I recently received this game for free as a curator connect offer for my group Visual novel, JRPG, Anime. This kinetic visual novel from Studio Beast and Fruitbat Factory features a trio of unemployed teenage girls Arue Marisugawa, Koiro Hachisuka and Arara Fujisaki with Arue as the protagonist in this episode.

Arue, Koiro and Arara were ineligible to wear any authorization seal which renders them unable to hold any permanent stable employment and hence became Chuusotsu. Arue plans to take a re-evaluation exam and become a government official after missing a crucial exam during middle school from being hospitalized. To be able to survive in a foreign city on a stipend without having to work, Arue has to participate in an experimental study where she has to stay in Tabula Rasa apartments with Koiro and Arara, achieve sufficient synchronicity among themselves and give an answer to the philosophy of life.

Chuusotsu is a cute sci-fi slice of life medium length (by medium I mean between 8-18hs, anything above is already into the longer side) kinetic visual novel with a lot of layers behind the seemingly simplistic front.

You follow the misadventures of Marisugawa Arue as she tries to reform her life as a shut-in, reach her dreams and obviously make some friends along the way. However, things quickly take a turn into the weird and strange but thankfully with a satisfactory conclusion and lead up to the mini sequel.

This was so much more than I had expected! Don’t let the cuteness override the story line as it was very engaging and interesting. A good game with some awesome music!

Beautiful and wonderfully written. If you enjoy visual novels this is definitely for you.

Visually alone, this game is incredibly stunning and unique. For me personally I find most visual novels fall flat in this category so it’s refreshing to see a new take on it.

Storywise, I was never bored or felt like “yeah okay whatever” so I feel like I got my moneys worth alone for this.

It’s definitely much different than any other visual novel I’ve played, various themes and concepts are discussed in an interesting way. Some things I felt personally connected to and that’s not something I’ve experienced much in a video game at all, let alone a visual novel.

The Window Box by Sundew Studios is a dark comedic visual novel about five college friends catching up. This point-and-click game allows you to find out more about the girls’ back story while solving puzzles and discovering the dark truth about Elsa’s new life. Is any of these strange twists real or is the stress of relationships, work, and the prospects of having a baby driving these women insane?

Being a visual novel, the first thing I usually notice is the art style and music. Since games like this have very limited gameplay, those two things are very important. With that being said, I really enjoyed the music in The Window Box. I felt that it fit the tone of the game very well but wasn’t too distracting. I did also enjoy the art style. The characters reminded me of fashion designs and sketches. They were all unique and had their own personality, just based on their designs alone. The backgrounds and objects in the game were really pretty as well. The tone of the whole art style really fit the dark whimsy aesthetic they were going for.

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc

This game sparked my love of Danganronpa and it is without a doubt one of my favorite games. I guess I could go so far as to say it -is- my favorite game. I’ve put 152 hours into the game, I’ve completed all the achievements. I’ve been through every game in the game universe. There is Danganronpa 2, Danganronpa Another Episode, Danganronpa V3 and then the anime. I’ve collected different things from this game. I can’t recommend it more. It’s hard to define but

This is a murder mystery game. It’s deep, chilling and brutal at times. You have to collect evidence and then present it at the class trial, convicting one of your classmates and the trial is rife with things you need to do in order to succeed. You have a trust meter. If it runs out, your classmates no longer believe anything you have to say. I highly…HIGHLY encourage you try it. This one game I bought on a whim, captured my heart. So yeah, of course I’m going to give it a massively positive review!

Just watch a let’s play it’s a better use of your time and free! The game is bad the storytelling is atrocious. However, the sound design, and art are good. Don’t waste your few dollars on this unless you’re really into startlingly sweet main menu jump scares because that’s the only thing here that will thrill you.

After School Murder Club!!

After School Murder Club!!

it may look a bit different but let me tell you: this was the most exciting and fun visual novel game I’ve played in a while and it’s 100% worth trying!

and yes, with 9 hours I’ve only got one ending so far (still gotta get the other one’s!) so.. if you take your time with reading the dialogues, you get a lot for a free (!!) game.

ps. Pain(t)-kun still haunts me in my dreams (and I ain’t complaining)

I wasn’t sure about this title at first, but I ended up enjoying it in the end.

Apparently this started out as a practice/joke visual novel, and it definitely shows, but it knows what it is: a satirical jab at anime tropes with an overall silly plotline. There are references to popculture and memes throughout. Heck, one of the first things the main character says is “Gotta go fast!”

The artstyle isn’t really anything to write home about. The characters seem to have been made with some kind of anime dress up doll programs, which causes a bit of whiplash when the actually drawn scenes show up thanks to how different they look.

Chibi Wars Kinetic Novel

Another set of graphic novels. Not sure where they would be in the “timeline”, but still in Edo, this time with… elements of horror films. Zombies, vampires, and a demoness. Decent enough.
