Martha Is Dead

Martha Is Dead

Martha Is Dead is a dark first-person psychological thriller, set in 1944 Italy, that blurs the lines between reality, superstition and the tragedy of war.

As conflict intensifies between German and Allied forces, the desecrated body of a woman is found drowned… Martha!

Martha is dead, and her twin sister Giulia, the young daughter of a German soldier, must alone deal with the acute trauma of loss and the fallout from her murder. The hunt for the truth is shrouded by mysterious folklore and the extreme horror of war that draws ever closer.

What will prevail?

I am a streamer on Twitch (AnCapGamer) and BOTH of the devs were in my chat during my blind play though. This is a clip of how amazing they did with the game.

I HIGHLY recommend this game. The jump scares are well placed and the ambient sounds are well done - 11/10 =)

EDIT - I streamed this game again and got caught off guard by the same part, again!

Slick graphics combine with an ominous atmosphere in an everchanging array of creepy nightmarish scenes as you try to discover the mystery behind missing young girl Amy.

Very intelligent use of VR to keep you wondering whatever is coming next??? It’s difficult to write this review and not give too much away, but a few minutes in and you’ll be hooked! It’s a dark and immersive experience that has some well executed white knuckle moments. It’s a shame about the load times between scenes despite my beefy setup and depending on your exploration time, for the most part it’s quite short, so grab it on sale. Great title for horror fans and to scare the wits out of your friends…

Raziel

Raziel

“They say Hell lies in other people, but I don’t think it’s worse than living with your own past. Those people barely grasp what Hell can really be."

Synopsis

You are Avoir Cafard, a miserable, dull man that lives in a dirty and deplorable apartment, in a forsaken town with sad people and monotonous situations.

Avoir works in a local church as a spiritual counselor for people who have problems with life, either because of friendships, love, work, or family.

During five days, he will attend five different people with different situations that are disturbing them.

Taking them for a walk.

Talking to them for a while.

Making them see that things are not so bad as they imagine.

Maybe that will help them, somehow.

While at it, Avoir is also trying to solve his own problems. Problems about his own past.

He wishes to forget it at all costs.

Sadly, memories from an eternity seem impossible to forget.

About

Raziel (Rah-ziih-ell) is an adventure_-esque_, atmospheric and utterly poetic game where you wander about solving small tasks and talking to people. It aims to be a character study of five distinct people and their stream of consciousness, while also being a tale about introspection, alienation, nostalgia, loneliness, and the human condition.

The game is set within five days of Avoir’s life. In each of them, you meet a different person which you must help to ease their struggles about life while discovering new things about Avoir himself.

While not taking care of them, you are free to wander about in the city talking to its inhabitants and maybe even helping them along the way.

It revolves in five chapters with a prologue, two interludes, and an epilogue.

It was made using RPG Maker 2000, using everything the engine has to offer.

  • 3+ hours of gameplay;

SELF

SELF

SELF – An Ambitious and Surreal Text Adventure

SELF is a Kafkaesque text-based adventure that unfolds on an interactive CRT screen. The game claims to draw inspiration from titles such as Undertale and Just Shapes & Beats, striving to combine text-based narrative and choices with a variety of gameplay mechanics.

It is a decent interactive fiction that will provide around two hours of gameplay. The game has an interesting albeit confusing storyline that successfully captures the player’s attention. However, it oversells itself with exaggerated claims of puzzles and bullet hell sections, which although fun, are not overly challenging and often feel like a side note that would be better marketed as a unique take on decision making in games. I would recommend the game as a narrative experience, particularly to fans of text-based adventures, but would ward off anyone looking for more action-packed or high octane gameplay.

Very creative and dreamlike with enough nudges to help you find all of the narrative branches without taking away the mystery. Very unique narrative and I would love to see more like this.

Gil’s Lucid Dreams

Gil’s Lucid Dreams

Alt tab breaks the game, there are no saves, the visuals and audio gave me a headache, I just looked up an achievement guide so I can delete this and never think of it again. The only redeeming value is the hilarious broken English. Might be worth a “just chatting” stream but will only last 20 minutes or so. I spent more time simulating game play to unlock cards than I did actually playing it. Final warning: Do not buy if you value your sanity or time.

That is all.

Grayscale Memories

Grayscale Memories

Aesthetically, this game is gorgeous. The soundtrack flows well with the ethereal artwork. The dialogue is where it falls short as it can be pretty juvenile in a way that feels heavy-handed despite the game’s attempt to be seemingly abstract and thought-provoking otherwise, although if you have played JRPGs, then this is par for the course and can even be endearing to a degree as you progress.

Despite the ostensibly heavy subject matter, this game is far too short to convey any real depth on the topic of death and the afterlife. I had hoped to glean something about who the characters were in life, but of course that was expecting too much given the brevity of the story. The remaining problem is the conclusion is abrupt and nonsensical after the buildup throughout the game, leaving a rather anticlimactic sense of frustration on my part. As this is Early Access, it’s possible the “ending” will be expanded according to the informational post. If that occurs, I will update my review accordingly.

PSYCHO-PASS: Mandatory Happiness

The first thing that you must know if you are considering playing PSYCHO-PASS: Mandatory Happiness is that pressing 1 on the keyboard opens the menu. Press 1 to open menu.

The second thing is probably how it runs on PC. This is when a warning is necessary: some testers with Windows 10 64-bit reported late in the test period that the game wouldn’t play after the last patch was pushed.

During the beta test period, which formally ended almost 2 months ago on 1 March, NISA were suitably responsive to fix issues. After the test ended, some testers have posted problems but nothing has been heard from NISA, possibly because NISA stopped monitoring or being active on the beta test forum. Given how responsive NISA were during the test period, I believe it is reasonable to have some faith that NISA will fix the Windows 10 64-bit bug.

Reading this review will certainly clear your hue.

When we love a series, it is not uncommon to wish for a video game to be made in the same universe. Whether the game is actually good is up to how it is handled. A lot are bad, but there are some that rise up and is great. With 2 seasons and a movie behind it’s belt, Psycho-Pass comes up to bat with their own game: Mandatory Happiness.

This visual novel takes place somewhere between season one with a few hints on what episodes already or have not happened yet. But if you are new, whether you never knew it was an anime or never had the time to watch it, do not be intimidated. Mandatory Happiness does appeal to fans the most, but they do not suspect everyone to know all the terms and how the universe works. It subtly tells you about everything that is relevant while also filling up a tip menu. It also helps that the story is easy to follow, even if you never looked at the tips, you will get it enough to understand.
