Squids Odyssey

Squids Odyssey

Expected it to be a simple game to play between “serious games”- turned out to be a fun alternative to complicated titles.

Game good but it’s sad it’s experience is altered by various glitches and bugs

There are quite a lot of levels, around 20 hours of gameplay i would say?, add another 15 for completing

! pro mode .

The squids are cute

There are quite a lot of squids (around 10)

The levels look great

Can be very dynamic, especially with scout class squids

Can crash for multiple reaons, here’s a list (also some bugs)

-Clicking pause just before losing a game (like, your character fall and you want to restart to get 1 sec faster because of the losing screen)

Detective Hank and the Golden Sneeze

Detective Hank and the Golden Sneeze

A VN mystery solving game with four routes in the main game and 3 in the bonus. I liked the artwork mainly for its simplicity and minimal nature. This is easily a game to play when you want to play a quick game but don’t want to invest too much time in it.

My playthrough is longer since I had to take breaks in between my office work. The story is very simple and looking for clues amidst the conversation becomes easier on your second play through. However, by the time I was on route 3, it did start to become a little too repetitive - thankfully, they have the option to skip the dialogues until the next choice. Be warned though, you may potentially miss out on any different dialogues.

This is a wonderfull visual detective novel suitable for younger gamers. The mysteries involve simple things from finding out who stole a cookie to who stole the Golden Sneeze from the museum.

Light hearted and funny mysteries that can be played through in a single evening.

I had a lot of fun playing this with my nephew and watching him solve the mysteries. Made babysitting the kid really enjoyable.

Moriarty: Endgame VR

Moriarty: Endgame VR

This is rad. Moriarty Endgame is a bold step towards the future of the graphic novel/comic book. I had to play through twice since the first play I was so focused on the creative shader use and the blending of 2D comic sprites in a 3D immersive plane that the story went right over my head. The creators throw us right into the world of Moriarty with very little hand holding – which is nice. The writing and art style are consistent with a high fidelity voice over and sound effects leading the pace. I was briefly removed for one moment in a scene where we learn how Moriarty gained his super power. It felt forced and unnecessary in comparison to the subtilty in which other major plot points were revealed. That being said, the dark matter super power story will make a great episode on its own. It also moved a little fast for my taste. One thing that is wholy unique to comics as apposed to digital media is the ability to ‘travel at your own pace.’ To handle this the developers implemented a simple forward and reverse feature that allows you to easily restart a scene or skip to the next (I would guess each scene is the equivelent to 1-5 panels in a normal book). Still, I think there could be a more creative way to let the reader move at their own pace. These are nit picking observations, and at the end of the day Moriarty provides a concise and cohesive product, which is twice as impressive when you consider they are paving the way. I am excited to see what the team puts out as they become more comfortable exploring this new take on the media.

So I got this on the Halloween sale for .99 cents and the experience lasted 10 minutes. I can definitely recommend this experience. The only problem is that it does feel short, that’s because the experience is very engaging and things are heating up. It’s like a teaser. Just when things are getting really good, the experience ends.

I would definitely love to see where this story goes. Basically, this is a VR comic book where you have a screen shot of the action for the comic. But all the while you’re in the background of the place where the action is taking place (which is in black and white). This contrasts really well with the stark colors inside the “pages.” There are few animation even within the pages of the comic book.

To the prospective player:

As a lifelong fan of ArmorGames, one can imagine my delight when I was meandering down the aisles of the Indie Megabooth at PAX West 2018 and saw a familiar face. No, I don’t mean Tasselfoot, whose helpful video walkthroughs helped me through all of my favorite flash games from 2010.

It couldn’t be! The memories flashed by in mere seconds, reminding me of pain-staking hours spent guiding a blue humanoid through a deadly array of obstacle courses, being tantalized by a sadistic robot reminiscent of some of science fiction’s best antagonists, such as HAL 9000 and GLaDOS.

Let me get straight to the point, is this game fun?

I have 2 answers for that

Yes - if you like hard games that are easy to get into but though to master

No - if the line above doesn’t match

Personally I think this game is pretty fun and it’s worth the time to beat it

My first run was on hard but there is no a shame of going on easy mode

There is a mechanic in this game that I like where if you die 10 times in a level you can give up and go to the next one and then return when you feel ready

(My friend had to give me back 15 dollars for a game that I bought for him and I’m happy that I made him buy me this game)

Rise of the Slime

Rise of the Slime

Rise of the Slime

You suddenly wake up as a small Slime and are told to go on a journey across the land to reclaim the throne…

Slay the Spire but with a slimy gooey twist

After playing the game for quite a while now I can say that I really enjoy it and every little aspect of it.

Art

The artstyle is a cute comic cutout style with almost everything being moved around on sticks like on a kids play which adds a unique charm to it. Small details like two extra arms holding up shields to signify block are just cute.

