Dry Drowning
The story of Mordred Foley is the story of each and every of us
“My name is Mordred Foley, and what I’m about to tell is one of those stories that will keep you awake…"
Despite the fact I’ve been a fan of videogames since young age, it’s become increasingly rare for me to be impressed by single player titles up to a point my Steam library barely counts a half dozen titles. Such a result is the ultimate consequence of a personal war I wage against a saturated market that has in my opinion long since lost track of its original purpose: spark vivid emotions. Mass production and obsessive focus on aesthetic improvements have over time stripped contemporary games of meaningful plots, though outstanding exceptions still exist. I could spend a whole eternity elaborating on this point, but the best way to properly convey what I mean is to reference a 2005 interview featuring the frontman of Italian rock band Klimt1918. Here is what he has to say about his band’s approach to the pursuit of originality:

Review by Gaming Masterpieces - The greatest games of all time on Steam.

Is this game a masterpiece? It’s an Italian made visual novel, thankfully without anime characters, that follows the story of a chain-smoking detective and his girl on the trail of a serial killer. The detective can see if someone is lying him into the face, so he is quite successful at interrogations. Unfortunately, his hunt for the serial killer was not always successful so far, there even was a serious failure a few years ago. All the more he would now risk anything just to finally solve the case.

Of Light and Darkness
I used to have this game on a disk years ago but I lost it and I spent years trying to remember what the game is. Now I have found it. This game is very hard and the story is very confusing. I’ve still not got passed the first level. The controls are very annoying since it only uses your mouse, but if you want a very weird game from the 90’s and you have the time and patience to play it. I reccomend it.

There will be many falls and defeats, but don’t give up and don’t blame everything around you. All your failures are your fault, get up and move on, try again and again, the only way you will reach the end!

Event-D
This was a fantastic Sci-Fi visual novel that I have enjoyed spending my time reading. I love mystery themed visual novels and this one had plenty of unanswered thought-provoking mysteries that really makes you think. I am really looking forward to the mysteries being solved if there is ever a sequel. I find it sad when stories end with cliffhangers that could last forever because the game didn’t attract enough people. More people need to spread the word about this hidden gem. If you want a Sci-Fi visual novel and are tired of the anime/manga art style ones, I recommend this!

Interesting dialogues between the characters, and their place in this alternate future. The future of robotics and artificial life’s acceptance as autonomous beings is an interesting thought in itself. The storyline itself is easy enough for most people to grasp; no understanding of astronomy or robotics required!
Very straightforward story telling. Wastes no time with much extraneous dialogue. Easy to put on “Auto” and just coast along. Sometimes if you read the monitor screens ingame, there are strange Latin phrases. I have not had the chance to decipher much of them, but it would be cool to feature a part of the game that translates them!

Inquisitor’s Heart and Soul
Pros: interesting design, good cutscenes. Cons: these cutscenes cannot be skipped, it is not clear what the main character’s goal is

The idea is well thought out. There are several bugs related to the player’s respawn after death. I got to the second episode, but I can’t figure out what happens after the dialogue ends. The screen turns off and the game ends.

Fun game, better than Alt F4 in my opinion. The bunnyhop mechanic is really nice.
I can’t support the motion sickness criticism of a previous reviewer, he probably shouldn’t be playing fast paced games

Spaceland: Sci-Fi Indie Tactics
Spaceland review
Quick Review: Spaceland is a surprisingly fun game with some fun surprises, but only if you crank up the difficulty. It’s a very simple and straight forward turn-based strategy experience. The simplicity and bare-bones nature of the early game might turn players away. But those who stick with it will be rewarded with a bit more of a robust game than what initially meets the eye.
Important Note**:
First and foremost, you have to set the difficulty to the hardest setting: Normal. I played through the game on this difficulty, so my review is based on this. But I did replay the last two levels on Easy just to collect a couple things, and it was an absolute snore. You can play sloppy and rush decisions with no repercussions. There is just no challenge on Easy, meaning no strategy, meaning no game. In my opinion, Easy mode reduces Spaceland from a game to a “series of actions”. Please play it on Normal.

I had fun with it. It is 28 levels and I completed it in 16 hours with 100% achievements. I wouldn’t say it is casual, since the missions get pretty tough (on Normal, which is the highest difficulty). You start with only 1 person in the squad and that increases as you find more people. However, eventually you can’t bring everyone on each mission so you need to pick the team that is best suited. Some (or all) of the slots will be locked into specific members.
There are 2 upgrades, equipment (weapons and armor) and abilities. You need cash for equipment and chips for abilities. Each mission has a set of objectives, which gets you cash and chips. However, you only get the bonus the first time you complete them in a mission. You can replay missions for missed objectives, or to grind cash (killing monsters always gives cash). They also added daily missions in, that you can run to get more chips and cash (one per day).
