So I am re-reviewing this after it has been updated. The game has immensely improved with the changes. I was actually able to complete the whole game. The clown improvement has actually made the first part a lot more scary since he can pretty much pop up anywhere. For the second part I would say the statue would be more threatening if she moved faster but she did jump scare me a few times when I would turn around not expect her to be that close to me. Also the highlighted items allowed me to find how to proceed past that section. The last section was creepy for the first few minutes but grew a bit old pretty quick. Overall I think the game was fun in this new state and worth a play through plus the developer was willing to listen to the feedback and improve the game which is a big plus. I still think $10 is a bit on the high end of a price for this though but if you want to spend that much or if it’s on sale then go for it. If you want to see my first play through before the update you can check out my video below.

Electioneering

So I found this game in my qeue (a bit by surprise). And since I really like political-sim and strategy games, I decided to give it a try. Yes, it is really early access but under it’s surface is a good strategy game. You have to constantly run polls and ads, so you win over a state on several topics. But at the same time keep an eye on your money. First few turns took a bit of figuring out what to do, but after that I found the perfect strategy. Won my first game fairly easy with 430 - 108 electoral votes. I do hope they add more elements so there’s more gameplay.

Good game in development. A bit pricy for the state it is currently in now, but I trust that as updates come out and it leaves Early Access, the game will be higher quality. Definitley a good game if you’re into political stragety.

2.5/10

From time to time, I like to take a chance on a super-cheap indie title that I find on Steam. I generally like top-down shooters and spooky games, so Zombies in the Dark fit the bill. Although I saw a few negative reviews, these were from when the game was in early access. I had hoped that the most prominent issues were fixed by the time the 1.0 release rolled around.

Unfortunately, I was incorrect. There are a lot of issues here that make Zombies in the Dark unpleasant to play:

I bought this game when it was on sale, It was interesting to play and it does remind me of the old resident evil games with the fixed point of view. I know its in early access, I’m hoping for more to be added.

The controls are very sensitive and it makes it a little hard to play. Its best to use the keyboard and mouse instead of the controller. I got further with the PC controls than I did with the console controls.

I like the old style of the game, so I’m not complaining.

Crowalt: Traces of the Lost Colony - Prologue

Beautiful, creative game. I had fun playing, I’ve been following the team for a while, I’m sure the game will improve.

Sounds are really professional, I would even buy some of them to listen all day long.

In my hands our main character would definitely get pneumonia.

Also we won’t get along with the eagle in the main menu of the game, when I try to pet his head, he is turning his head :( … maybe he is trying to tell me something… maybe we will see that in the next episode… I’m very excited.

Interesting enough, it has the potential to be a solid point-and-click adventure game if the story’s done proper. There are a few issues though, mainly the grammar. There are a good number of grammatical errors. Misspellings, (not mentioning the pirates), odd spacing between letters, even a line of dialogue where an S is on the wrong word where it was meant to be at the end of the previous word.

I’m not trying to sound like a grammar freak, it’s just since text is the main way the game communicates with the player, it’s gotta be solid for it to stick. It honestly feels like they ran the text through Google Translate, or maybe a less experienced translator working on the English text?

Möbius Front ‘83

Möbius Front ‘83

I think this is my first Steam review; I watched a talk from Zach and he said that he takes feedback seriously so I figured, why not?

I love Zachtronics’ coding games, and I also love turn-based wargames, so I was pretty excited for this one. Unfortunately I think they’ve missed the mark this time. There’s a lot to like, but while it has the pleasing simplicity of games like Into the Breach (single-digit numbers for health, damage, range, and speed, grid map, etc.) it lacking some of the elegance.

Möbius Front 83 is a simple and good game. Yet to finish it, but played enough of it to say what I think.

PROS:

  • Great presentation, graphics is aesthetically pleasing, great animations of units – I love how dust animation is used to indicate direction of movement of vehicles.

  • Outstanding sound design. Muffled sound of weapon fire and explosion sound like you hear weapons firing in the distance or if, like I imagine it would be to hear sound of weapons firing while you sit in an armoured vehicle.

SGS Halls of Montezuma

Great game! I like how the main focus is on the battles and yet the cards and other aspects of the game add the historical background and events of that time period. The game has been well supported and updated too.

In 5 hours of playtime, I have found the game so far to be fun, easy to learn and play and at the same time seriously historical, detailed and challenging. Excellent, colorful graphics, an awesome soundtrack and manual, and a wonderful video tutorial are just icing on the cake. I’m a serious wargamer from way back and would recommend this title without hesitation.

The Legend of Bear-Truck Trucker

I spent the weekend absolutely obsessed with this game. A very simple premise, and incredibly charming in its own quiet way. There’s some real min-maxing depth available here, and lots of laughs (with the occasional heartbreak) in the physics. Highly recommended for those stretches of time where no other games seem to stick and you just don’t know what to play. You want to play this :)

Amazing puzzle from what I’ve played, my only complaint is that you get booted to the main menu after every level, there is no restart button, and that you have to press backspace over and over, instead of being able to hold it down to undo multiple moves

In the corner of your eye and the slight cracks in the earth. They hunger. Also, to survive alongside your fellow tribals, You will have to battle the stuff of nightmares. Creatures born from the minds of men and spirits that terrify the soul talked about in hushed voices around campfires by storytellers and shamans. Fort Sumter: The Secession Crisis

Fort Sumter: The Secession Crisis

A very faithful implementation of the original board game, which is a Eurogame by design with a historical ACW theme tagged on it. The game does have a decent AI and can be played solitaire as a result. Statistics on your own profile is available and so you can track your own performance vs. the AI. The only downside is the program still has a bug, freezing the solitaire game play from time to time and it seems Playdek was not aware of the issue. The multiplayer is easy to set up and game with score, measuring how you fare against others. However, there is no world ranking in the game, and different level of AI there is not. You can get notification in email when it is your turn in a game with another. A chat room is available but most of the time it is dormant. There is an alternate mapboard to give the game a variant, non-location look but I doubt people to use such a boring map. The gameplay is abstract and there is no manual inside the game or here on the Steam. You have to download it from the boardgame publisher GMT, as long as you are aware of it. This is absolutely a minor for the newcomer as the game itself is abstract and you are quite probably knowing what you are doing in the first few games. Once you get a hang out of the system, the game is smooth and quick to finish in 10 to 15 minutes. Overall, Fort Sumter is a game of tile-placement competing for control of the areas on the map. Score: 6.5/10.

I’ve been on the road a ton in the past couple of weeks and played the hell out of this. In about 60 offline games and a half-dozen online games I haven’t noted any gameplay bugs or rules/cards implementation problems as noted in another review. The recent AI bugfix improved the AI, and it’s competent enough in a mechanistic sense, but it’ still a bit weak against experienced players, especially as it relates to setting things up in terms of the long game and Final Crisis. To be fair, that’s something the many human players don’t grok until they’ve played a while (which I have as an owner of the board game).
