cat notebook

cat notebook

Like a walk through a museum, you move through art and the art moves you. Nobody can tell you how it should make you feel. But maybe by the end of the experience, the ordeal, you’ll leave the museum a stronger person. That is the beauty of Cat Notebook; there is no wrong way to play, no wrong way to go. At the end of it all is an audiovisual experience that changes you for the better, or for the worse. For those seeking deep introspection, you’ve come to the right place.

I’m not sure how to approach reviewing this game(?), so I suppose I’ll just see how my experience stacks up to the list of features in the description.

“• explore a cat notebook”

I definitely did that, so, check that one off.

“• many unique illustrations to look at and songs to listen to”

To be precise, there are 97 unique illustrations, and 97 songs to go along with each one. Accurate enough so far.

“• do cat-like things”

You can move around. You can meow, sleep, and sit. Seems pretty cat-like.

Lost Dream

Lost Dream

First, there was WORK TRIP. A short and simple Game in a colourfull World. Lighthearted and chilling with a nice Music. And so was the second Game HIKE. It was like that, too, but it added an Exciting Atmosphere.

Now we have the third Game of Morning Shift Studios.

Welcome to LOST DREAM.

At first,LOST DREAMS seems to be inspired by THE FIRST TREE, it feels like a Bow to it.

In both Games we have a wonderfull World, nice Piano Music and a Fox on the Search.

And i like it.

I love this game, though it honestly is tiny. It only took me thirty five minute to unlock all the achievements and play through the game twice. And the second time I was poking around, having fun. You play as a fox who is off to rescue his vixen. In your search you’ll travel across several colorful levels, jumping, swimming, and figuring out a puzzle.

I enjoyed it, but if you are expecting the scope or storyline on The First Tree, you might be disappointed. You are a fox, complete with cute little fox paws and swishy tail. The swimming and running animations are cute, and there are nice details like falling leaves.

It’s a neat little adventure game with a strong Y2K internet aesthetic. The pages are fun to look at and the puzzles are all pretty intuitive. Had a fun time. It’s free so the length is in it’s favor as well. Good job!

This is the least interesting of the three Oubey VR experiences. You just fly above a world real quick and it repeats. The other two had tinges of interactivity that made them much better.

Genuinely one my favorite gaming experiences. Extremely creepy and surreal specially when your nausea is low and you’re randomly flashed with eerie videos or images. A bit confusing sometimes because the translation is done by AI and since the game is so unknown (and Japanese) it’s hard to find information (in English). Definitely not for everyone specially with some of the gory imagery, but overall a really really good experience that I’d recommend to anyone who enjoys more artsy-abstract games and exploring visually interesting worlds.

Like a surreal playable artpiece filled with brainfucks and thought-provoking dialogue that somehow make you feel like nothing and everything connect together. There are so many rooms and secrets that probably give this game a +100 hour playtime. Just a reminder that a living, breathing human sat down and tirelessly laboured over making this. Hats off to you rentaka, amazing music too.

Rememoried

Rememoried

Rememoried is a decent enough game with some smart ideas that shoots itself in the foot with shoddy gameplay, which is always frustrating to witness.

The main gameplay mechanic is the ability to ‘rememory’ objects (mainly platforms) by looking away, meaning the world changes when it is not observed. That’s a good idea, but it doesn’t make a good game alone. Despite being compared to and tagged as a walking simulator, Rememoried is actually a confused puzzle platformer, where you spend half your time stuck on levels whose solution doesn’t make a lick of sense (BECAUSE SURREALISM!) and the other half on drawn out, poorly-designed platforming levels where the camera, the jumping mechanics and the hypercontrasted graphics all conspire to make you fall to your death for the umpteenth time in a row.

Summary:

Rememoried is a short adventure puzzle game about exploring the surreal world of dreams and memories. You might think this is just another walking simulator without any proper gameplay but you’d be wrong - the game is focused on puzzles and platforming.

All puzzles are based on moving or jumping, there aren’t any items to pickup or interact with. You just have to wander through the levels and find the way out. Many environmental elements are usually not stable and (almost) every time you stop looking at a platforms (clouds, for example), they change their positions.

