The first thing you need to know about 3rd Eye is that its illustrator is Koto Inari. Whereas most Touhou artists try to make ZUN’s girls cuter, lovelier and more stylish, Koto Inari gives them uncanny, twisted, often morbid or even mutilated forms.
You won’t be drooling over your favourite Gensoukyans in this one!
But that’s not why you’d play 3rd Eye anyway. It’s a gloomy, psychological horror adventure game with fairly simple puzzles. Solutions are usually found quickly so long as you investigate all objects you come across. Sometimes you’ll get different results or find invisible points of interest if you activate your Third Eye mode first. Not that much logical thinking is required, as the majority of items you pick up are used automatically once you interact with the object or person they are intended for.

Touhou Blooming Chaos 2
This is a fun little action game. It has nice graphics, the controls seem pretty good, and there’s a lot of achievements in the game to keep completionists busy for a good while.
Basically the game is an arena battler where in each room you enter you have to fight and eliminate all enemies before you can leave the room and choose where to go next. The floors in each maze are procedurally generated so the layout of the rooms in the maze is different every time. Somewhere in each floor there’s a portal that will take you to the next floor. After you kill enemies they may drop a coin with a monster or boss picture on it occasionally or they may drop things to help you like potions, powerup items that you can collect and use when you need a boost in combat, or equipment in the form of dresses. Your character can wear up to 6 dresses at once and these give you stat boosts. Each dress has a built in special effect or stat boost depending on the type of dress it is but it also has a number of random stat boosts depending on how rare the dress is. There’s 5 levels of rarity of the dresses I think so the least rare dress would boost one random stat a small amount and the most rare dress would boost 5 random stats up to potentially higher amounts, in addition to the base effect of the dress which is also stronger at higher rarity levels. A good part of the game is spent collecting and crafting dresses to try to build up your character and collections of specific monster and boss coins to unlock additional characters and to do this you will battle your way through the same mazes many times to try to find the loot you need.

I have no complaints. Yukari nailed me to the wall with a literal train and then chen stole my clothes - violated and abused - I died underneath the Express line to Gensokyo.
I was also chased through the incident by a perverted testicle wearing panties who was licking in my general direction!
On top of being violated by pervert spirits, I had to deal with these annoying heat seeking bullets that really messed my day up.
In all seriousness I think this game could be harder. You have to delve deep into the alternative dungeons if you want any kind of challenge. One such dungeon makes all the enemies HUGE (a common trend with Touhou games (size)) and so all projectiles were scaled with the enemy. One boss already had projectiles that could drown half the map, but after trying this mode I literally couldn’t see my screen because it looked like a Korean village during an air raid holy crap lmao

However, if you don’t know anything about Touhou whatsoever or know how to play Mystery Dungeon games, you may want to skip this. The game does include a tutorial that covers most mechanics and has a very, very thorough bestiary, character guide, trap guide, etc., so it’s just a lot of reading to understand the gameplay and story if you’re new to it.

Little Marisa’s Disaster Journey
Little Marisa’s Disaster Journey is basically a Touhou-themed joke game. The main portion of it is a trapformer, but not an overly challenging one. The death endings are amusingly silly. Total playtime for me was a little above half an hour, but the game costs about as much as a stick of gum, so that’s not something to be offended by. Only thing that annoyed me: 4 3 2 would be a valid solution to the math puzzle, but it’s not the one Dark Sky Empire had in mind. Better write down the clue numbers and formulas so that you won’t be at a loss.

RAIN Project - a touhou fangame
Definitely a game that makes me want to play the team’s next game, but I probably wouldn’t grab this one if I knew what it’d be like.
The gameplay has a lot of little problems which eventually compound on each other to make the game incredibly frustrating. The controls are fairly coarse, with your character moving and falling really quickly, with a dash that gives iframes that occasionally can’t clear attacks. Your hitbox is pretty big, and your attack range is short, so you have to get really close to enemies, but not too close because they do contact damage, and that becomes even more difficult with twitchy controls and enemies that move really fast. You have a very short invincibility window after taking hits, so your four hit points can get drained in seconds. Implementation flaws occasionally cause you to take damage through no fault of your own when terrain doesn’t spawn in ways you can move to it. This all comes to a head with the final boss fight, which combines these issues with pure RNG attacks that regularly wall you completely in and force you to take damage, and a survival section that wastes 75 seconds of your time every attempt you make. The jank was too much: I’ve spent 14 hours with this game, at least nine of those were just trying to beat the final boss, and I think I’ve given up.

I really want to recommend this game. I really do. But as of now, it’s not worth it.
I have two minor nitpicks in the game: no map and only a few HP throughout the whole game. That is understandable since this is a Touhou (fan)game. That being said, there quite some bugs in this game that can make it harder, most notably the wooden platforms where it sometimes doesn’t seem to exist so you fall straight below. This is important to note since one of the boss fights requires you to jump from platform to platform to dodge attacks and most of those platforms are wooden ones.

Touhou Genso Wanderer -Lotus Labyrinth R-
This game is really very easy, and there don’t seem to be options to increase the difficulty. So I can only recommend this on the condition that you are okay with that. It’s overflowing with Touhou charm, and you can get quite a number of characters which, I believe, are all playable after a certain point(I haven’t actually tried every character, but it looks like they can all take up the role of leader after you get enough allies). The art and voices are cute.

If you came from playing Reloaded, this game is incredibly easier which may or may not be a selling point for you. What most of the players saying that the game is pretty broken in the player’s favor is in fact true, and there’s almost little challenge if you can get your equipment and team building right (which isn’t that hard to begin with.)
This game doesn’t have the crafting system, in lieu for the new party system letting you take 4 teams of six into the dungeon with you. Materials that were used for crafting are now used to level up party members and unlock their own unique skills. Traps that were plentiful in the past game are now severely nerfed in appearance, being not present for the majority of the base game, and to my knowledge were added in to the newer dungeons (possibly need clarification on that.) Equipment Leveling is now done on a rarity system instead, and upgrading said equipment is now streamlined super hard from the past game.
