Behind the Horizon

Behind the Horizon

I’ve been enjoying this game a lot. It has quests, farming, animals, magic, crafting etc. You get to explore a pretty big world and meet the villagers. The scenery is very pretty and it has seasons. It is a very unique game. The developer has answered questions, taken in feedback and suggestions and fixed bugs rather quickly. I am very satisfied with my purchase and would recommend this to anyone.

This is a great game.. The developer is VERY responsive and open to new ideas. and they any fix issues quickly.

Its a farming game BUT don’t expect Stardew Valley, although it has a somewhat similar loop. IE farming, explore ect, although with a “Nature” theme..

Progression can be slow at times, but blossoms after chapter 1..

Make sure you read the help F1 as it explains your tools. Use the MAP.. to keep track of possible resources.

A good debut for a solo game developer. Lovely graphics and succesful storytelling, average but acceptable gameplay features for a interactive novel kind game. With in game info about era and fine atmosphere, I especially recommend to people who interested in Bolshevik Revolution, 1930’s collectivization process, CCCP or enjoyed novels such as “And Quiet Flows the Don " or Gladkov’s “Cement”.

Sumerians

Sumerians

If you like games like Caesar, Pharaoh and Banished you’ll be right at home!

II feel the game is a good mix between those titles, I really like how Sumerians basically gives up proximity as a rule for assigning people to jobs, which allows you to build prettier cities.

Production chains are dependent on “transporters”, once you get the hang of how they work it’s relatively easy and satisfying to set up chains and different types of economic areas and keep everything tidy and functional.

the only downsides I found are the fact the game begins slowing down quiet a bit after 1k population, however by reducing graphic settings will help, particularly the number of “agents” (NPCs) on the map, that said the game itself still runs fine up to 25k in my personal experience and I’ve seen some people saying they had no problems at 60k.

Great concept, though it still needs a ton of optimization work.

Just as an example,

I currently have a city with about 5,000 people. I also have a ton of state farms (grows grain which is the currency and food for your people). Earlier in game, when I had only about 1,000 people, one state farm could easily handle a full field on it’s own when fully staffed. But now that I’ve reached such a high population, it seems like my people have gone stupid and can’t even handle a quarter of the same field they used to be able to grow.

My Little Farmies

My Little Farmies

Overall the game is very enjoyable and can keep you very busy tending to your farm, harvesting/growing crops, upgrading buildings and producing items in the various production buildings.

Once you get to level 25-30 be warned that you will be forced to spend 200 gold bars to further expand your farm to make room for more buildings, pens ect, and i can only imagine that you will have to spend 300-400 for the next and so on, so make sure you buy as many expansions using your Thalers as you can before you get stuck at this point.

I have only played for a little while, but am enjoying this game a lot. The graphics are nicely done, and the tutorial is very helpful. As I mentioned in a comment I made in one of the negative reviews, this is not a game for impatient players. You will have to wait for things to grow and to be build. I have played quite a few F2P games, and never used real money to get quicker through the game. I only ever bought starter kits and special items that you can’t find in the game otherwise.

The one thing I don’t care for in this game is that the developers, who are German, set the dates the American way, giving first the month and then the day. Very confusing for me. In Germany - as in other European countries - the date is displayed as giving first the day and then the month.

Pax Romana: Romulus

Pax Romana: Romulus

Hello All, after playing the game for a few hours (44.5hrs) I feel I can give PAX an honest review. The game is in Early Access so content is limited but the story looks promising with many possible directions. Starting off you will struggle managing Energy & Hunger needed to perform actions. I found farming, cooking items into meals, and then selling end product enabled me to build coin to buy animals and other raw materials. Farming isn’t fast and takes time but I was able to grind through it. Early on you will want to focus on mining for Turquoise to then have turquoise crafted into rune stones. These then are used to activate the rune portals to traverse the map between the different towns. Harvest wood/stone in between your crops growing. There were some bugs with different features (crafting recipes/beehives) and the Devs responded fast to resolved them. Feedback on issues and ideas were warmly received. Many games I have played you read from other players how Devs don’t care about it’s community. Locus Ludus does at least hear you an have responded. Is PAX the greatest game you’ll ever play, maybe not. Could it use more content, yes! PAX is a game that won’t give you everything and will make you work for it. It is a struggle to start until you get a better understanding of how things work (Energy/Hunger management). Berry bushes & mushrooms found while you’re out collecting resources (wood/stone) was something i overlooked early on. Due to hunger consumption you might want to save those consumables for when you decide to go out resource collecting. Going into options and turning on “sprint always” might help speed things up as well. You don’t die if energy\hunger depletes, you just walk very slow. I found using hunger items food/potions at your homestead really isn’t needed. Yes, you will move slower but you’ll find farming & tending animals takes time which wastes\burns your hunger meter. Once your established you can then consume meals\wine you craft as you feel the need but always make sure to buy enough seeds or regents prior to the next harvest. Also, be sure to take into consideration the cost of materials versus the profit of the finished product. It’s not worth buying\growing something that gives 4 gold profit if something else that you can grow/craft gives you 14 gold profit. My basic strategy in playing is like so. Plant crops & manage animals, collect (Wood/stone), harvest crops you grow, craft items (Cook food from grown crops, craft wine & cloth, smelt ingots, collect honey), sell end product. After completing the stories quest chain sadly there is little left to do. I’m grinding out the achievements but past that I’m just waiting for more content, At it’s current state I would give PAX a 7 out of 10. PAX does have potential to grow into a really good game if the Devs stick with it.

