Gatling Gears
Gatling Gears is a hidden, underappreciated gem that deserves way more attention. It’s a wonderful twin-stick shooter with amazing soundtracks and perfectly balanced gameplay. It’s also one of the few dieselpunk games which makes this game even more interesting. There is not much to tell about the story because it’s not the selling point of this game and it’s not that interesting but the gameplay where it shines best. You can play co-op, solo, upgrade your walker, unlock new skins and try your hand on survival maps.

Aperion Cyberstorm
Aperion Cyberstorm is a great fast paced shooting game that should not be overlooked. When I first started the game, I admit I was not expecting much at all, seems like a generic space game. Even though that is kind of the case, Aperion Cyberstorm is filled crazy bullet mayhem to keep to occupied for hours to come. It’s not perfect by any means. It can feel repetitive at times, but if your looking for a new game buy, you should definitely check this out!

Bombshell
While it’s not really a bad game and definitely not as bad as some reviews make it out to be, it has a lot of missed potential. I feel with a stronger story that took itself less seriously, and with better voice acting and stronger music the game could be a real blast. Oh well, maybe Ion Maiden will prove to be a stronger experience given it’s using the good old Build engine, the same tech which powered Duke Nukem 3D, the series from which Bombshell was born from? Time will tell. In the meantime, I would say Bombshell is worth giving a shot if you can find it on sale and crave a simple isometric shooter with a b-movie story and playing as a badass female with a robot arm. Because as mediocre as this game might be, Shelly “Bombshell” Harrison is still a hell of a gal and I really hope to see her in more games and watch her grow as a character.

Buggy as hell, and very unpolished. Started out as a fun game, but by the end it was just frustrating and stupid. I didn’t even get the final weapon because the game’s fucked, which also meant I couldn’t do 2 of the challenge missions, which were some of the most fun parts.
I initially started playing this because I wanted the backstory before moving on to the related game Ion Maiden / Ion Fury which looks much better than this ended up being.
The WEAPON in this game called Ion Maiden, in railgun mode, is massively OP, kills everything except bosses in 1-2 shots, and pierces, so if you line/group up a few, kill ‘em all at once. It’s energy based (no bullets) and recharges its ammo at an ok rate, which gets faster as you upgrade it. It auto-aims too, but I think that’s all guns because the cursor targeting is really fucky. The only time I have to switch to other weapons is if there’s an extended battle and I can’t be waiting for the railgun to recharge. This also means that most of the ammo pickups scattered around the game are useless. One enemy is an ice skeleton enemy with shield, and sometimes they “block” (even though there’s no visual indication except that they are standing still) and if you shoot them it reflects the damage back at you. So…I’ve killed myself on that many times.

Eliosi’s Hunt
This game is a top-down shooter/platformer mix heavily inspired in Crash Bandicoot. For those who like this genre, like myself, this will be a fine addition to your collection.
This plays in a really fast pace and there are lots of collectibles to search for in each of the stages. The enemies and platforming aspect of the game sometimes feel unfair, but it’s mostly about getting used to the patterns and timing. The game also has nice speedrunning aspects.
This game was the most fun and challenge I’ve had in while. It was really hard getting 100% achievements on this game. Great experience, overall!

Great game. Fast paced and really dynamic, Eliosi’s hunt successfully preys the player’s attention to explore good-looking maps while fighting off enemies. The visuals are as great as the soundtrack, which fit nicely to each stage design. The difficulty and enemies’ reactions are at a good level and the search for collectibles is fair and fun. I haven’t completed the character’s upgrades, but they do add differences in the gameplay, which affects replayability, even more if you’re a completionist or a speedrunner. About the controls, they’re very responsive and the game feels both fluid and intuitive.

Gemstone Keeper
I might write another review when I play more, but for now here is what I think after reaching the first boss. (I won’t be talking about the sound since my laptop was muted)
I had played Gemstone at Insomnia awhile ago and enjoyed it. I brought it yesterday since it was on sale and sat down to play it today. I really did enjoy it and like how simple the controls are and how simple the game is so far. I do expect it to become harder.
However, there are two things I need to make aware. The first is the bright purple light when you enter a portal and the bright red light when you beat a boss. Although I do not suffer from epilepsy, I found it too bright, harsh and sudden.

