Imperiums: Greek Wars

Imperiums: Greek Wars

So, I have been playing this game for about near 40 hours at the time of this review.

Imperiums, focus' on the Greek Wars time era. And the developers do a very good job in portraying accurate history, in my opinion. The game keeps trying to ‘curb’ you back toward history. However; you can fight against that, and go your own way. However it requires more effort or ‘elbow grease’ to get there. Basically, to ‘go against’ history; the game feels harder! Usually. Usually when trying to go against history. I really like this aspect of the game.

As a strategy game Imperiums is one of a kind. Designed from scratched with pen and paper by a passionate developer and now released as the second entry in a hopefully long lasting series of strategy games.

Over the years the game is shaped and finetuned by the help of a small, but very dedicated playerbase who can discuss with the developer in forums on Steam and Discord.

Hundreds of players already mentioned their complains and wishes for the game and the developer keeps a list with urgent must have features and nice to have features for the future.

I’m a pretty experienced player on the board game, so I know what I’m talking about: this game follow the rules quite well, except for a few mistakes (mill that create meeples WTF?!)

the board is exactly the same as the real game, and even if I felt a bit lost cause there is no infos about your mat type except at the very beginning of the game or somewhere I never found quite easily, it would be nice to have the name of the combo ( example : rusviet patriotic ) all the time, to me this can be quite important as there is some combos that are very OP (Rusviet industrial is already banned wich follow the rules of Jamey Steigmaier, crimea patriotic should follow) but those combos should remain open if you play a non ranked game or with one of your friends )

Bought this game during steam sale.

I love the board version. Was pretty excited to test the digital version as well. Here is my review and why its pretty meh.

TLDR: good gameplay, terrible netcode/online games. Don’t bother buying the DLC (Invaders from afar) since factions are really bad and you will end playing them a lot more than people without the DLC. A bit expensive for the experience. Worth it for the $8 I paid during the sale.

1. Gameplay 7/10

Its pretty much the same as the board game. Works very well. It can be a bit troublesome at first to get a grisp on how to make a turn, read the boardstate etc but after around 30 games it feels really natural.

Rise of Hegemony

Rise of Hegemony

Rise of Hegemony is a strategy game inspired by great games such as Civilization and Victoria. Triumph over your neighbours by successfully managing your country economically, diplomatically and militarily. The path to global hegemony is up to you.

  • Subdue your enemies by pure military force.

  • Forge alliances and diplomatic pacts to be part of an unstoppable coalition.

  • Educate your people to eclipse your rivals technologically.

  • Become an economic powerhouse and make other nations dependant on your resources.

In-depth economy

Rise of Hegemony features an in-depth economical system where every province contains a discrete number of people that all need resources to survive and thrive. Lacking access to sufficient amounts of critical goods such as food will cause your population to starve. Without access to weaponry your soldiers will be woefully unprepared to face enemies in battle. Trading with other countries is important, being dependant on them is perilous.

Build up your country

Starting as a fledgling country the way you want to conduct yourself on the world stage is up to you. Acting peacefully and benevolent has its benefits, but sometimes a more warlike approach is a quicker way to achieve your goals…

Randomly generated worlds

Even with the same strategy every game can take a vastly different course when the world looks different and countries will develop distinctively depending on their starting conditions.

Moddability

Rise of Hegemony leaves a lot of room for mods to expand on the game. Do you prefer to focus on a certain time period? Perhaps a fantasy setting is more to your liking? The possibilities for alternative scenarios are plenty!

Best Election Simulator In Russia!

Best Election Simulator In Russia!

Who is your admiral general communist oligarch in the bright Russia of the future?

  • Putin? And his aquadisco, pouring Novichok on everyone in the neighborhood?

  • Or Lukashenka and a gang of security officials?

  • Navalny and his swarm of drones and protesters?

  • Or Trump on a posh aircraft carrier and his highly mobile rednecks on pickup trucks?

  • Or with unique mechanics completely out of control George Floyd and his hordes of activists?

Explore and dominate on a generated map

  • Loot and spend on strategically important buildings, or just buy a golden toilet brush for your luxury pirate yacht.

  • Each faction has its own line of development, so bring women and electoral votes to the yacht to get new opportunities, glorious pirate!

For example, a couple of votes of friendly fellow citizens and Trump is already airstrikes enemies and bombing cities.

However, it is even easier for Putin: carry two women and you have a great personal bunker.

Unique cell mechanics

At the start of the game, all cells are closed like a card back.

Open them and get unexpected turns.

  • Maybe it will be a nuclear rocket?

  • Or garages with a gop-stop?

Unit characteristics

Each unit earns experience in the course of the game, whether it is killing, women, or collecting votes.

In the future, the player distributes points for new characteristics in the improvement tree.

Some traits can be obtained by examining undiscovered cells. For example, a university has a chance to give a “Red diploma”, which gives + 0.001% to damage.

