Suicide For Him

Suicide For Him

It is a dream come true to see this game take shape like this, and I am very excited to see it grow!

Although it is an indie game with a small team, it has so much to offer such as:

  • A beautiful and original soundtrack

  • Brilliant voice acting that brings the characters to life

  • Entertaining extras that add more variety to gameplay

  • An anime/manga, stylish art-style that is appealing to look at, especially for fans of the genre

  • Customisation of the main character which will expand further

  • An engaging story with the first act being a great introduction to the game’s character and universe

I want to know what the connection between this game and the simulator is? Because the style is kind of similar.

ABYSS OF THE SACRIFICE

ABYSS OF THE SACRIFICE

I bought this because I loved the Nonary games (999, Virtue’s Last Reward and Zero Time Dilemma) and the Danganronpa trilogy, and was looking for something similar - a crazy and violent anime visual novel interrupted by puzzle / escape room like sequences.

This game indeed does scratch that itch, and I really don’t consider it to be bad at all…. But Steam only allows for a thumbs up or down, and my thumb goes down because it’s just nowhere near as good as the aforementioned games are and I couldn’t help but be disappointed. Disappointed by the story (which is not terrible, it’s just okay - 4 out of 10 in my book) and especially by the puzzles. A couple of the puzzles are well designed and really enjoyable too solve, but many are tedious (you know these kind of puzzles where you’ve figured out the solution conceptually, but need forever to figure out how exactly the game expects you to put this solution into practice? You’ll find plenty of those in here…). A handful of puzzles are also illogical and make almost no sense to me, even after looking up the solution, and worse: two puzzles are solvable but outrageously difficult and thus just feel completely out of place - they are in a completely different league than all other puzzles in the game and will take forever to solve for the average casual gamer (and looking up solutions online isn’t easy, this game isn’t very popular apparently, and I could only find a walkthrough in chinese that’s not easy too understand in the google-translated English version, and Videos on YT).

All Ashes and Illusions

All Ashes and Illusions

“Women are snakes and liars, all of them: the more beautiful, the more conniving. Don’t let your guard down, or they will ruin you.”

Yuel was only six years old when he witnessed his mother being put to death, for the heinous crime of daring to have an affair. For other women, such a folly mightn’t have been so lethal, but for Yuel’s ill-fated mother – the wife and queen of Indra’s tyrannical king, Khalil – it spelt her doom.

As he witnesses his mother’s corpse decomposing beneath the intense sunlight, Yuel’s father offers him some sage words of wisdom: namely, not to trust women. They are, in Khalil’s words, wicked and deceitful, and becoming too attached can end in nothing save disaster.

Outwardly, Yuel must swallow his sorrow, for fear of earning his father’s ire. Kings are not, after all, supposed to cry; even future kings such as him. In private, however, Yuel turns to his nursemaid, the kindly Safiya, for succour. Safiya is Yuel’s only ally in the palace: his father cold and distant; the servants deferential, brow-beaten, and kept silent through fear. Without Safiya, Yuel would be all alone…

Yet she, too, abandons him, when Yuel grows old enough to no longer need a nursemaid to tend to him.

Bereft and embittered, Yuel has nothing to look forward to, until – after a prolonged illness – his father eventually dies, and Yuel inherits the throne and the crown in his stead.

No longer a young boy – Safiya’s ‘little prince’ – but a grown man, Yuel plots to win Safiya over once more. Unable to forget about her, and unable to trust any other woman, Yuel cannot conceive of a life without her. She did promise to stay with him, after all - and, single-minded to a fault, Yuel is determined to see this promise fulfilled at any cost.

  • About 90,000 words of text (approx 4-6 hours of reading)

  • A kinetic story with no choices/branches

  • Detailed background and character art

  • A custom soundtrack

  • A highly dysfunctional relationship

  • Free patch that adds uncensored r18 content

  • Complete and utter agony ❤︎

Higurashi When They Cry Hou - Ch.1 Onikakushi

Higurashi When They Cry Hou - Ch.1 Onikakushi

First, a brief note to the uninitiated:

This is not a pleasant story, whatever the screenshots may have led you to believe. Beneath the veneer of a cheesy, run-of-the-mill school-comedy lies a cruel world of madness, terror, and violence. Major characters die routinely; sometimes on-screen, sometimes off, but never in a peaceful manner. Nonetheless, it is a highly compelling experience, and very rewarding if you can endure to the end of the series. If this intrigues you, feel free to read on, but those looking for nothing more than a stereotypical anime-harem-style rom-com would do well to look elsewhere. Higurashi may resemble that on a superficial level, but this is a series that delights in letting the reader think they know what is going on, even as it brings the façade crumbling down around them.

TLDR: The thumb is pointing up. That means good.

Important Information to Know

This game covers the first arc (Abducted by Demons arc, about 2 manga volumes long) of the story, while it says Ch.1 this game covers the first 4-5 episodes of the show and has something like 12 chapters in the game. This game is a visual novel with about 15 hours of reading. A visual novel is basically a book with relevant background music, sound effects, background art, and character art to enhance the reading experience.

Decided to give this a try because the screenshots were intriguing and the store page had some cute motivational phrases.

