Escape from Pleasure Planet

Escape from Pleasure Planet

After My Ex-Boyfriend the Space Tyrant I’d long been looking forward to playing Escape from Pleasure Planet, and was an early backer. This game was worth the wait. I’ll try to avoid spoilers.

The gameplay is consistently challenging and rewarding, has many humorous moments, and touchingly sad moments too. It’s a classic adventure game, similar to many of those produced by Sierra in the late 1980s to early 1990s, with a retro feel to it, while also being very much a game written in Python. The puzzles are both more challenging and more rewarding than many of the classic games, often breaking the fourth wall and requiring the player to think from a different perspective, which also fits well with the gay paradigm expressed.

Played this game off and on since I bought it. I reached a point that requires you save the game, log out, then log back in. I have not been able to continue from this point. I have emailed with the developer many times, and this still is where I am stuck. I actually enjoyed the game to this point. The entire concept of logging off and on again is very annoying, and obviously flawed. I am sad that the game has such a significant glitch that even advancing is not possible.

All in all, the part I played was fun. But, I would not recommend this game until the section with IRIS is patched or fixed, since the game cannot go beyond that point.

If you loved point-and-click adventure games when they were big (think Monkey Island, King’s Quest, Day of the Tentacle etc) and enjoyed the irreverent, cheesy, innuendo-laden humour of the Al Lowe Leisure Suit Larry games, MEBtST will be totally up your alley.

I grew up on the aforementioned click-and-point adventure games, and I loved them, and I really enjoyed this. It’s silly, over-the-top fun, with some great one-liners, some amusing pop culture references, break the fourth-wall moments, and a space opera to boot.

I didn’t hate this game, so I will recommend it.

It’s definitely not worth $14.99. The lowest price seems to had been $5.99. I’d say that is even pushing it. Hopefully you have a nice friend to get the game for you instead lol. Luckily, my friend did just that.

The story was sweet. The game felt a little too short. The game could be completed in four hours.

There’s not really a reason to replay besides an extra feature of being in underwear the entire adventure. The graphics would be a bit inconsistent when using that feature as it will sometimes show him wearing a shirt in the textbox.

No One Can Ever Know

No One Can Ever Know

No One Can Ever Know is quite possibly one of the best examples one can point to when making an argument for the merits of video games as an interactive medium. This is not a “fun” game in the traditional sense and neither does that seem to be the intention. No One Can Ever Know is a difficult, sometimes frustrating experience because it wants the player to know what its like to be in the creator’s shoes and by extension what it’s like to suffer from gender dysphoria. This is something only games can do, because while films and text can adequately convey emotions and ideas, they can’t quite put someone in the shoes of another individual in quite the same way a game can and I think for that reason, No One Can Ever Know is a huge success despite being a humble little title.

Open your eyes and close them and open them again….How many are looking through your eye(s)….one….more than one then there is only a number and the number of them is ONE number…. Be glad you are who you are and you are the only unique special person (number) of you that is!!!!!!! Do not lose hope and take your game elsewhere because if you go you will ruin it for me…. I need you to play so that the game of all lives can continue….everybody who ever and what ever and celebrate every precious moment

Rose Seed Replica

Rose Seed Replica

The most heartwarming story I’ve ever seen in a lesbian game. There’s also an underplot as to how the girls ended up where they did, but it’s not the main focus of the game. Also, there’s a few strange glitches that can occur that seem to be related to the fast forward button, but they don’t break the game or anything.

Full disclaimer: I was a beta-tester for this game and I’m in the credits.

Rose Seed Replica is pretty good! It’s also really hard to describe, as it turns out. I guess calling it a lesbian love story first and an adventure game second might be accurate enough. A big draw of the game is the many branching paths within it. These paths do tend to converge after a point, but there’s a ton of dialogue to see and hunt for across multiple playthroughs. Personally speaking, I did four playthroughs, one for each of the advertised romance types. I still definitely missed out on a lot of dialogue.

Togainu no Chi ~Lost Blood~

I want to mention that I played this game in 2006 and might have massive nostalgia goggles. I absolutely love this game and can recommend it to every BL lover who seeks something more rough. (I also recommend getting a certain patch from a certain website for little money as the Steam version lacks certain contents)

A Pretty Boy Goes to Prison

I want to say I have mixed feelings about Togainu no Chi, but the truth is I really enjoyed it and at times loved it. Still I have some issues and reservations which I’ll try to explain in this review. Togainu no Chi is the first Nitro+ Chiral BL game and one that appears to have been a great influence especially on DRAMAtical Murder. It’s also a game full of yaoi tropes, good and bad.

The setting is post-apocalyptic Japan split in two with Tokyo in the middle left as a lawless wasteland. The most dangerous district, Toshima, is a home to Igra, a game in Slavic languages, but one played to death. It’s actually kind of like a gladiator- street fight hybrid. Akira, the protagonist, is forced to participate and try to beat Il Re, the legendary phantom-like entity that is the undefeated king of Igra. This turned out to be a part of something much larger and life changing.

