Seconds ~The Deep Church~

More than any other, I think the word “odd” describes 600Seconds the best. More compelling than the sum of its parts, 600Seconds combines exploration with a fairly short and straightforward third person shooter adventure through a church. Exploring the empty church in the waking world for items for ten minutes before your siege in the nightmare seemed, at first, an unnecessary and kind of obnoxious feature (ten minutes is a long time!) though it does help set a certain kind of mood, but after dying in the nightmare once or twice the interest was made more clear to me.

First and foremost, I think it’s best to remember that this is StudioGekko’s first title. So know going in that it’s not very complex, not very long, and may be prone to jankyness. All that in mind, I still had plenty of fun with the game.

Item placements are not random, so learning the layout of the church and location of everything was really fun. I like that there’s no text or story to read and that I can just make my own assumptions about what’s happening, though maybe a little more to see would’ve been nice. After my first couple of unsuccessful runs, I thought I was done with the game but I found myself coming back to it the next few days to learn more and give it another shot.

Dead Hearts

Dead Hearts

You can listen to OST on Gamejolt page!

In Dead Hearts you play the role of Zero, Nekojin living in a village in the mountains. One night the village is invaded by elite knights of the neighboring empire, Araynia. You, your sister and childhood friend, are the only ones to emerge from this event. After a successful escape, you are forced to survive in the wilderness and wander for a long time to a prosperous city to join the gendarmerie and take revenge.

Dead Hearts is an RPG with dynamic action, battles happen in real time with a view from above. Earn levels, items, silver, companions, new skills and better equipment to face increasingly powerful opponents. There are many different quests in the game to move the story forward… or to help a settler from the surrounding village with his problem of rats. The game has several endings, and some romance with some of the characters, as well as the dynamic character of the main character, which changes depending on the choices made or events in the game world.

The continent on which the action takes place was divided into 2 parts: Western and Eastern.

  • The western part is mainly desert, and is mostly inhabited by elves.

  • The eastern part is more diverse, both in nature and in the races living there.

In the west there are nations:

  • Theocracy of Elfrand

  • Dishan Empire

  • Satsuran Kingdom

  • United Commonwealth of Continental Nations

  • Chetiak

In the east there are nations:

  • Principality of Ywjilthar

  • Araynia Empire

  • Chetian Federation

  • Vrignian Monarchy

  • Polonian Republic

  • Abria

  • Wiederescian Republic

In the game world there are four, uncovered, humanoid races:

  • Humans

  • Elves

  • Nekojin

  • Angels

Iris Covenant –Song of the Forgotten Heroes–

Iris Covenant –Song of the Forgotten Heroes–

Iris Covenant is an unusually pretty JRPG for its quality - by which I mean, the character and monster art is all quite good, but the story is intentionally vague and also poorly translated from Japanese to English, and the mechanics are very simplistic and lacking, between character classes which are only defined by their names and skills generally not doing much except having 100% hit rate or hitting all enemies, but generally for less than your basic attack.

Its unique gimmick, being able to recruit almost any enemy in the game to join your party, is likewise set back by most enemies being mechanically terrible and thus not worth using even if you recruit them. Likewise, while it has NG+ and multiple endings, the two endings (at least, if there’s more, I don’t have any idea how I could reach them!) are very similar and also intentionally vague.

The game looks nice enough, I expected adult content but its surprisingly R15.

It reminds me a lot of “The Vagrant” and menus as well as stat mechanics are well implemented.

However, theres as of now no controller support and the game is basically point & click, which takes a lot of the fun imo. If you dont mind that, then its a solid game though.

LOST EPIC

LOST EPIC

Like Odinsphere in art style and difficulty, with a leveling system similar to dark souls. 10/10

You can only fight two bosses and five to ten minibosses depending on how you count them at the moment of writing this. However the combat is smooth and the story has some interesting hints from the bosses but is not very present right now. The combat can be difficult occasionally if you are not leveled up properly, otherwise it has a pretty decent difficulty on single player.

That being that at first you will have to fight strategically to not die, but as you level up you can go back to map areas where you had trouble and plow through them showing off your skill and level increase. There are special areas called mazes scattered throughout the map as you travel and quests that you can take on to extend game play.

I will give quick review on early access. I find most negative reviews are wrong and people only spend few hours on playing this great game while I’m really having fun to play this game, it’s really not difficult metroidvania and suitable even for casual & newbie players. That’s the reason the game made into cute anime to atract people that it’s fun to play.

These are the negative reviews I find are wrong:

❌ Mostly negative reviews saying it’s “repetitive gameplay”, while another metroidvanias games are basically the same. It’s wrong at all. This game is really fun which combines crafting, learning different skills, leveling your chars, building your skill tree.
