Get ready for the jump scares! I had to change the language option at the start menu, which was no prob. I liked the tutorial instructions at the beginning, and the short background. I played for about 20 minutes and didn’t find anything but lost all 4 of my lives, so it may take some time to find all the trinkets. It may have been made by a new creator (which I was definitely fine with) and I absolutely enjoyed it. I plan on playing again when my neighbor isn’t asleep :P

I honestly don’t want to waste words on this one.

There are timestamps in the video I suggest that the developer watches the review section so you can fix your game.

Hell Pie

Hell Pie

Hell Pie is an obscene 3D platformer that takes bad taste to the next level! The game sees you grab the horns of Nate, the ‘Demon of Bad Taste’. He is given the honorable task of gathering the disgusting ingredients for Satan’s infamous birthday pie. To do so, Nate must venture out into the overworld and do whatever it takes to ensure those ingredients are secured in time, or there’ll be hell to pay!

Luckily Nate isn’t alone on this quest, his ‘pet’ angel Nugget is there to offer support. Nugget offers his holy insight when needed, but more importantly is chained to Nate, so can be used like a grappling hook or swung around as a weapon. Nate can also equip horns he finds across the world to give him new hellish abilities.

Together Nate and Nugget will explore insane environments, meet tons of repugnant characters and witness some truly shocking sights. Hell Pie is a seriously twisted take on the classic mascot platformer, come along for the ride if you think you can stomach it!

  • Become a demon: You’re Nate, demon of bad taste, the 8th deadly sin. While not taken very seriously in hell, he is feared on earth (by some…a few…2-3 people at least).

  • Heavenly support: Nugget the angel does not only look cute, he’s also useful. Throw him like a grappling hook, use him as a weapon and let him be your guide.

  • Freedom: Use the extensive moveset to overcome obstacles the way you want.

  • Filth: It might look cute, but there are violent characters, illicit drugs and sodomy.

  • Stuff: Collect things! Lots of things!

  • Hell and above: Explore 4 big worlds and survive challenging platforming levels.

  • Fashion: Buy outfits. You’re the demon of bad taste and should look the part.

  • Random bullet point: Did you know? Necrophiliac ducks exist.

New Super Lucky’s Tale

New Super Lucky’s Tale

I can’t recommend a game enough for those looking for something new in the same vein as classic 3D platformers from the N64/PS1 era. This is it! Although the game is targeted to a younger audience, there’s a lot that may keep you hooked no matter what the age: a fun and diverse selection of levels (3D, 2.5D side-scrolling, “runner” style levels, and a selection of varying bonus levels, just to name a few) and locations, cute characters, and whimsical and diverse soundtrack, just to begin with. Not to mention the Foxington hub world, designed for some pretty decently challenging stages!

I played the original version a long time ago and enjoyed it so much, that I just had to buy this one and play it again.

After playing this new version, I launched the original one to see the difference and wow, its a big one! In the new version, the graphics are smooth and the controls are tight!

There are a few misses in my opinion. In Wigglemania the hitboxes are a bit messed up. When an enemy hits you, most of the time it won’t register which of course is at your benefit, but its such a shame. What’s even worse to me is the fact that in the original version, Lucky ran on all four and I thought it was so cute and playful. Now he’s running oddly on two legs and it just looks wrong somehow. Feels like the animation is too fast for Lucky’s pace. However, they’ve also changed the burrow animation and this one is for the better! I love how Lucky’s tail pops out of the ground, it looks so cute. Burrowing was one of my favorite features in the original version and its even better in this one.

Genuinely one my favorite gaming experiences. Extremely creepy and surreal specially when your nausea is low and you’re randomly flashed with eerie videos or images. A bit confusing sometimes because the translation is done by AI and since the game is so unknown (and Japanese) it’s hard to find information (in English). Definitely not for everyone specially with some of the gory imagery, but overall a really really good experience that I’d recommend to anyone who enjoys more artsy-abstract games and exploring visually interesting worlds.

Like a surreal playable artpiece filled with brainfucks and thought-provoking dialogue that somehow make you feel like nothing and everything connect together. There are so many rooms and secrets that probably give this game a +100 hour playtime. Just a reminder that a living, breathing human sat down and tirelessly laboured over making this. Hats off to you rentaka, amazing music too.

Roxy Raccoon

Editing my review as I have played more and the dev has already updated some prior problems and is working on more

I am still playing through this, so my opinion may change. The game is indeed cute with a simple but enjoyable story line. There are many raccoons and other animals to enjoy. And the game is a lot bigger then I expected, lots of levels, unlockables, and hidden secrets. The music is pleasant and fitting, and I see no issues with graphics.