Back Then

Back Then

Back Then is a yet unseen take in the videogame industry about an elderly poet diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease, dealing not only with how our elders and their families change and learn to adapt to this newfound unavoidable and inevitable loss of memory and identity, but also show players that there is more to these situations than simple forgetfulness as we age.

Thomas Eilian is an elderly poet and writer diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Bound to only move around in a wheelchair, he finds himself alone for what seems like years roaming an empty house. “The clock is ticking, the hours are going by. The past increases, the future recedes. Possibilities decreasing, regrets mounting.”

  • In-depth narrative and storytelling experience.

  • Creative gameplay mechanics related to Alzheimer’s and forgetfulness, where the character starts to remember (and forget) his past and present.

  • Inspired by real events and stories of people with Alzheimer’s and neurodegenerative diseases, told by family members and loved ones.

  • Focus on interactivity, grab, interact with everything and learn as much as possible.

  • Scientific breakdown via collectibles about Alzheimer’s.

This is a story about Time, Death, and Soul. It is a story about the mind, from the mind. It is a story about ignorance and forgetfulness.

Through this story we hope to make as many people as we can uncomfortable, but aware to the reality of millions.

Door2:Key

Door2:Key

Door2:Key was a pretty fun game. To my surprise there was a few places I found myself scratching my head and running in circles for a key or a puzzle you think, oh these are the same, and nope back to the start with you. Which can cause frustration to those solving it themselves, or the early players as there was no guide.

Only negative was not being able to disable background music. At the time I played the Audio options didn’t seem to do anything. After spending a few days last week running around Chapter 4 I wanted nothing more than to disable background music but nope. ‘Mute’ didn’t even do anything but it’s something the developer may fix after seeing this.

Hypnagogia 無限の夢 Boundless Dreams

Hypnagogia 無限の夢 Boundless Dreams

Everything about this was spot-on for me, and I was impressed at how it plays across the entire spectrum of aesthetic and tone without feeling like a mess. A game like this could have felt like a collection of demos, but instead it feels like a well-engineered rollercoaster that is at times cozy, lighthearted, and colorful, or dark, disturbing, and spooky enough that I had to take a break at one point during a segment that I wasn’t ready for.

An earlier version of this review compared the game to Broken Reality, and for certain surface-level aspects I still think it’s a fitting comparison, but as I kept playing I saw that the surface is as far as it goes. Don’t get me wrong, BR is amazing, but in the end it’s all a narrow range of a e s t h e t i c fan service, if you know what I mean. This game felt like it had the deeper soul, and I hope we can look forward to more from the developer.

really shallow, cliche and not interesting at all,,, no joke the previous hypnagogia was actually better… theres also the pointless, boring and basic platforming that at least distract you from the linearity and retardness of the worlds.. from a technical point of view was ok, the opening cutscene made me think the game was gonna be good but it totally sucked. The space level was the only good level and I wish it was 2 hours long and were the whole game (ignoring for the retard dialogues of some of the NPCs).. I don’t wanna sound rude but this was so retarded I actually suffered the last hour of the game, especially the ending level and cutscene, so pretentious, childish, dumb and cringy.. couldn’t deal with it

Metrico+

Metrico+

What at first appears to be a statistically average looking puzzle platformer (following the linear and predictable path from left to right) Metrico+ soon begins to experiment with your expectations. Skewing the results of your actions and forcing you to change your methodology in order to reach a satisfactory conclusion.

In other words - jumping for that platform may not go exactly as you planned.

Metrico+ is a puzzle platformer game with a simplistic appearance that is also compelling at times. The first couple of levels show some promise, but starting around the third level it begins to get a bit obnoxious. There is no story provided, so don’t be going looking for one. There are control issues (you can’t turn and shoot until you are fully turned around) that add a layer of irritation, but it’s nothing that can’t be adapted to. I got this from the Humble Bundle recently, and while I enjoyed it starting off, what got to me was the 2nd half of the game.