I was pleasantly surprised by this game. This is NOT just another carbon-copy deck builder.

Rise of the Slime feels a bit more casual than similar titles. I died less often, and combat encounters felt less swingy in general. You can expect to get much further in your runs, and to have more control over the cards in your deck.

The adorable graphics and setting are a huge bonus. Most deck builders take place in a highly gritty fantasy setting, and the adorable art style is a nice change of pace. It is also nice to walk through the world rather than click on rooms in a menu. There are even a few secrets with the interactable terrain.

ARCADE

ARCADE

ARCADE is a cool hardcore fast-paced action game! In the game, you need to control a spaceship and dodge a heap of shells flying at you or shoot back from them. The ship is controlled by the keyboard, and the direction of fire is by the mouse. The graphics are made in a space neon style, very cool. At the moment, only one mode is available - after holding out for a while, the level and, accordingly, the difficulty increases. But the game is still in development and promises cool new functionality for a change.

One of the best arcade games I’ve ever played. A lot of exciting levels and interesting gameplay.

New mechanics. I really liked the game, I advise everyone to start playing it. Now there is a discount on it. Many achievements in the game. There is support for the controller. The game is not expensive and very addictive. Those who like arcade games and shooters are sure to play. If there are any problems, they will definitely help you. I advise everyone that the developers do not cheat a little when writing a description on top!

At Home

At Home

This review was made for Elite Giveaways by Anna from Malkavian Madness

At Home is a game with failed potential. In At Home, strangers come into your house and kidnap you. You then must escape from the locked hut you find yourself in. The description can continue, but as another reviewer put it, “[a] lot of words [in the description,] but not all true.” The story is poorly written, there is no fear of dying because you never see the kidnappers, there is no need for stealth, the game is plagued with bugs, and questionable technical decisions run amok.

While this game’s visuals are pretty nice, $5 to me is kind of pushing it. There’s not a lot of substance to the game and spoiler there’s no real threat the entire time. The ambiance is pretty good as I was on edge a bit with the creaking windmill and such, despite being pretty sure there was no real threat. The ambiance and approaching sounds in the woods when you attempt to escape where pretty good too.

Towards the beginning, the lights go out and the doorbell rings. At this time, while you can still find your way to the door, it’s very difficult to see and from a game playing perspective near total darkness in a game where you have to actually feel your way around is not fun, it’s just annoying. I also felt like some mechanics weren’t really explained, such as starting up the car and in a much smaller case, opening the shake’s door. Both require multiple tries, with the car being a lot more unpredictable as far as how long you have to hold the button, or how many times you have to press it.

Bizarre Earthquake

Bizarre Earthquake

Bizarre Earthquake is a good casual adventure game.

It has an original storyline compared with those in the “game industry” as a whole, including the adventure genre. No horror, no blood, no zombies, no vampires, no trashy things : nothing that will hurt your feelings. It’s almost family-friendly BUT not in a way that you’ll feel like you’re playing a children game, far from it. At least it’s not violent nor gore.

Admittedly it’s not realisitic all the way (especially in the end), but it’s a game, it’s not meant to be a hundred percent plausible and the main idea remains interesting, even though certain aspects of the plot lack some depth. But given the price it’s okay and it doesn’t take the fun away.

This little charming hidden gem of a quirkily adventure (accomplished by a one-person development team) deserves a closer look/review. The puzzle (and character/dialogue) design is interesting and funny, but can get very challenging (tricky/illogical) at the end. Although, some puzzles can be skipped.

The game offers you to switch between characters and take different approaches on how to solve puzzles/on how to proceed on the main “quest/topic”. The integrated hint/help systems provides additional guidance and support. The general behavior of the game is very slow paced and you need to be patient.

RECOMMENDED Ratings 6/10 (Fun game, Good Music, A bit short)

I like the game and played it to completion twice. I did not find any bugs too, and can confirm that all the achievements are working.

However, I gave this game a rating of 6/10 because there are both pros and cons in this game.

On the pro side, the story is very interesting and well written. I also enjoy all the different cut-scenes as well. The music in this game is really top notched, especially the fighting musics which really worked me up to a frenzy. Nice.

Real player with 38.5 hrs in game

The game kept appearing everywhere I went, so obviously that meant I had to play it. Graphics are adorable, I like the character designs, but most of all… that OST/Music!!! It is just superbly enjoyable! Great picks!

I gotta say that this game isn’t very… easy and that is okay, a challenge is a challenge. However, I had no clue about what “Astrology” meant and thank you to the kind soul for actually letting me know what it all meant, so I could properly do what I wanted to do.

The flying and exploration are fun and I hadn’t clicked on so many walls in my lifetime! There are also super hidden things, SUPER HIDDEN… good luck finding ‘em all!