Yumeutsutsu Re:Master

Yumeutsutsu Re:Master

I have played through many of the Kogado games. Among their newest works, I love Nurse Love Syndrome immensely: the work part is realistic and poignant, and the romance is extremely sweet (particularly the part where

! the heroine made some food for Sayuri). I don’t like Nurse Love Addiction much though; it is thrilling at times, but for the most part I find it kind of pointless. I bought Yumeutsutsu Re:Master soon after release, hoping for something rivaling NLS, but dared not expect too much.

Game does support Enlgish with subtitles, with Japanese voice overs. I don’t know why but I had a hard time figuring that out from the steam page.

I’ll mainly be talking about the story aspects of the Visual novel as I have a lot more to say about that then about anything else there is in this game. I’ll go ahead and give like a one sentence max brief about each other aspect. If you want a ultimate TL:DR of the game though, it’s really good. Pick it up, play Saki and Nana’s routes and you won’t regret the purchase.

Letters From a Rainy Day -Oceans and Lace-

Letters From a Rainy Day -Oceans and Lace-

I’m a huge Yuri and visual novel so I was looking forward to playing this game when I first saw it on social media. I was even more hyped when one of the leads would be voiced by Reo Kurachi. I bought the game on release and played it in two days and was not disappointed and was fairly surprised at the feeling and quality it gave off.

Intro and setting

So it’s just a simple linear yuri visual novel. That means it has one ‘route’ with no choices and the focus is on the storytelling and feelings presented to the reader and not so much playing a game. So if you are looking for replay value it doesn’t have any of that but makes up in quality.

Real player with 22.4 hrs in game

Wow.

To start with; I was a little worried when this popped on the steam page, because the dev, Lily Spinel, is new and hasn’t made a game before, lol, I thought it might a laundering scheme because of how amazing the CG looked, but it was a dumb worry, because the final product is a very impressive display of talent from this new Yuri team.

INTRODUCTION:

Letters From a Rainy Day is a kinetic visual novel; that means there’s NO story choices. If that isn’t your thing, don’t buy it, but if your lukewarm but still interested, the story it presents is very good. It’s about two girls who meet under very dark circumstances, blackmail, and have to navigate a complex relationship built on lies. But more then that, the game looks reallllllly good.

OshiRabu: Waifus Over Husbandos

Alright, so first thing first, i don’t make review often, hell this is my second one since i created my account which pretty much showcase how badly i had to put what i think of the game out there.

Anyway, as much as i had fun with the game, i just can’t recommand it.

Why you ask ? Simply because the translation/localisation is horrible.

Be it the mistranlation of simple stuff like “Of course i was serious” or the use of meme culture slang to make it feel relevant to our era (which would make the replayability of the game near non-existent in the future) when it ends up having the opposite effect, the entire game is filled with those.

“Straight like spaghetti, until it gets wet! (´ω`)"

+ Point : It’s one of the best visual novel based on the Japanese anime style yuri theme.

[1] Intro

OshiRabu: Waifus Over Husbandos. This is a Japanese anime style visual novel by SukeraSomero. This development team has shown us yuri-themed works. In short, yuri means the theme of love between girls. Another visual novel called The Expression Amrilato was also produced by SukeraSomero Team. Their works are overall soft, heart-warming and pure. So it is especially recommended for beginners who are new to the theme of yuri.

Quantum Conscience

Quantum Conscience

Quantum Conscience is a sci-fi VN with an interesting “mind-read” gimmick. Fortunately, the gimmick works pretty well because it’s so intertwined with the main story and endings that you have no choice but to use it frequently if you want to fully experience the game.

Unfortunately, the gimmick isn’t fleshed out enough so what seems so cool about it at first can lead to frustrations that you can’t avoid.

There are consequences for mind-reading too little, or too much and the game doesn’t notify you of when there are new “thoughts” that you can read. You have to keep checking on the Void stream (the mind-read interface) to make sure you don’t miss anything. However, the game does indicate when your mind-reading (or lack there of) has consequences via use of symbols on screen. These symbols didn’t make much sense to me, and the tutorial vaguely explains them. I got the gist of it, but I feel like they could’ve been implemented in a better way.

Real player with 15.2 hrs in game

Short summary: A solid SF VN with an interesting mechanic.

At first I didn’t see how ‘reading minds’ was different than regular dialogue choices or anything, but the difference, though subtle, is powerful. Instead of a clunky full-stop in a regular VN with a pop-up of some choice or other, say ‘Go Left’/‘Go Right’, you can AT ANY MOMENT choose to read the people around you. You might pick up garbage, or you might stumble across a serious secret the person had a good reason to keep from you. Or you might just pick up something that could save your life. The knowledge gleaned will change the way the protag reacts, and it will change the way people react to him/her and so on in a very organic (usually) way. It allows the protag powerful conversational tools IF he chooses to violate the privacy of his friends and colleagues in a way the game stresses many times is actually very intrusive and potentially dangerous for the MC, his friends and the cause he believes in. Loose lips might sink ships, but that’s nothing compared to what an inappropriate mind scan at the wrong place and time can do.
