Decent game to play with friends. Story a bit annoying when you don’t know what to do, since the game doesn’t tell you much, but the minigames are actually worth it.

All You Can Eat

All You Can Eat

I think this game is worth getting. But it’s not for everyone: it’s an adventure game in the Sierra-on-line (eg Kings Quest) style of game, where you have an inventory and have to click on objects. Fortunately, the game is short, so your inventory is never unwieldy nor are any of the puzzles bizarre. No having to put bat-guano in cannons or anything so counter-intuitive.

Here are the pros:

It is free of any problems or bugs.

There is no way to mess up… the game simply won’t let you use your items in the wrong place.

### An Interactive Comic Book that You Print Out and Color? Yes, Please!

### Introduction

This wonderful little gem, All You Can Eat, is a perfect blend of comic and game. The gameplay is just like any adventure title, complete with inventory, and simple point and click. It centers on our intrepid, but very lazy, main character. He is without a name in the game but in my playthrough, I called him “Bob.” He just seemed like a Bob. He needs to save his favorite all-you-can-eat diner from foreclosure and is forced into the wide world of his neighborhood to do so. The humor is corny and mostly clean (just a few curse words).

ComixPlay #1: The Endless Incident

its a turn based combat super hero game wrapped up in a story driven comic book. Alot to like here, and alot of interesting tactical choices to make. The first tactical fight is a quick tutorial, so you understand the basic concepts going forward and can jump right into the gameplay without alot of reading manuals. There are 3 difficulties - easy, normal, and hard. You can also easily go back and refight a wave or the entire mission to work on an achievement if you didn’t quite get it. There is alot to like here, and all the achievements work at the time of this review.

I have been a comic book fan for much of my life. Even when they weren’t super popular among my group of friends growing up I was a fan. With the resurgence of super hero movies over the past decade or so my social circle has occasionally relied upon my knowledge and input in regards to the back stories and the histories of the franchises that have hit the silver screen. It’s been a nice change. Unfortunately, there hasn’t been very many comic book style games that have been of a very high quality released. The best that I can remember are the Freedom Force games. Thankfully, ComixPlay have brought the genre back to life with the superb ComixPlay #1: The Endless Incident.

The Lot

The Lot

Take an atmospheric journey in a fresh, critically acclaimed format of a hand-drawn point-and-click comic-book. When a freeloading owner of a blue Mustang drives through without paying for the ticket, Harry Hunter, freelance parking attendant, ventures inside the lot to Make. Him. Pay. ™.

Just like our other interactive comics, upon finishing the game you can print out your entire adventure path in the form of an actual 30-50 page comic book. In response to (very positive! :) ) player feedback on previous games, this adventure includes multiple paths, endings and side-quests spanning thousands of lines of dialog tightly packed in a 2 hour narrative.

Gameplay

  • every interaction in the game world (such as talking, picking up items, using objects etc.) creates a new comic panel, furthering the story

  • hundreds of unique hand-drawn (and hand-scanned!) content rich panels for all the various combinations

  • improved replay value with multiple endings, sidequests, achievements and many different ways to solve the game mysteries

  • when the player ends the game, he is given the option to print out his gameplay in a comic book format

  • a new game+ option with a developer commentary track when you finish the game

I have some issues with how the game handles the narrative and the atmosphere, but let me start with the positives. The first thing I noticed is the hotspot indicator, double-tap for running, and a flexible save system, so at least it has that going for it. I had a few random glitches here and there, but in general, it feels like the developer put a decent amount of work into the UI. While you play through the story, you can choose to save or kill certain characters, so it has a good reason to replay it. It’s not very long, maybe 2 to 3 hours, but you can hunt for some achievements as well. I thought the game was animated really well, the only thing that I don’t like is that all the monsters are just too cute ;0. Now that brings me to some of the problems with the atmosphere, I think the mood in the game is all over the place, and for the entire playthrough, I was not sure what direction the devs tried to take - is it an intentionally funny game, or is it a horror game that fails to be one (and to me, it felt like both). Perhaps the writer just didn’t convey the mood to me that he wanted, and because of that, I was not entirely sure how to feel.

The Evolving World: Catalyst Wake

The Evolving World: Catalyst Wake

Only 3000 humans remain after three apocalyptic events, referred to as the “Catalysts”, severely decreased the population. Catalyst One resulted in the air being toxic to breathe, so everyone wears masks. After the collapse of the government, various organizations have formed, and fight each other for territory and resources.

Oliver Naut is a scrappy kid who has grown up alone in the Deadzones — the most toxic areas on the planet — with nothing but the robotic swords in his arms for protection. But now he’s teamed up with Namo, a skilled ex-assassin, to prevent an army of robotic soldiers from falling into the hands of the organizations, who will only use them for more violence and death. Will Oliver be able to bring humanity together to fight for peace instead?

Catalyst Wake is a linear visual novel. Instead of the typical “sprites against backgrounds” format, the dialogue is accompanied by illustrations, which gives it a cinematic quality. It’s much like a motion comic.

It’s a continuation of a series of animations and comics that were released between 2011 and 2016 that will finally conclude the story.

  • Full English voice acting

  • Over a thousand illustrations

  • Original soundtrack

  • Bios

  • Behind-the-scenes

Wailing Heights

Wailing Heights

I think I’m instantly drawn to anything that features classic movie monsters (I’m looking at you too, Monster Prom) so that brought my interest to Wailing Heights. Overall, I enjoyed it. I felt that the puzzles were challenging without being too obnoxious or too simple. The art was great! The music was catchy, and I found myself singing along to some of the snippets during the character swaps. Oh by the way, it’s a character swap game where you have to use different monsters and utilize their unique abilities to solve puzzles.

A good but glitchy P&C.

Its specifics:

  • Fully voice-acted, high quality

  • Gamepad-friendly

  • Unusual inventory; no descriptions, no combinations… everything is used through dialogue

  • Cut-scenes in the form of comics pages

  • Music-themed

  • Interchangeable bodies with different abilities, dialogues and voices

Today is list-day, so here are the flaws:

  • The art is cool, but some animations are weak, notably the depth movements.

  • Imprecise hit-boxes require precise movement adjustments (minor annoyance.)
