This game is brilliant! Many cool new things that made me spend a lot of time ingame. I usually don’t write reviews but as a tower defense fan and not finding enough reviews on this one, I had to say that it really brings some novelty on the genre (I had to re-think all my strategies learned in other TDs).

I like how the enemy is fighting with me, they struggle to bring my towers down :D, very nice animations and there is something interesting and addictive with the AI that I can’t pinpoint exactly.

Defense Grid: The Awakening

Defense Grid: The Awakening

Allow me my conceit.

DG is the best video game I have ever played, and many of you reading this could my grandkids friends.

I usually avoid pronouncements. I avoid posting comments even more, but DG is so special, so rare, I must share with you why you should buy it.

Check how many hours I have invested in this love affair. I still play every week. I invite you to check older posts from pre-2010 to see how this game enveloped not just me but a whole community being introduced to tower defense for the first time, not to mention veterans of the genre.

Tower security entertainments are a dime twelve on the Internet, which is a touch of an adornment generally as in most by a long shot of them are permitted to-play, so paying 10 pennies would be unnecessary overabundance. Still, it’s not stunning that tower shield entertainments are so celebrated; done successfully they can be an addictive time suck, draining without end the hours as you try to set up a defensive system that can withstand everything the PC hurls at it. With these free preoccupations out there, can’t avoid being there space for a premium tower security diversion? Covered Path Entertainment advances a persuading resistance with Defense Grid: The Awakening, a $20 redirection that offers a great deal of tense minutes and significantly more significance than an ordinary tower monitor diversion.

A great game for anyone who wants to spend a few hours destroying aliens

The game has lovely neat graphics and nice sound but… everything else is a bit bland and boring.

Powerups are very limited and not scale with stage.

Boss and mid-boss are die-and-try until you know the pattern until you relise you need to restart the game from scrath every time.

The main problem is that powerups are given randomly so is actually possible to have one or two stages without a single powerup.

beating a boss without any powerup is just plain tedious.

Even if you learn the patterns by heart the puny base laser is just a torture to bring down bosses.

ROM: Extraction

ROM: Extraction

ROM’s gameplay offers a pretty unique twist on the VR shooter in that you’re not using your gun to target and kill enemies so much as using it to shoot explosive orbs that you throw and detonate near them. You do this by activating a “reflex” mode that slows down time allowing you to target your orbs with precision, giving you the ability to take out several foes with a well thrown and detonated orb.

The core mechanics are very solid and well implemented, the graphics are among some of the best I’ve seen in VR (I’d put them in the same league as Raw Data), and the soundtrack fits the fast-paced gameplay perfectly.

ROM: Extraction is a really fun game once you get the hang of it! DO NOT PLAY IT ONCE AND GIVE UP!!!

I see a lot of other reviews here talking about the “amount of content”. I think those people are not understanding what kind of game this is. It’s an ARCADE style shooter. The point is to replay it over and over to try to get a better score AND to have fun with it, doing trick shots and overall just enjoying the game mechanic for what it is.

Anyone here that said they “beat” the whole game in 12 minutes are idiots. No you didn’t, you just played each level at each difficulty once and thought that’s it. The first few times I played it was hard, I was throwing orbs and slowing to shoot, but it seemed like i was surfing the line between total chaos and being in control.

Star Hammer: The Vanguard Prophecy

Star Hammer: The Vanguard Prophecy

Read danny_maland’s review (most helpful) to contrast with this. Similar points, he barely gave a thumbs down, I barely give a thumbs up.

TL;DR: Spacy. Combines elements for a story above its price. Gameplay gets more challenging and more complex as the game progresses. About 20 total ship types in game between two factions. Many bugs. No voiceovers. If they had more time or budget, this could have rivalled Homeworld.

Longer version, but I’ll try to keep points short.

Story guy did his/her job (too lazy to look up credits). People have personalities. The world has politics. Everybody has a motive for their actions. Story in a game is important to me; this one shows a world.

Yep… I really like it:

It’s turnbased and it’s really looking good. Got some kind of real Space Battle Feel. Sure there are some MINOR Issues but not game breakers or something but more in overall game design and looks.

This game has such an enourmos, unbelivable, awesome potential in it that the gap what this game actual is and what it could be nearly made me cry. I found myself daydreaming about the best 4x Space Game ever.

Take the best Ideas of Master of Orion, GalCiv, Sword of the Stars, StarDrive, etc. and mix it with THIS turnbased Combat Engine:

XCOM: Enemy Unknown

XCOM: Enemy Unknown

“VIGILO CONFIDO YOU ALIEN FU**ERS-”

-Cpt. Heavy McHeavyface, before launching a rocket at a Berserker.

! The rocket misses, killing a VIP plus the rest of his team near the evac point in the process.

TL:DR:

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is an intense game, almost nerve-wracking at times, but generally rewarding as you plan and fight your way through droves of alien invaders with a variety of classes, equipment and abilities. You might find yourself save-scumming (reloading saves for better results), but that happens to the best of us. The game will push you to take risks and deal with consequences, both in long-term strategy with base, crew and international management, and in short-term with tactical combat. While lacking in a few aspects such as a deeper plot, and leaves some optimization work to be desired, Enemy Unknown will get your tactical thinking at full throttle for a steady incursion of (sometimes brutal) enemy forces.

JUST TO CLEAR THINGS UP

This review is for XCOM ENEMY UNKNOWN (INCLUDING ALL DLC) ONLY.

XCOM Enemy Unknown has an expansion pack called XCOM Enemy Within . I’m not going to include that in the review because I’m planning to write a separate review for it. This review will only be about the BASE GAME + ALL DLC.

Also, I have not played the original XCOM games (shame on me, I know) so I won’t be making any comparisons to those.

Space Court

Space Court

This is a well written story that does a great job of not taking itself too seriously and not wearing out its welcome. That’s are in these days – where writers will often beat a little too hard on one theme. And don’t get me wrong, there are some serious topics and issues discussed in this game, but the way they are presented via aliens bringing their grievances to a space judge ends up being pretty hilarious. There’s a lot that can be explored with comedy, and this game does a great job of it. Definitely recommend. A full play through won’t take much more than an hour but I’ve been happy to try it a few times just to see what dialogue options I missed.

Well… that was a nice episode of… oh wait.

It’s a game… I almost forgot. It just feels like a 90s sitcom! And that’s awesome!

It’s a short game, you can finish it probably in less than an hour. Or you take your time, enjoy the humor, plan a re-play or two and try out different decisions.

It entertained me REALLY well! Totally worth buying it.

Would be great to see more games like this, or DLC, or an update, a sequel.

In short: I love it!

Increasing difficulty as you progress through the levels.
