Epic Loon

What a crazy awesome game !!

Random thoughts :

  • Weird parody universe that made us binge-play until all was unlocked

  • Flappy tongued diplodocuses. Very tongued. Very very flappy.

  • The soundtrack is incredible !! :3 meow

  • If you finish a level first, you get a physics gun to troll the other players. That the best part !!

  • Or you can just self-explode and mess the physics for others ^^

  • Overall, it’s an addictive physics game with a steady learning curve. Quite difficult at first, and rewarding when you get better at it !

I am one of those people you would call a movie buff. I love watching movies and series, and I have a tendency to collect French movies (especially the ones from the 60’s, 70’s and 90’s). So, I was totally amazed when I was introduced to Joe, from Epic Loon. This guy has an incredible collection of VHS movies and his bedroom walls are decorated with posters with thousands of VHS tapes. A perfect setup for any movie fan! Joe shared with me an amazing story that happened to him recently. His beloved VHS player start malfunctioning, and in desperation, he ran to the hardware corner shop to see if he could find any sort of instrument that would help fix his VHS player. There, the Chinese owner told him about this miracle tape cleaner that would make his VHS player work again. What the owner specifically forgot to mention is that the VHS tape cleaner was a prison for four little aliens, and from now on he has to watch his favourite movies with these little buggers moving from one scene to the next. Welcome to Epic Loon!

Mainly writing this because I disagree with what the majority of the negative reviews are saying, as someone who cranked out 40 hours of gameplay (split quite evenly between online and offline play) and who completed games on the hardest difficulty level. While I have ideas on what _should_ contribute to a negative review, which will come later in the review, but let's start by tackling the points I disagree with in the negative reviews.

I believe RNG gets the majority of the blame because a random event occurs at the beginning of every turn, and at every new planet, so it's pretty much in your face all the time.

