The Inner World - The Last Wind Monk
“The Inner World - The Last Windmonk” is the sequel to “The Inner World” and also a point & click adventure for beginners and advanced adventure gamers.
And even though not having played the first game shouldn’t get in the way of solving puzzles and liking the game, I recommend playing the predecessor first.
The sequel shows the fantasy world of Asposia, three years after the first game’s ending. After the so-called flute-nose dynasty and its survivors rose from being stone statues for years, they are now officially persecuted by a tyrann named Emil who wants to hunt down and execute all flute-noses, making them responsible for controlling the dangerous basylian monsters (basically flying mechanical dragons which were a creation of the last dictator who told his people they were living, dangerous creatures).

The Inner World - The Last Wind Monk is a fantastic point & click adventure game. I recommend this game to anyone who likes p&c adventure games, although I do need to point out the following three caveats:
1. This is a family-friendly game set in a charming fantasy world. If you’re looking for gritty or mature content, this is not the game for you.
2. This is not a very difficult game. If you’re looking for an excruciatingly difficult p&c adventure game the likes of 1990s Sierra games, this is definitely not the game for you.

Between Me and The Night
Between Me and the Night captured my attention. The ability to be someone else is something that I’ve long wanted to be. It’s not that I hate myself but I always wanted to be something more than what I turned out to be. I was a promising basketball player at one stage and had scouts looking at me but illness as well as the fact that I stopped growing when I was 5’7″ and was never an athletic freak good enough to make up for a lack of height stopped me from becoming a professional. I wanted to excel professionally in other athletic ventures but was never very good at anything other than basketball. Other dreams included becoming an air force pilot (my eyesight was never good enough) or an astronaut (I’m fairly intelligent but not when it comes to the required sciences) so being a talent scout, writer, marketer and business person were my limits. Not bad but certainly nothing spectacular. Therefore the premise here was perfect for me. I tend to believe most of us can relate to the young boy in the story who is confronted with the realities of a modern world – including hot topics such as school bullying – and needing to escape it.

Between me and the night is a creative artistic game that amplifies certain phases of life a man can go through. You follow the role of a nameless boy with red hair who is plagued by various illusions of his nightmares. The game is technically very short and sweet (unless you give your best for the achievements). Before you buy, consider there was a bug in the game in the “house level”. Unless you don’t go through a particular order in the house level, you are guarantee to get stuck and go no further. So it’s best to follow a walkthrough before finishing the first level unless you want to get frustrated. The bug could be bypassed so I did not consider it as a major flaw.

D/Generation HD
I’m a huge fan of D/Generation, I played the hell out of the original version and was very excited to hear about the HD remake. Having just finished a full playthrough of the HD version my opinion is very mixed.
On the one hand you have absolutely gorgeous colorful graphics, an amazing soundtrack that makes exploring even more fun than in the original and the same smart gameplay as the original as well.
Make no mistake, this is very much a thinking man’s game. Although it may not look it at first, you’ll quickly find that puzzles and discovery of the games rules are the primary gameplay mechanics here.

I’d like to start by saying I played this game on the pc many years ago and I remember loving it. I got pretty far but never quite beat it. Since it was so long ago there are various things about it I don’t remember so I looked up a Youtube vid of the original to remind me. The game was originally made in 1991 but don’t let the age fool you because the gameplay was quite solid.
The game is an isometric puzzler. Your goal is to deliver a package to a guy on the top floor. As you play you can talk to people and learn more about what’s going on. You run around activating switches to open doors, finding security passes to open others, shooting enemies, dodging traps, and rescuing people (though that’s optional). You die in a single hit from all enemies and traps and you have a finite amount of lives (though you get an extra life for every person you rescue. And don’t forget, you can always save scum!).

