This game is fantastic, get it, you won’t regret it. It has a little FTL and a lot of X-Com, and IMHO is faster and funner to play. If you like single-player, turn-based, strategic, tactical, team-based, isometric shooters, with a bit of pressure to keep you moving (ala FTL), e.g., running from the Federation Police after your big heist, then, for the price, you can’t beat this game. It is definitely a one-more-click kind of game and I stayed up three nights in a row until 4am playing. There are a few minor issues/bugs, which Oleg, the Dev, is fixing quickly in patches (three in just the first 14 days).

TLDR: Galaxy Squad is a multilayered, rogue-like space RPG with tactical turn-based battles. While it shows promise, lots of work still needs to be done.

  • I like the idea of “multiple layers” in gameplay. i.e. there is a strategic map layer, an exploration layer (space docks, where you re-supply and get quests, etc.) and a tactical combat layer. Not many games do this (probably due to the challenge and amount of work), and fewer do it well.

  • The LoS combat system is functional, but needs work and refining. Combat and survival in this game is HIGHLY dependant on LoS and moving from cover to cover. Ignore this and you will get your a** shot off. Often.

The short review……

An epic upgrade giving fans of the first game many requested features and priced for perfection based on the value you get back gameplay wise. Basically a business mgmt game set in ancient rome, this will test your budget balancing skills and planning ahead. The learning curve exists but if your smart its not to punishing to figure out whats going on. The game is such a dynamic upgrade to the first one that its a must own for fans of this genre. A lot of people have been waiting for a game like this and with the rpg and new tactical combat features its truly a gem among casual games. It adds so much depth of choice and strategic options with budget and gladiator mgmt along with the new option to fight yourself it almost knocks itself out of the casual genre which is why you see mixed reviews. Honestly those reviews are very unfair and treat the game like a AAA title from a huge developer. This is one guy who made a great game with a lot of features and options. It’s not meant to be battle brothers in ancient rome, it’s meant to be an upgrade to the first game and its a hell of an upgrade. If you want to manage a ludus this game is for you.

BLUF: If you always wanted to run a stable of detailed gladiators with RPG levelling you will like this game. If you are looking for X-COM-like depth in the tactical combat aspects of the game though, this isn’t nearly to that level. Dev involvement is swift and sure (huge plus).

There simply aren’t many gladiator simulators out there anymore…. the reigning combat king (especially for asymmetric multi-layer) is still the old BBS door game *Melee! (the exclamation point was part of the title)

Heroes of Might and Magic with an enchanted 5d20+5 sense of humor. If you decide to try this out, make sure to plan out how you spend ability runes from level one because runes seem to dry up once you start branching out your talent tree. Rage spirits get experience only from doing damage, which requires meticulous study in tactical micromanagement if you want your rage spirits to rain down mayhem in any semblance of actual destructive power (death really is your friend here). Armies are a non-renewable resource so save the best units for hard fights.

Introduction

King’s Bounty: The Legend is the first game of the King’s Bounty series where you take a role of an adventurer that with the right combination of troops and magic is going to save the kingdom from its doom. The game is an RPG with turn-based strategy combat style.

Gameplay & Story: 6/10

The gameplay in KB:The Legend consists of traveling through the world map, getting quests and gathering troops and then fighting enemy forces in a turn-based hex-strategy styled battles. The combat is really similar to Heroes of Might and Magic, however you are not going to build castles or a kingdom here and instead travel through a huge open world. The story is quite simple - you are the treasure hunter for the king and discover after a while a plot against the kingdom by evil forces and you are obviously the only one that can destroy them. The gameplay is however very fun in King’s Bounty series and it is enjoyable to be able to traverse the land almost free (sometimes a quest or a strong army blocks your progress) but since the world is so huge, you mostly have different possible locations where you can go to. There are a lot of different factions that can offer you forces so you have a lot of choice depending on what strategy you enjoy more in battles. The classes offered are also quite distinguishable so it is even fun to play through the game multiple times with different classes and armies.

This here, it is their cash milking machine, mind you as long as the gros is getting to GW i rly dont mind.

Just wish there was something you could invest money in without being a whale. a sub that didnt suck for instance , a better matchmaking system ? in fact id prolly buy single player cmpaigns if those gave me good cards instead of the RNG.

The gem system is 5:1 a card being drawn as double only gives me 1 5th of its cost in the gem shop.

Trouble is new factions cost gold primarily to get and at first only 200 coin crates are available not the more reasonable ones.

The game throws you into some pretty cool fights when you first start the game.

They have cool enemies and you are getting rewards and you think maybe there is a cool story and hope this continues to develop and allow you to adjust your deck as you go through an amazing campaign story mode.

But no…It just ends abruptly out of nowhere and the game is pretty much a grindfest or pay wall from that point onwards. You try to play a friendly match, you get in a game with ai or players. Players have better decks than you because you are a noob who hasn’t paid any money to buy all the cards and build better decks or grind for hundreds of hours, so you get pummelled because the matchmaker is trash like most card games.

So I’m about three hours in now, and actually having a lot of fun. Its not as deep as I hoped, but still a really solid squad manager for a detail orient statistic loving player.

As for gameplay, it took me a few tries to get a decent start going, but on the fifth try I got it right. I am now “Rotwound,” a rather arachnoid ex-fighter. Gonna say, not too fond of the gladiator stylization, but whatever, pushing on. Rotwound opened the game by hiring a vorcinne (the hairless spider dude, ‘cause there’s also a spider yeti, yeeeah) scout who can hire other spider dudes at the beginning. The scout found a couple ok fighters, but most importantly Slowsin (the spiderdudes have rather menacing portmanteaus as names) who is an excellent melee fighter with loads of damage and accuracy, but not much hp. Slowsin is given an axe and medium armor and an adrenal booster, and sent out to fight. This he does with great joy and abandon. Fairly quickly “Slowsin” racks up ten kills, and is renamed “Executioner,” for reasons “Rules and Guidelines” does not let me make a joke about. Executioner has now led Rotwound’s gladiator asteroid team of spider dudes to 14-0 victories and speicializations in axes, medium armor, and adrenal boosters. The old spiderdude scout found another few badass spiderdudes, and then went to recruit what are apparently constipated trolls. He found a very scary constipated troll, who is now training to be more scary. This brings the story of Rotwound and Executioner to day 90, at which point they have not lost a gladiator, fight, or limb, because apparently Rotwound can live up to his name ‘casue amputations are a thing. I think. There’s something about cybernetics later on. Gonna keep updating this as I play for while.

TL:DR - If you enjoyed the first game, you can’t go wrong with this sequel as long you’re OK with the Sci-Fi setting instead of the Rome setting. (Though the Rome setting is coming soon per the Devs)

I’m not much for writing reviews on the steam website, but felt perhaps this one was a good time for that cause I’ve been enjoying the dedication the Devs have given to this game post release so far. Overall if you played the first game, called Age of Gladiators, then you will encounter features very similar to that with this one.
