A Little Lily Princess

A Little Lily Princess

I absolutely loved this romance sim. It was very delightful and interesting.

There are 4 romance routes, and 2 friendship routes. It involves stat raising, but it is not tedious or annoying.

It takes place during the Victorian era in London, England. That is a vague time frame considering Queen Victoria ruled for 63 years. However, since the book this visual novel is based on was published in 1905, I would assume the story took place late in her reign before she died in 1901.

The young protagonist arrives at a boarding school for girls after living in India her whole life; do remember that The British Empire ruled over India for a long time. She is a tad out of place in her school for having grown up in India, and for also being half-French; The English and French are long-time rivals, after all. Although, elitist English aristocrats would have prejudice against anyone who wasn’t completely English anyway.

This was a rather unique experience for me. I’ve played visual novels before, and I had a cursory knowledge of the source material going in.

In short, this is a visual novel retelling of the story “A Little Princess.” It takes a few liberties with the source material such as Miss Minchin’s sister being completely absent, and they created one character wholecloth.

Being a visual novel, there’s really not much that you can expect from the game. The interface is clean, the mechanics are explained well enough, though the RNG element can make it frustrating if you’re shooting for a specific ending. Jessie’s route, for example, requires a high number of high count skills, while characters like Mariette and Becky tend to have lower costs. It also completely goes out the window in the second have of the game, where you can completely cheese the system.

A quite weird visual novel, actually.. in some senses.

First point - there is no interaction, there are no choices until the end of the game, which is fortunately quite long for its genre, even if you have constantly the feeling of being unable to have an impact on the game itself.

Towards the end, you are asked to save some times (only twice actually but anyways XD) and you can make your first and only choices.. but nothing really breathtaking, although they’re of course fundamental for the (few) endings.

This game is pretty short, but the storyline drew my attention. Discouraged Workers is a visual novel game that includes a depressed 28 year old woman struggling to find a job (discouraged). There’s three routes in this game I believe, however there’s a lack of interactivity till the end of the storylines.

Impressive game, I enjoy it a lot. Felt a rush in my heart while I was playing it, Remind me a lot of Castlevania:SOTN. By far a true gem, I will hope for the sequel to buy it ASAP.

Warning: If you’re photosensitive, stay away. There are a number of flashing cutscenes and transition effects that cannot be turned off or disabled. At the end is a series of flashes that are painful to watch even without being photosensitive.

Another very solid Metroidvania-lite from Team Ladybug, who made the wonderful Touhou Luna Nights a few years ago. Like their previous game, this is a “lite” form of the genre, where you have the game broken up into stages (while still being interconnected) and it is much more linear than some of the other examples of the genre. Each stage after the first contains one major progression ability, two bosses, and a scattering of other upgrades, spells, and weapons lying around.

I will play just about any RPG game just for stuff to do.. and in doing so I have come across my share of crappy games but this …. this is a steaming pile of hot garbage (Still paints to nice of a picture but hopefully you get it). I am speaking about referring to the English translated version. It’s so bad that if someone told me a 5 year old did it I could believe it. I have read machine translated web novels that were easier to understand than this mess (not many but it’s happened). Fair warning to all I did not not make it more than an hour and a half to 2 hours in so I do not know if they made changes but considering an attempt at RFL2 started out with the same issues… I highly doubt it. So, unless you’re buying in the original language you have been warned.. (This game was bad enough that it is literally the first game I ever requested a refund for on Steam)

Glisten to your heart is a gentle, relaxing game with some great advice. It has a great sense of humor (especially if you like breaking the fourth wall!) Altogether, it took me 4.5 hours to complete. This game is worth far more than its current price tag. Hoping to see more from this dev!