Most of your deaths will be from falling off. You know how unresponsive RPG Maker movement is? Imagine that in a precision-movement game. Doesn’t work. The gameplay is your generic dodge the instant death as you memorize the movements of different hazards.

Sorry to say the dev seems really proud of this, and the store page is cute, but the game isn’t any good. The writing once you’re in the game is bleh.

Doki Doki Literature Club is one of the most twisted, shocking, and horrifying Visual Novel I’ve ever played. This game is amazing and the creator is such a passionate person. Doki Doki Literature Club will take you on an unforgettable ride, with lots of wild emotions. You will be feeling chills and goosebumps when playing through this and by the end you will almost be left feeling empty. Like you wish this game to never end, but still felt it ended nicely (If you get the true ending).

This game pushes boundaries of psychological element into the Visual Novel Genre and did it perfectly. It will keep shocking and horrifying you through your read. This game is a perfect example of not to judge a book by its cover. If you’ve been reading a lot of Visual Novel and feel a bit tired of the usual stuff, instead want to experience something new and unique! This game has it!

Higurashi When They Cry Hou - Ch.2 Watanagashi

Watanagashi was a complete and utter mind f**k. There were many moments where I was absolutely stunned and could do nothing but sit in disbelief with my mouth agape.

Higurashi when they cry - Watanagashi Is the second chapter in the Higurashi series. The basic premise is that: protagonist Keiichi Maebara recently moved to a small village named Hinamizawa in the countryside. The story starts about a month after he moved to the village and he had just gotten settled in.

Since this is the 2nd chapter, less time is spent introducing the reader to the world and characters.

You’re in a small village, Hinamizawa where an event takes place every year during June; and each event will always have a mysterious death, with someone going missing along with it. No one knows why this is…but it only happens each year after the event. Will you be able to find out who or what lead these tragic events?

Graphics: 7/10

The graphics are practically the same as the first novel, they have added nothing new here but that’s not to say that it looks any worse. It just looks exactly the same as the first novel. Although, there were a few different locations that were seen in this novel, but apart from that; the way the characters were drawn are the same.

And you were happy too, for you did not know what happened outside the well. - Frederica Bernkastel**

Just… whoa… Every time, I swear that this won’t either surprise or annoy me, it ends up being a new creep-bomb… Ehm, sorry. This is the third game in Higurashi When They Cry series: Ch.3 Tatarigoroshi. Invoking what I gathered from the publishing information in Manga Gamers forums priorly, the original series consist of 8 chapters, which will probably keep inventing new and refreshing ways to both consternate and creep us out continuously, both with the imaginatively disturbing and the eerily mysterious that serves as the main body of these Hinamizawa stories.

Higurashi, with this release, has possibly become my favorite series of all time. Every release adds something, has a different flavor, and never gets boring. This one leaves even less room for setup than before, knowing that, because you played the other two chapters, it doesn’t need to waste its time with introductions. By chapter 3, the plot is already in motion, and things are starting to get incredbily sad…and creepy.

Let me warn you: This episode is depressing. If you can’t take representations of child abuse well, then I would suggest you stay away from this. It isn’t the most detailed description/situation out there, but it’s enough that it gets the point across and is extremely depressing (and disturbing). So, with that out of the way, let’s get into the basic plot of this chapter!

Seven Wonders of St. Clementine

I waited a while for this game. it looked super interesting and spooky but around 4 hours in and the game is overly slow not to mention the MANY spelling and grammar errors sprinkled around the somewhat cringe worthy dialog. The art and gore was amazing though along with the concept of the story it’s self though in a whole? this Visual novel has potential but was executed poorly.

The quick time events are honestly terrible, unlike VN’s such as The Letter where the QTE’s are simple tasks while a scene unfolds. This is just button mashing half the time to a static image, and other half the time they are puzzles which you’d think would be enjoyable. Except they are just memory tests, nothing interesting.

Then there are the list of typo’s and errors.

Heck i’d fix it for them they are so obvious.

The Sekimeiya: Spun Glass

Sekimeiya is one of the most impressive and ambitious stories i’ve ever read. Blows almost all other mystery VN competition out of the water. Hell it just blows most other mysteries out of the water. The story is very dense, complex, and detailed but still watertight and engaging. While the core of the VN is about actively trying to solve the mysteries don’t let that scare you because it doesn’t lack in other departments.

The pacing and presentation are tight and makes for a story that i found very hard to put down even at the cost of sleep. Its thriller elements are stellar with all sorts of twists, conflict, and some great presentation to keep you engaged regardless of how deep you go into mystery solving. Despite being less character and drama focused (not that it has none) it still has a nice cast of capable, non tropey, and enjoyable characters who facilitate the mystery nicely.

No Visual novel has ever made me spend so much time NOT reading the Visual novel, but instead made me think, take notes, craft theories and construct timelines.

According to the in-game playtime recorder, I’ve spent 17 hours in the notes section and 8 hours reading the log. But that doesn’t take into account the time where I’ve just been theory crafting while staring at the screen or when I’ve audibly gasped “No fucking way dude” and I have left my computer with my hands in the air because of what just occurred.