I really like the concept of this game and I think it can grow to become great. But the risk/reward aspect is broken. More importantly, the effort/reward aspect is broken. The game has a lot of potential. There are a lot of unnecessary actions/clicks forced on the player due to the limitations of gamemaker. This game does not reward ANY of the standard gamer types - Highly impatient, Impatient, Easy going, Lazy, Lazy as Fk. These types of games will succeed only if the game rewards all the gamer types in some way. It is possible to pull off but requires a lot of thought.

Dragon Throne Battle of Red Cliffs

Dragon Throne Battle of Red Cliffs

The game follows a civil war fought in medieval China. The three campaigns allow you to assume the roles of one of three warlords, and your commanders gain experience and acquire new powers and extra health as the story goes on.

Before the carnage is unleashed, though, the familiar rigmarole of setting up an economy awaits. Chop down trees, harvest grain, mine stone, breed the horses.

You must recruit peasants to build a base of operations, then create an army to crush your enemies.

太平洋之嵐6 ~ 史上最大的激戰諾曼第攻防戰! Pacific Storm 6 - Battle for Normandy

Only Chinese (Traditional and Simplified) and Japanese support, as far as I can tell. No English, despite what the Steam page says. Too bad, I was very disappointed.

While I was playing around for the required 5 minutes to submit a review, I chose the Japanese option for language, as I can at least recognize some of the characters. The voiceover text seemed to be in Japanese, and as far as I can tell most of the interface remained in Japanese as well. However, it looks like the unit description (?) page is only Chinese text . I could be mistaken.

I recommend this game… but…

I would wait on purchasing a copy of this early access version until a significant update comes out. I purchased this game originally from the dev’s website, as it wasn’t yet available on Steam, back in 2019. I learned quickly that the computer I had at that time could not run the game very well and only played it for a few hours. It was intriguing enough for me to keep the game. Unfortunately for me, I lost the update link the dev provided when I purchased it.

I’ve never written a review before, such has this game grabbed me I felt I needed to share some thoughts.

Firstly: It’s early access, don’t expect a finished article, there are bound to be bugs. Start with an accepting and forgiving mindset and this game will eat your hours up.

Starting simply from a camp to the urgency of building homes for your campers before the winter comes, you can build a whole town, industry, and more! This game seems to operate on two levels; one being a simple design and build sandbox but the other being more a chess like social development game.

JUST A WARNING BEFOREHAND THAT THIS IS A LONG INDEPTH REVIEW ABOUT THE GAME SO IF YOU ARE LAZY TO READ IT JUST SKIP TO THE BOTTOM OF THE REVIEW.

Now before you skip this game over for some negative reviews talking about the difficulty of this game or it being set up for some overpriced expansions, just hear me out. This game has a lot of potential and while I agree it maybe kinda pricey compare to some of the older games with a very similar genre this game still have its own merit to make it stand out from the rest. Now let me list down some of the things that you should know before purchasing this game;

I complained about Kalypso on forum of another game, and they censored me!

NEVER buy a game from Kalypso! Don’t support censorship! This is serious!

=====================

Many people say it’s broken or that it’s a recess simulation. The game is just hard to learn.

It is basically an RTS, but the strategy resides in the trade system. War does exist, but it happens only a few hours after the match starts, and it’s very expensive.

War requires little strategy and no tatics. You just send your army on the enemy and let them fight, while you go back to manage your empire’s trade economy. If you want a game aimed on war, just don’t buy this, it has less of that than Civilization.
