Hunting Unlimited 2010
The ‘realistic hunting simulator’ genre leaves a lot to be desired. I’ve played dozens of games like this one, and it stands out in a few ways. I do enjoy playing it, but I’ve got so many hang-ups that I can’t really reccomend it wholeheartedly. For $10, you get what you pay for, and not much else.
The first is that it runs great if your computer has the graphics capabilities of a fully baked potato, mostly because it looks ugly as sin. To put this into perspective, one of my favorite games of all time, Deer Hunter: The 2005 Season by Atari, was released in 2004. That game had great graphics for its time and it ran beautifully on my laptop that was more or less a folded piece of paper with a keyboard scribbled on it. This game doesn’t look half as good despite being made five years later. Textures are oddly stretched on some maps, there’s not much in the way of atmospheric effects, everything is pretty low-poly… if you’re a visual gamer like I am, this game doesn’t have much to offer.

Look, on the last Colorado stage, grassy ver., It’s impossible to get past that stage. Once I kill an animal, I go over to pick up the skin, and for some reason, it won’t let me. Please fix this. The game is not too shabby for $10, but there are some obvious flaws that need to be fixed.

only thing i can fault this game on is a weird bug where you cant skin animals anymore than 3 times a level even if level requirement is greater than 3. otherwise really nice.

Florida Simulator 1986
Its got gators, shotguns, drugs, and is the most accurate portrayal of a 1980s Florida Man to have ever been captured by videogame experts. Best two bucks I ever spent, although there are still a few bugs that pop up now and again– but what did you really want out of this? Absolute clarity, beauty, and neutrality?
Think again, boys and girls.
If you can’t handle the shotguns, the grenades, the hardcore story-telling, and the stealth of a beer-bellied, swamp-bred man on his way to victory, then this is not the game for you.

I started the game out thinking how cool it was that FINALLY a developer used custom assets he actually imported into the GameGuru software. I give him a ton of praise for the effort that he put into this, but this game is a shining example of why you don’t use GameGuru to make a serious game with. GameGuru is absolute trash. Yes, I get that it’s a tool just like any game engine, but GameGuru is like trying to use a cheap plastic toy wrench to work on your car engine. It’s NOT going to work for any real game.

Classic Sierra Adventure Games;
So, that intro from the beginning makes me sigh from the inside. These games (for me) are memories of growing up and sitting on my father’s knee and learning about computers…(the next step involved constructing my own PC from scratch, but that’s a different story for a different time)
Sierra INVENTED the adventure genre as far as I’m concerned, and “Gold Rush” is not only an excellent example of a classic adventure game, it is also the benchmark for self-involved concepts as well as being true to life history.

This game can be super annoying if you don’t know what to expect. Part of it is the primitive mechanics. It’s not like today’s point and click game where you click on a location and the character will move there. You have to use your arrow keys to direct every step of the movement. You also have to instruct the character what to do. Encountering another character will not automatically trigger conversation. You have to tell your character to ‘talk’ by typing this in. If you don’t type in the correct series of words, this will also halt your progress. And last but not least, there is potential to fall into a big hole in this game. Let’s say you did not pick up a certain something on level one, well if you don’t have it at level 10, you can forget finishing this game … Still, there is a lot of charm to this game with its graphics and story plot. I recommend it on sale. I would also like to play the updated anniversary edition.

Far Cry® 5
Gave up FPSs years ago. Had no interest in head sets, COD, and perhaps I’m getting a little old. Played every Doom 1, 2, Final, Ultimate, 64, 3. Quakes through 4, Unreal 1-2 plus Tournament 99. All Half Lifes. COD 1-2. FC 1 and 3 (2 is the only game I’ve ever played that gives me motion sickness). All Painkillers, all Sams. With the exception of Doom 3, I loved all of these above games. There’s a few more in the past like MoH, Sin, Daikatana, etc. but you get the point. If you’re reading this you’ve played them all too. Now all I play are RPGs, roguelikes and the occasional met-vania that actually lives up to the “genre.”

NOT WORTH BUYING
This game is simply terrible. Bad controls, bad graphics, terrible sound, terrible voice acting, a gameplay that give you the creeps and not even an intro to begin the story. You began with throw in a city and absolute not clue what you have to do. With senseless running around you found out that the character wants to leave the city, or I guess so. The problem: You live there and seems to be an absolute moron, you don’t know anything what makes sense (like the location of your own house). Because the game simple throw you on the street to start you don’t even know how this house maybe would look like, and this are only the first few moments of the game, the game gets worst and worst as more as you run around. Whatever don’t waste your money and time on this crap!

While I think the price is a little high for what it is, I forked it over for nostalgia’s sake. It is a quick game if you’ve played the original and have a vague recollection of the puzzle solutions, though I suppose the game play is extended if you opt to replay the game taking the 3 different routes to head to California. The graphics are very nice, though I did have to lower the resolution as the screen would flicker. It took a little while to get used to the point and click interface– if you hold down the mouse button even a moment too long your character will “look” instead of “walk”. In a few areas pointer placement is VERY particular when trying to change screens. What I loved, though, was that a double click automatically skipped you to the next screen. If you are a fan of the old sierra games or adventure gaming in general, you will enjoy this. If you are teetering between the original and the anniversary, definitely spring for the anniversary. The graphics really did improve the game.