Dawnthorn
Dawnthorn is a topdown, pixel-art ARPG with a character and experience firmly rooted in the 8bit era. It features action-adventure style gameplay. Players will experience hectic, item-driven real-time combat, and solve puzzles and challenges spanning one single room, or the entire game-world! The experience features over 9 unique dungeons, and a sprawling overworld linking everything together, filled to the brim with rich characters, subquests, mini-games, and dozens of secrets.
Players take on the role of a headstrong young archetypal hero who, though from a prosperous time of bounty, has dedicated himself to righting a great wrong committed centuries ago. He comes armed only with fierce will and the promise of youth. Will these alone be enough?

Simon the Sorcerer - Mucusade: 25th Anniversary Edition
This review is about the port, not the game itself. I guess everybody who buys Simon knows what to expect.
They redesigned the graphics of the control panel and added a key to display hotspots, but simon has only a few per screen. That’s it. I see no more inprovements from the scummvm version and that one. There is not even an autosave option. You cannot leave screens by double clicking and you cannot change walking speed, the skip option is also horrible, u will miss a lot be using it, because mostly not only the displayed sentence is skipped. The game runs stable at 40fps on my RTX3090, only if the backround has to scroll it becomes real jerky. So you will buy an Intel 486 Simulator as well, just to show you how high ended this game realy was. xD

This was an enjoyable blast from the past. A couple of elements of the humour of this game haven’t aged well, and I do think two of the puzzles are so obscure as to be unfair, but apart from that, still good. I actually think the guy who plays Simon in this is better than Chris Barry in the first one.

The Final Battle
Genre - Retro Text and Picture based RPG
Used to love this game on my Atari ST (with higher quality images) as a kid.
It’s nice to be able to play it again, for the nostalgia factor. I was never able to complete it without a full guide. Luckily I can’t remember much about the puzzles though.
The controls were confusing at first, but think I get them now (use single/double/right click and drag and drop). If you lose a party member you will need to reload or restart, and it is easy to lose them (including not saving them quick enough at the start).

Great Game and a Special Gem of 2018
I will update this review quite often, and the game did have some rough patches to get through, I am glad to see this game on steam.
Atmosphere: Feels like Earthbound, Final Fantasy, and maybe Chrono Trigger, The RPG elements is well thought out and for the team’s first game did not turn out so bad after all.
Graphics: 2D, nice touch and the feel fo the design choices fit comforatble well. Very good sense of Nostalgia back in the day when playing old school games. decent animations, could use some more visual power.

A Small Robot Story
Absolutely love A Small Robot Story. Never been one to really play a lot of platformers, but the charm of the story - to me - makes the frustration well worth it. Art and music are both incredibly beautiful, the gameplay is challenging but also really rewarding… Overall a fantastic experience. Would definitely recommend, hands down.

What a nice game! I’ll admit I’m a sucker for story-based games and platformers alike, and this one makes me feel just a bit nostalgic for when I was beating Cave Story+ for the first time.
The arcade-y, roguelike system means that this isn’t a game you save and pick up later. It’s short-ish, but you have to complete it in one go. Effectively, you have nine lives, although the game’s pretty generous with healing.
The learning curve is really satisfying: every time you get smashed to pieces in seconds by the level boss, you’re thinking, how am I supposed to get past this? You’ll probably get pulverized by each boss until you run out of continues once or twice, but then somehow you learn and react faster and beat it. It’s not a strategy thing, it’s a rhythm/reaction time/muscle memory thing. You don’t have to think too much about it.

Catsby
I bought this game a while back, and finally got into playing it. I’m about half way done with it now, and all I can say is wow! The gameplay is fun, until you manage to get yourself stuck in an area where avoiding damage every few steps is nearly impossible. I personally think the areas with all the spikes shooting through the walls and having to jump from each one to get to the top just sucks. Also, I like the wall climbing ability, but not while I’m avoiding boomerangs from skeletons on every frickin side of me, and all I want is this stupid fur ball to jump down the stinkin hole! No teleports either, at least not yet. I feel like I spend half my game time just going back and forth, repeatedly dying left and right!

What looked to be a simple, charming Kirby-clone, and throwback to the original GB era in general instead turned out to be a frustrating slog with inconsistencies across the board, and no easy way to get to safe havens. The boss fights are decent, but that’s about it.