While I’ve only got a couple hours on the clock with Gemstone Keeper, first impressions are really quite good. The game plays precisely as sold, there’s an interesting variety of enemy types, the moving & shooting is super smooth, the weapon combinations make for a fun arsenal, the gem collecting aspect is rewarding enough and the overall look & feel of the game, to me, has huge appeal.
The somber, suped-up ASCII art style is awesome and shows from the dev a particular reverence for the roguelikes that started it all. Enemies are all easily distinguished and the shifting environment palettes from floor to floor help change things up during a run, although the everpresent hashtag walls are an inescapable visual sameness. There’s a variety of trippy screen effects (identified in-game as “mists”) that distort & obfuscate the play area, from watery ripples to a rapidly pulsing screen blur to just straight up fog-of-war-ing the edges of the viewport. These add flavour and interest to the floors where they occur but I must admit the pulsing effect makes me a little queasy; I understand their gameplay-altering intent but some control over the intensity of these effects would be most welcome for sensitive players.

iBomber Attack
This game saved my life.
I am 55.
My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and adopted our son together. They are now both 4 years old.
When we were going through our separation, I found myself lost and miserable. I was self destructive. I got so mad one day from everything spiralling out of my control that I punched some concrete in a moment of overwhelming emotion. That caused me to break my 5th metacarpal in my right hand… my working hand… my games hand.. the hand that I held and carried my children to bed with.. The hand I desperately needed to make sure I could continue to provide.

I had a lot of fun playing iBomber Attack, but on several occasions the game has suddenly crashed and dumped me to my Windows Desktop. This alone is not the reason I am leaving a negative review, as even great games can have a hiccup from time to time. The problem is that after each crash I have lost a lot of progress - missions that I had completed were no longer complete and money / skill points I had earned were gone. The game does not have a manual save feature as far as I know, and if autosave is the only option then it should autosave after each mission attempt. The crashes were not frequent, but for me that isn’t the point. This is a sloppy game design and programming choice in a game that is otherwise well crafted. If this problem were to be addressed I would certainly reccomend this game, but as it stands I don’t think the game is worth putting in time that can be too easily lost.

Inferno 2
This game has a lot of great things going for it, like consistent design, zero slowdown even under the craziest projectile load, and some seriously excellent sound. The mazes are large and simplistic, and no level takes any real amount of problem solving to complete. The neat tricks on offer - secret destroyable or passable walls, bonus exits etc - are used sparingly enough that the core gameplay is always front and centre. It never feels like a weak game behind obscured by distracting tricks. It is, I have to say, a real heap of fun, except…

Great game, already working through the ‘New Game+’ mode.
I noticed 2 things though during the playthough. 1. The portal locations I don’t believe were explained and their usage isn’t consistent on every level (the direction you enter from determines the way you exit, usually). Secondly, For some reason I can’t select various upgrades (like Armor) on the upgrade panel. Given it’s a prerelease its awesome.

Quest of Souls
Quest of Souls is a fantasy, twin-stick, shoot ‘em up, RPG adventure with skill upgrade customization, multiple endings, pixel graphics, a story-rich experience, and a dragonslaying corgi!
Quest of Souls is inspired by nostalgic 90’s SNES games like Pocky & Rocky, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Super Smash TV, Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, FF3, Gauntlet, and the Legend of Zelda series. If you like those games, we are making Quest of Souls for you!
We are planning for three player co-op, three levels of difficulty (Casual, Normal, and Insano), 7 full levels in game, and secret unlockable story twists and characters!
The core of combat is an action packed twin-stick shooter. You dodge enemy projectiles while using each of the character’s four abilities to get to the end of the level. As the game progresses you make decisions in the story that lead you down different paths. Each of those paths have their own encounters, enemies, and unlockable skill upgrade books used to enhance and customize each character’s abilities.
The storyline revolves around three main characters: Brunhilde the Good Lich, Toki the Dragonslayer, and Yoshimbo the Sworn Protector, and their quest to track down a powerful magical artifact of great value that was stolen by a mysterious dark sorcerer.
Their trek takes them across a wondrous fantasy landscape boasting vastly different environments to explore and decisions that change not just the story, but the actual levels themselves!
Wait, you said a lich, a dragonslayer, and a Yoshimbo?!
Yep. So, Brunhilde is a lich who uses her powers for good, Toki was once a noble fairy dragoon’s battle mount, and Yoshimbo is a ronin on a personal redemption quest wandering the countryside. Here they are!