But the characteristics are not always SUCH POSITIVE! A unit that has been imprisoned has a 50% chance of receiving the “Buggered” debuff.

Find cards and strengthen the regime

Examples of cards:

  • “Legalization Of Prostitution”: 5% chance each turn that 3 random units will gain the characteristic “Prostitute” and start generating income when attacking.

  • “Nepotism”: First and permanent income from oil + 100%.

  • “Gopota Government Support”: 5% chance every turn that 2 loyal riot policemen will appear near the city.

  • “A Feast In Time Of Plague”: 5% chance each turn that 1 random unit will become a cannibal and start supplying food to the city with each kill.

Beware of the indigenous people!

So, the traffic police inspector will bankrupt the rednecks in pickup trucks, which have a movement range of two cells.

And the gopota, when attacking, has a chance to take away a weapon or object, including the NUCLEAR!

Do not forget that it is possible to subdue these crooks by priests and oligarchs. By the way, send juggernaut bears to attack with RPG and nuke!

Combine faction, regime and cards wisely

For example, Putin’s milestones such as “Bunker”, “Resetting Presidential Terms”, and “Coronation”, which provide good bonuses, go well with the “Clone Sovereign” upgrade of the Monarchy regime.

I whole-heartedly recommend this game with a few caveats.

-The game is early access and is being worked on my a single developer.

-This game will not be completed quickly. The game will not always be updated quickly (although he has been doing quite well so far. An update every couple weeks usually).

-There will be bugs (although generally not game breaking, they can be a challenge and if you do not want to deal with it, I would wait).

-While there are official servers. They are usually quite full. So, the other servers are entirely player run. They can be hit or miss. So, until there are more official servers / there are better server hosting tools / more dedicated server hosts are better equipped to handle the job, you may very well sink 2-3 weeks into a game and one day it is gone. This can be avoided by doing your research on servers before joining. Some server and their hosts are amazing such as Age of Porcos run by Shem and PigsLands run by Jey.

New changes and recent major update have slowed the already awful pace of the game and made the overall progression and experience worse, to name off a few problems. I am giving this a negative just based on the early neolithic stage of the game alone, it is that fucking bad.

-You are now locked into where you spawn, you use to be able to move your starting tribe around a bit and maybe find a better spot at the risk of losing some or all of your tribe; you could even force settle onto another primitive tribe if they had a better spawn and after you reached a certain size you would have to fight them for the land. This ruins Arid players who spawn in the desert and rely on river networks to farm crops during agriculture and ranching phase of the game. Already players are just straight up abandoning and respawning if they get a godawful spawn.

Airships: Conquer the Skies

Airships: Conquer the Skies

-All statements are relevant as of 1/31/21. No guarantees are made for future versions of Airships!-

Let me start off by saying that I am utterly and hopelessly addicted to this game.

Ever since I bought Airships (Or ACTS, as I’ll be using) back in late 2018, I fell in love with it. The game’s kept giving, the developer has remained true to his word and an amazing gentleman, and the community (Especially on the Discord) continues to grow and develop in wondrous ways. As I don’t expect you to go through my various paragraphs of gushing, I’ll put the TL;DR statement here:

Real player with 424.1 hrs in game

Pretty cool game for those who like relatively free-form building, designing units to deal damage and mitigate it for themselves. Especially if you’re into diesel- and/or steampunk.

The things you have to account for and balance out in a unit’s design are quite numerous and varied; Everything costs something and everything weighs something. A ship’s maximum altitude - which is very important -is determined by its weight vs. lift, for example. This is probably the strongest part of the game.

So in combat, you’ll be witnessing how those designs fare against the NPC (or enemy player) units; Did you actually give your ship enough coal to stay aloft through the average battle? Oh, it turns out this one has a massive structural weakness and will be cut in half by one or two rockets. Great job!

Power & Revolution 2021 Edition

Power & Revolution 2021 Edition

Do I recommend this game? Hell no.

There is no stability, there is very little realism, this game does most stuff very simplistically, the graphics are shitty, the combat system needs a MAJOR rework, essentially nothing has changed since the first iteration of this game came out.

Diplomacy needs an overhaul. Really? You have a game where debt is a huge factor but there’s no debt diplomacy? But you’ve released multiple versions and countless bug fixes and cant seem to add basic features like debt diplomacy? Thanks Eversim.

I will give you my insights of the first look while playing as Lithuania.

I like:

  • EU financial involvement in mostly everything

  • Debt tab changes

  • Vaccination priorities and contracts

  • Option for foreign exchange students

  • Option for scientific cooperation between countries on a specific discovery

  • Days of Culture to celebrate a foreign country traditions

  • 5G Internet

  • Organisations' data (population & GDP)

  • Cause of death tab

  • Map changes

I dislike:

  • No significant changes to migration system
