Quantum Protocol

Quantum Protocol

PROS

  • Game is incredibly cheap for the sheer amount of entertainment it offers.

  • The gameplay is completely unique and will feel both fresh and familiar if you’ve played YGO or other TCGs.

  • Everything from visuals to music to UI hit a very good standard that lets it blend in the background as you play.

  • The game still receives frequent update with a developer very receptive to feedback.

CONS

  • Learning an entirely new set of skills can feel a little arduous at the start.

  • The ‘fail until you succeed’ logic surrounding the game can make things feel a tad hopeless.

Full Disclosure: I received a copy of the game to playtest during development. You can even fine me in the credits as “SaruRoku”!

Quantum Protocol is first and foremost, a Cardgame, with a story that’s presented in a visual novel style.

The visual novel elements do string along a fun, but mostly lighthearted story, without any of the “choices” that would make a visual novel game, but they do provide levity and a change of pace after most stages, as well as giving you some insight to the various characters who’s decks each follow their own themes.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links

I have put a lot of thought to what I would give this game. From about 2500+ hours worth of play I will say that I WOULD RECOMMEND AND NOT RECOMMEND this game to others. I wish there was a neutral choice when it comes to reviews.

WHY I RECOMMEND

The overall game has the different faces of NOSTALGIA; the anime, the TCG and the OCG before newer summoning conditions and cards were introduced. The format is a bit different but its EASY to catch on. Reliving the past life of Yugioh! gave me vibes and had my attention. There are even WEBSITES and DISCORD CHANNELS that are available for ADVICE and STRUCTURE build decks to go for KOG (King of Games). Duel Links not only provides PvP around the world, but the game launches weekly (or 2 week) PvE events that are helpful to receive new cards or obtain in-game currency. Gold, Jewels, Skill Chips, Keys. Those items can be used in exchange of new cards or skills from the card trader( when you level up at a certain level), which is very useful for newer duelists. I really do like the addition of skill chips because it would take awhile for me to obtain every skill form every duelist. Though it is still slow, it still helps out. The one thing I believe we care about most are the GEMS! Whenever its winning a duel from PvP, a new box is released, an apology notice, PvE events or any special occasion days we are happy to receive gems. These gems are used for purchasing packs(packs of 3 cards, excluding selection boxes) from set boxes.I believe this year Konami decided to decrease the gem value given to duelists, that way everyone would have to play much more than before, but also for something else (Will get back to). Basically, WE ARE GETTING SOMETHING NEW each week or any other day whenever we initiate Links. Konami may not give out the exact things we want, but AT LEAST THEY ARE ACTIVE and provide new or some content. If I were to persuade or meet any friends to play Yugioh Duel Links, that be wonderful! For newer duelists that like Yugioh! and is curious about Duel Links, I say give it a try and DECIDE if this is your type of game.

I’ve played over 4000 duels on the mobile version as I’m writing this, and I’m sure I have at least a few hundred hours invested into this game. I enjoy playing this game a lot, and I’ll explain why this game is worth my time here.

For a lot of Yu-Gi-Oh veterans like myself, the newer, flashier, modern TCG is too fast and lacks strategic depth. Synchro summoning may be passable for some, but XYZ, Pendulum, and now Link summoning is… weird. We miss Tribute and Ritual summoning, and we enjoy the slower format of the game.

Koi-Koi Japan [Hanafuda playing cards]

Koi-Koi Japan [Hanafuda playing cards]

I just plain love it!

Hanafuda is a tough game to describe. When people ask me about it I usually just say “It’s a lot like Go Fish, but with a deck of Japanese flower cards”. This is only partially true, the game is a bit deeper than that, but at it’s core the game mixes chance and strategy into a really fun, really unique match game. The cards, the rules and the scoring can appear daunting at first, but once I got the hang of it (I have some experience with this game elsewhere) it is a really great and unique card game.

I can’t recommend this game at full price. If you have friends to play with, it might be worth buying in a sale.

Koi-koi is a Japanese card-matching game using Hanafuda cards. It requires the players to match same-suit pairs of cards from twelve suits of four cards to produce sets (‘yaku’).

This implementation of koi-koi is very basic. The single-player AI is predictable, and not particularly hard to win against. The single-player mode doesn’t have a lot of replayability value, as it’s just the same game over and over. The single-player DLC requires the player to make certain yaku to progress. Some of these are very rare. While the pictures that you get as a reward are nice, it’s immensely frustrating to be unable to progress until you get an ideal hand.

