Dark Cards

Dark Cards

The other games by these devs are underappreciated gems, particularly Dark Mist, but also the better known Blood Card, both of which are fantastic. In this case, however, the devs have missed the mark, badly.

It’s worth noting up front that Dark Cards at this point is essentially abandonware… which is a good thing, in my opinion. Get the message that your game isn’t working, ask Steam to withdraw the game from sale, write this game off to experience and move on with your lives. Continuous microimprovements really aren’t going to be enough to make this game any better without breaking the entire thing down and starting again from scratch.

I would not recommend the game in its current state.

The game’s idea is fun and all but at this point it feels like an unfinished product. This game requires a lot of polish to become a good game. the animations aren’t that smooth and feel a bit laggy, which can be seen in the few examples in the store page. I also encountered two bugs which broke the game and stopped it from responding to alt-F4 in my 30 mins of play time. Nevertheless I still believe in its potential so I will leave my review positive for now.

Hey Devs, great game. I found some of the levels challenging and a good use of logic. I did my first run in 14 hrs. and even enjoyed a second run to collect my missing collectible achievement. The jumping portions in some of the puzzles were quite easy once I figured out the timing sequence. A well thought out game and highly recommended. I’d like to see a sequel.

Awesome game. Addictive. Absolutely beautiful to look at. The puzzles are challenging and interesting. Its also pretty simple and straightforward but with a cool backstory. Would be fun to have a 2 player option, making the puzzles even more mind-bending. I really hope they make a sequel!

BFF or Die

BFF or Die

A nice cooperative puzzle game.

CRASHES when trying to use Remote Play Together. This is too bad. I really wanted to try it out with some help from my far-flung friends.

The initial levels of the game are different based on the number of players. If you want to teach friends how to play, I recommend playing the first 7, or so, levels in TWO PLAYER mode. The early levels of other modes might fail to teach important aspects (like how to get out of the flashlight booth).

This could be a nice title for some “Games Night” cooperative frustration, err I mean fun.

The game is like a physical puzzle game but with action elements to it. And if you play multiplayer, the extra dimension of needing to figure out what each player needs to do and when to complete the level. It can get crazy hectic and tense, especially when your teammates mess up or something unexpected happens. But it never feels unfair or too punishing. Plus you always get time to plan at the start of each level / puzzle.

My only criticism is some of the menu options don’t work with keyboard, but nothing that stops you playing the game.

Skyward Descent

Skyward Descent

A really compelling game, I started it up to see what the deal was and immediately lost half an hour to it.

The game is very easy to pick up and play, and for the most part the gameplay is easy to understand. There are a few things that are frustrating to me playing this game, though.

After defeating a boss, if you haven’t taken any damage, you get an option to shuffle around some of your stats. I’ve gotten options like “+30 HP & -30 HP” multiple times, which is incredibly frustrating because it makes one of your options useless. There is another power up called “Lucky Items” that is supposed to give you more stat boosts in the game, but I never noticed any difference when I got it.