--- This game has the potential to be very fun. Myself and a few friends brought it and really enjoyed the game initially. But we quickly realised that this game is too hard, and not even hard in way that challenges you properly. We have been playing on mild difficulty, since the upper difficulty was seemingly impossilbe. The game is hard beyond the player's control, since much of the game mechanics are the result RNG. 90% of the RNG is bad! You receive negative effects that can see you wiped out very quickly. For example, we upgraded our shields to the max very early on, but in response, we started taking much more damage from RNG events. *– [Real player with 44.7 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198111591705)* --- ![Neon Parasite](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1246620/header.jpg "") ## Neon Parasite Great PvP game. Fun one to couch play or with people online. --- Woo eeh! That hydra mini game is hard but in the way that makes you wanna keep going until you've smashed your monitor. If you're in for a challenge the single will give it to you in spades, with a thumping techno soundtrack to get you pumped for each attempt. Versus mode is a fast and wild, reflecting a shot into your opponents face and having them try to block only to realise it's an unblockable bullet and gasp in horror as their little alien explodes into dust, is something to experience. Great game, would buy again! The grass man is just too much. it kills my Frame-rate. *– [Real player with 2.8 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198323551404)* Its not a bad game The idea is very creative, taking inspiration from bugs and the games becomes more fun trying to complete more frustrating challenges. My only complaints with the game is the bottom character of bugs have a bugged movement in the fire stasge( the last stage). The Stage where there is 2 separate lawns with a hammer or something crushing you, I have a big problem with this. The Hammer descends too fast and the fake/harmful food needs a better visual hint to show they are harmful like a black aura surrounding them. *– [Real player with 2.5 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198848919006)* --- ![Friday Night Bullet Arena](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/513840/header.jpg "") ## Friday Night Bullet Arena LOVE IT! Played with 3 good friends in a 4 player local vs game. The most fun I've had with my friends in a new game in a long time. Fast paced and quick thinking, every round ended with cheers and laughter as we found new ways to outsmart eachother. Never a dull moment with friends in this game. Endless hours of fun! *– [Real player with 22.0 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198040486775)* Fantastic local game, played with my roommates and had a lot of fun! CRASHES when trying to use Remote Play Together. This is too bad. I really wanted to try it out with some help from my far-flung friends. The initial levels of the game are different based on the number of players. If you want to teach friends how to play, I recommend playing the first 7, or so, levels in TWO PLAYER mode. The early levels of other modes might fail to teach important aspects (like how to get out of the flashlight booth). This could be a nice title for some "Games Night" cooperative frustration, err I mean fun. *– [Real player with 7.3 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197994358381)* The game is like a physical puzzle game but with action elements to it. And if you play multiplayer, the extra dimension of needing to figure out what each player needs to do and when to complete the level. It can get crazy hectic and tense, especially when your teammates mess up or something unexpected happens. But it never feels unfair or too punishing. Plus you always get time to plan at the start of each level / puzzle. My only criticism is some of the menu options don't work with keyboard, but nothing that stops you playing the game. *– [Real player with 3.5 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197963574733)* --- ![It came from space and ate our brains](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/342620/header.jpg "") ## It came from space and ate our brains ** CLICK VIDEO AT THE END FOR A GIVEAWAY OF THIS GAME ** ### Introduction It Came From Space, and Ate Our Brains is a top down shooter where you fight waves of aliens trying to eat your brains. I was skeptical with going into this game because of the blocky style graphics, but I was pleasantly surprised. It Came From Space, and Ate Our Brains has plenty of different guns/upgrades, maps, powerups, and different aliens. Along with the six maps currently there is more on the way and 4 different difficulties that are vastly different. The only real issue with It Came From Space, and Ate Our Brains is the fact of the camera gets blocked by map structures, but this issues is far and in between. Triangle Studios really has a hidden gem with It Came From Space, and Ate Our Brains, from the unique graphics style to the fun multiplayer. *– [Real player with 24.8 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198070412659)* Some games dont look like much at first, but keep you coming back for more and more without realizing why. This is one of them. With so many top down shooters and alien themed games on Steam, why is this so good? Because the aliens are pink and glow in the dark? Thats actually cool too , but here is why you should get this game: Game play / Game mechanics: the controls are very smooth , so is the scrolling / gameflow and motion in general, creating a very pleasing game experience. For top down shooters with "twin stick" controls ( move with one stick , aim freely with the other ) this is critical. Not many people realize but this is usually what decides whether the game is great or terrible in this genre. *– [Real player with 17.6 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198083301298)* --- ![Shakes on a Plane](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/964620/header.jpg "") ## Shakes on a Plane It is very challenging to play by yourself. I enjoyed having to prioritize all of the aspects of the plane. Buy this game if you're up for the challenge, otherwise, you will need some friends to play with you. *– [Real player with 10.1 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198193274078)* [Steam only allows a Yes or No, but this is really deserves a Mixed rating, as many of the issues are fixable.] As a huge fan of Overcooked and Moving Out, I found myself compelled enough to play through all 27 levels, despite some frustratingly imbalanced portions (at least in single-player) that require a precision that the controls do not easily afford. The portions of the game that leaned fully into plane management–sorting through baggage, cleaning up vomit, forcibly seating bratty passengers, bracing for turbulence--were novel. Some of the intentionally inconvenient level designs were clever to boot, particularly the one with both a conveyor belt and several color-coded teleport pads. That said, the overall package is a mixed bag, one that's ultimately held back by taking place entirely within airplanes (and a handful of UFOs). *– [Real player with 8.4 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198040901248)* --- ![Star Escape](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1233460/header.jpg "") ## Star Escape Really fun, simple competitive game. I've played alone and with a friend and I could see this being incredibly fun with 3-4 people. It's not easy but not unfair, you always know what you did wrong. The only complaint i would have is initially navigating the menu to start a game was a little confusing. *– [Real player with 1.9 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197990414113)* ---
