Enter The Backrooms

Enter The Backrooms

Honestly, the graphics look bad. But that doesn’t exactly make the game bad.

You see, I’ve lost interest in backrooms over the past few months. It became the same thing: mono yellow office rooms, more levels. It became too predictable after a while.

This game you see here called Enter The Backrooms, doesn’t do that.

It intentionally deviates a little from the wiki just to make this game a little more unpredictable. Honestly, I prefer games that deviate from the wiki more than games that follow into the wiki’s footsteps. I do not like games that follow the wiki for the backrooms much as it makes me feel like the backrooms aren’t a horror story anymore, but rather an adventure story. This game may be a wiki game, and I find this game an Adventure game more than horror. It is just my opinion, you can disagree with me, but I find this not very scary. Although this is not very scary, I never said this game is a bad game.

Enter The Backrooms is an example of what hard work and time aswell as effort can do.

The game is well made and gives off a unique atmosphere and already has given me chills aswell as small rushes of adrenaline while being chased.

Seeing a game based off the backrooms is amazing i’ve been looking forward to something like this.

Anyone who enjoys the backrooms should play this game for sure.

I cant wait to play more!

(Edit)

There are many different levels to go through ranging from level 0 all the way to level 11 and thats not even including the fact that more content is coming!

Somehow manages to be genuinely entertaining and one of the few games I’ve ever 100%.

Things to note:

Everything is in character. Store page, community discussions posts by the dev, every line of dialogue/piece of music. I don’t understand why you would do this to yourself and it makes everything so much better to be bewildered by a dev who can obviously pull off something decent (and this game shows it, especially with some of the puzzles) but instead puts out candice debebe.

Main draw is the music. It has no reason to end up being decent 75% of the time. Both games end up having at least one or two tracks that are genuinely really good and I hate that I know lyrics by now.

Nevermind

Nevermind

Nevermind is a unique and refreshing first-person adventure game made with Unity. You will explore the mind of people who’ve experienced a psychological trauma that they have forgotten or have suppressed but nevertheless defines their present state of mind. Your goal is to explore the strange surroundings the subject’s mind shows you, piece together the traumatic event and solve a few puzzles that represent the mind throwing up barriers to hide the trauma from the subject’s conscience mind and from your poking around. All this results in a very surrealistic gaming experience that screams originality, but I should warn the faint of heart that Nevermind does contain some disturbing images due to its subject matter.

Looking for a scary game? Well, this is not the right one for you. However, if you’re interested in a game which simulates human’s subconcious mind and let you discover the connection between trauma and mental illness of different individual in a serious manner, this is one of the best you can find.

Nevermind is different from most of the horror games on Steam, because it neither want to scare you with ridiculously loud sounds or monsters chasing you all over the place, nor does it want to disturb you with excessive violent scenes or nonsensical dark storylines (all these are the things so many self-proclaimed “horror” games did and screwed up terribly), instead, it tries to put you in the shoes of those who went through real-life traumatic events that brought them tremendous psychological distress, which in my opinion, is the one and only true horror a person may unfortunately encounter someday in life, rather than monsters, ghosts, etc..

Opening Up

Opening Up

I play a lot of indie games, so I never have very high expectations.

That said, this game is very bad, even by my standards.

The voice acting is sooooo slow and awful, and there’s no way to skip it or speed it up.

You also constantly get stuck and hung up. Any time you stand next to anything, no matter what it is or how smooth it is, you get snagged there. Always.

Aside from the technical issues, the story and characters are also terrible.

The detective you play as is intolerably naive, and he has the reasoning skills of a 7 year old. His conclusions are ridiculous and irrational, but the story is linear, so you’re stuck accepting whatever he decides.

Prisoner 518

Prisoner 518

Overall, a fantastic game/story. Play time for me was 14.5 hours.

When I purchased this game I was expecting an average VR game…boy, was I wrong. This Developer (by the way, it is a one person team) is very creative and has developed a game that is fun, has a great story, and is well worth the price. The audio and music is exceptional throughout the entire game. Some comedy, some scares, some surprises, fun puzzles, and tension as you proceed through the prison complex. Without spoilers I have to say the ending was excellent; and I can’t wait for more.

Real player with 14.5 hrs in game

Really pleasantly surprised by this game. Developed by a single developer, and his first game at that, this is a really well crafted game.

Set on a remote prison station in orbit around a planet it’s essentially a Sci-Fi based escape game with a horror/mystery background. The story telling is really well executed and unfolds as you progress through the game. The music, sound effects and voice overs are all top quality and the exploration is mixed with puzzles which are always logical although not always obvious, so a little thought, careful observation and lateral thinking required in places.

SICK

SICK

Sick is a psychological horror walking simulator built on the idea of repetition, much like we have seen since the incarnation of PT and the many who are seeking to replicate the same feeling, but in their own unique way. In Sick, you are constantly looking for keys (Sometimes, levers are involved) to open a door into the house or a door on the second floor. Once you reach the second floor and attempt to enter the room you spawn back to a familiar but now rearranged setting from outside the house. Again I have to look for keys and attempt to get further into the room.

The Archetype

The Archetype

The Archetype is an episodic indie horror game that puts us in the shoes of Archty Tolomei, a 9 years old boy suffering from several mental illnesses (schizophrenia, for instance), emotional and physical abuse from his mother and father (respectively). Each episode will contain a piece of Archty’s life, ranging from his adolescent years to his last moments on Earth.

Right now, I can only discuss chapter 1 since it’s the only chapter available at the moment. This review will be updated as more chapters are added.

Real player with 7.8 hrs in game

I will begin my review with a disclaimer. If you are uncomfortable with harsh topics such as abuse and alcoholism, this game is not for you. As well as that, if you are easily frustrated or frightened, this is not the game for you. The Archetype, while having an end-goal, offers no explicit objectives beyond ‘explore’ and will not hold your hand in the slightest. It can be scary, it can be confusing, and that is the point. It’s not just a standard game, it’s bringing you into the world of this scared young boy with multiple mental issues.