However, this game is not without faults.

Roxy Raccoon is a 3d platformer about collecting gems and gold stars from a variety of levels. The gems are like the music notes from Banjo Kazooie and gold stars are the jiggies. You get the stars by completing challenges like races, stealth missions, catching an evasive rabbit, or finding enough hidden objects.

This game is made by a solo dev and he’s very responsive to feedback so be sure to send him some love.

Yooka-Laylee

Yooka-Laylee

Yooka-Laylee notably became famous before it was even released, since it broke a crowdfunding record, and this accomplishment, due to context, was glorious on its own. This is common knowledge to many readers, but just in case, a recap: A bit over 20 years ago Rareware made a series called Banjo-Kazooie that became possibly the most beloved 3D platformers of all time. A third game was announced but due to Rare getting sold to Microsoft, delayed a while, and what people ended up getting was a fairly unrelated vehicle-building game with the Banjo license grafted on; worse still, it’s publicity and script constantly lambasted the original formula as outmoded. The game bombed, many staff left Rare, and this was already karmic, but then the rogues went on to twist the knife by forming Playtonic, launched a Kickstarter promising a new game that brought back the old BK style, and made nearly 2 million pounds in under an hour. As such a huge middle finger to those in Rare who betrayed old fans, Playtonic deserves great applause. By now, though, Kickstarter has become infamous for how making profits from appealing concepts alone allows developers to skimp on their execution, and though not without its good points, Yooka-Laylee continues that trend.

Huge, empty worlds that are gorgeous and exciting to explore for the first time, but are painfully tedious to scour for the last few collectables?

Only 5 worlds and a hub, but they’re all unnecessarily massive?

A bunch of annoying physics puzzles, racing challenges, and timers?

Hidden bonus challenges that make you want to tear your hair out?

Wait a minute, this isn’t Banjo-Kazooie. This is Super Mario Sunshine!

Seriously, Yooka-Laylee makes more sense when you look at it as a successor to Sunshine, a game that got just about as much hate as it got love. Like Sunshine, I feel that Yooka-Laylee simultaneously deserves all the love it gets, but also all the hate it gets. I haven’t felt so perfectly ambivalent over a game in a very long time. I had a lot of fun with this game, hence the thumbs-up, but I can perfectly understand why some people don’t like it. If you had a love/hate relationship with Sunshine, you can probably expect to feel exactly the same about Yooka-Laylee.

LABYRINTH OF TOUHOU - GENSOKYO AND THE HEAVEN-PIERCING TREE

where do i start on this game’s review? heck if i know but i’ll try to leave it readable

the fun i have had in this game exceeds that of over 99% of rpg games i have ever played the combat is excellent its kinda like active time battle but each time you or the enemy gets their turn the atb bars stop increasing until everyone who has their atb bar around 10000 or so had their turn then atb bars resume increasing up to 10000 then those characters or enemies have thier turn rinse and repeat

the difficulty with the bosses is legendarily hard even by dark souls standards you will die a lot of times and when i say a lot I MEAN YOU WILL DIE A HEAP OF TIMES (assuming if you dont over power yourself because lets face it overpowered characters negating the challenge is less fun then stepping on the edges of lego pieces barefoot) joke aside the some of the bosses will take every single bit of knowledge you have from this game and any other similar role playing games to even have a slight chance take it from me i have been party wiped so fast i didn’t even have time to say darn i got shredded and owned lol (i party wiped so many times though not once have a rage quit because of the boss’s difficulty it happens because i made the blooming mistakes that made the party wipe happen oh for those fans of a certain super hard rpg game im not going to say who it is but all you need know is a certain npc appears from that series somewhere in this game when i saw them i was like nooo….. can it you are you really them? no blooming way its them (yes it was them i can tell because i played a good bit of that game series myself

Nox Terrorem: Lost Souls

A slender game in 2021? Really? Anyways, it’s hideous. A set of paths which all look the same and you have no idea where to go. Slender just kills you randomly at a distance. A buggy and boring mess.

for me, nothing worked, if I used left mouse it went to desktop. I couldn’t pick up any documents so never got past the house. running made me feel sick and the overall experience was horrible. no menu for controls so not only could you not adjust the mouse sensitivity (which was far too high for me) but there’s no way to know what keys do what. refunded it. and for CDN $ 9.19 it’s just not worth it