Mega Solitaire Collection

This game is garbage. There isn’t an option to shuffle the remaining cards, so 90% of the games you play, you have to start over because there aren’t any more moves you can make. On top of that, the “hint"s are utter shit that tell you to make nonsense, useless moves. This game is a waste of time lol.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist

Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist

TLDR:

Objectively speaking, if you want to play Yugioh in 2020 (or beyond) don’t buy this game since it is the now “outdated” version. You probably want the version called Yugioh Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution . That version is updated to the latest Master Rule 5 where you can Link Summon and also you are no longer limited to summoning from the extra deck to only the monster zones that are pointed to by Link Monsters.

Here I am again, for one more review!

A past few weeks ago some people did asked me to post my review about this

game that it is one of my favorites (not to say the most) since I have been

playing it (the TCG format) profissionaly back to 2008-2009 and 2011-2015.

Yu-gi-oh, as far as I remember have always been an inspiration in my life:

teamwork, friendship, hope, courage, determination, respect, honor… some

of the aspects I’ve learned from this franchise since 1998 that influenced

me to pursue my dreams and realize what I most want. I even decided,

100% Orange Juice

100% Orange Juice

I’m revamping this review, as my last one which I had made months ago was meant as a in-joke, which probably isn’t the ideal approach. So, where do I begin?

100% Orange Juice is a board game featuring characters across multiple games from the Japanese indie group daidai (who are better known as OrangeJuice among the populace). The game premise is to move around the board obtaining stars and/or wins from successful battles, which allow you to increase your Norma level, which in turn allows access to cards. Cards play a vast role in 100% Orange Juice by changing the scenarios in and outside of battle. Some common examples are having access to two dice for movement, healing yourself after a battle, and setting traps which can slow down other players. Due to the versatility of cards, you will find yourself always trying out different deck creations.

Real player with 3605.2 hrs in game

After many hours of play, I think it’s time I finally put in a review as a means of advice to potential buyers.

100% Orange Juice is good/challenging game that will give you many triumphs and tragedies. Many negative reviews you may read might say things like “games are very long and require almost no skill” or “you just throw dice”. I disagree with these sentiments entirely. If you intend to buy OJ, you need to understand it’s a very specific kind of game. This is a dice board game, where RNG and skill take center stage. If you intend to buy this game and assume you can master it and win every game, and have a perfect W/L ratio, prepare to be disappointed. It is impossible to master OJ and sometimes the game can be extremely upsetting. So why do people like me keep coming back?

Card of spirits(卡靈)

Card of spirits(卡靈)

“Card of spirits” is a really novel and interesting game. It overturns the traditional rules of card games, but adding new elements I have never seen. The winning condition is decided by the common cards' values. Compared with other card games which all have the similiar minions and spells, this game has a simple and fresh rules, but not losing strategies. The art in this game also shows a different view to players. In collection part, “Card of spirits” did really give me a big surprise. With new models adding, I think this game can be popular.!!!

I’ve played some more of it & decided to change my opinion to negative - the points I was previously referring to as “a little irritating” now seem to really get on my nerves & bad for such a small project.

It’s a very small colorful card game (against AI) with unknown rules (rather simple so you can figure them out soon while playing). It runs in a borderless static window 800x600, so what you see there on Steam screenshots is just someone’s desktop wallpaper behind the game window in the center. It’s being controlled from keyboard with just 3 buttons: left, right, enter. The program looks, works & sounds nicely - fonts, ornaments, sounds etc.

Lamia’s Game Room

Lamia’s Game Room

Additional Tags: Delete Local Content&Remove from Library

TLDR: Mobileport maiden’s card game. Get stuck last with death card and lose. Make pairs to discard. Always boils down to waiting until last pick to use emotes to throw AI off. 2 hours playtime to beat.

This game lacks immersion, the music cycles a lot. The VN style portrait and emoting is rather limited. The player can adjust his pattern of behavior anytime and the AI has an unlimited amount of emotes which sorts of evens out.

Real player with 10.8 hrs in game

A short, nice Taiwanese indie game

Lamia’s Game Room is a quirky take of the classic old maid card game with a dark, gothic atmosphere reminiscent of the Danganronpa series. In this death game, you are given 2 souls, which will decrease as you lose a game by being stuck with the maid card- in this case, the “Lamia” card. The match will end when 2 other opponents lose all of their souls.

Although the game presents a simple and intriguing premise in the beginning, it falls short as there is actually not much covered as the game progresses. There should be at least more interactions with other characters to make them more interesting. Plot issues aside, the major design flaw of this game is its heavy dependence on luck. Sure, the first few levels are actually fun as it lets you try to outsmart your opponents, but the last two levels lets the AI to cheat, rendering the bluffing options useless. Heck, I was even lucky to beat the last two levels with only 3 losses each. There are several issues that need to be taken care of, don’t let that hinder you to play and support this $1 game. The game itself is actually fun when played on short sessions.
