Blade and Sorcery

120 hrs in, multiple wonderful updates, even a youtube video I made on it- I cannot recommend this game more. The modding scene can add pretty much anything you want- from dark souls weapons, to a m4 rifle you can build and customize by hand (well, depending on your game version due to modders needing time to update).

But even with that, I find myself removing my mods every now and then just to experience the base game again, it’s so good. I love what I saw one reviewer say, good for those in retail. Definitely a plus for me being in mostly customer service XD

This game needs some time to get used to. But once you are familiar with it’s mechanics it is great fun and allows a lot of experimentation. Also mods are supported and only get destroyed if cool new content is released. The new dungeon mode also offers a lot of new value.

Given how long I’ve played this game I feel like I just am obligated to write a review, and might I say that this game is one of the best games that VR has to offer in it’s current state. The map is very large, and quite beautiful I think honestly, the landscape is very surreal and dreamlike. It’s also been the closest thing that I really have gotten to feeling like I am flying in VR, especially when you’re starting off, that jump off a big mountain feels like when you first start to go down a big drop on a rollercoaster.

Cons:

Okay, yes, I’m starting this review off with cons. Everyone starts with pros, as if that’s what we want to see or hear. If I want to try something new, I like to see the negative reviews to see just what I won’t like about it. I already know what I want out of it, so I need the cons.

Cons:

Only up to 4 players

No PvP

Controls take some getting used to, and no way to change them without third party hacks

Graphics are basic

No Level/world editor - yet

Lack of content (let me explain)

Pros:

Forget all that - this is fun.

I Cant get enough of this game, No matter what I play for vr I always come back to this game. However I have played this game enough to know its faults;

~ On hardcore mode at least I have noticed after wave 25 the game looses its coding on enemy fire. The droids will fire randomly without a warning sound, as well enemies that have died do not officially die, their firing script is still active, I have been shot by dozens of random lazers that had no drone attached to them and i had just killed them in the same location of the mystery shot.

As a Top 30 Global score holder, with 5 Top 10 scores, I have to say this is my FAVORITE VR game, hands down!

It’s got everything you could want as a single serving VR game to demo to friends and family, but it’s so incredibly deep with its weapon mechanics that you always have improvements to make.

I have a whole youtube series for this game!

I play this game so much and it’s been my absolute favorite game to try and master as well as to show off to VR newbies.

If you wanna learn how to get better at this game, check out my Way of the Laser series on Youtube, with new training runs every Thursday!

Great game. 8/10 at least.

EDIT: The game no longer costs $10, it’s still worth it though!

Should you buy it?:

This game was one of the main reasons I bought a VR headset, I am not disappointed. The player counts are amazing at all times of day, you’ll have no trouble finding a game. I have a GTX 1060, but this game can POTENTIALLY run on as low as a GTX 950, so don’t worry. The control scheme is easy to grasp and since I set my height correctly I don’t get motion sickeness from smooth turn/run. The firearms function accurately, but I can’t say as to a realistic feel. (I’ve never shot a gun) The graphics are good for a game with a small dev team that is working on VR, nothing to write home about but they do feel CSGO-like. The game is $10, I got it on sale for $5. If you have VR already, get it.

Sheesh, where do I even start a review on this?

When you haven’t played it, or seen someone play it (or even if you have seen it), it doesn’t look like a whole lot. Fight some guys, spray some blood, maybe slice off an arm or two, get beaned in the noggin and pass the Vive to Jeff.

Ho ho ho, no no no. I don’t know what it is about this game, but there is always something to do. There’s always a new way to fight, a new way to approach the battle, and a new experience to be had. It’s a single arena (there are now three arenas, a small one, a large one, and a night variant for the small one) and you fight an (unending, if you want) army of identical muscle-bound gladiators who constantly smile like they’re strangely aroused and talk smack while a giant metal fist is hurdling at their squishy, unprotected flesh. You know what they say about judging a book by it’s cover– Well, I guess that doesn’t really apply here because it’s not a book and doesn’t really have a cover but you get the jist. If it was a book, the words on the pages would change every time you read it, and still be equally as exciting.

MINIMUM PLAY AREA IS NOT A SUGGESTION

I bought this game thinking the “I punched a hole in my window/TV/Monitor/Wife” thing was a meme. It’s not. As of playing, I have had to clean my floor of broken glass twice, and we now evacuate the play area of all life before starting.

I know what you’re thinking: “I won’t flail around like a moron”

No. Even with swift, conservative strikes, I only managed to somehow pinpoint hit my drinking glass twice.

“I will stand with my back to one side and throw my strikes to the open end of my play area”

POLYBIUS

POLYBIUS

I love this! Such simple and compulsive gameplay. Totally immersive in 2D - I haven’t got an Oculus headset - its a finely tuned audiovisual experience that tugs at your senses, while also lulling you into a trance like uber-state of feeling the force. Rushing you headlong into bizarre abstract environments that seem to stretch endlessly before you.

I love the way it gently slips you in at the shallow end encouraging exploration of each level and its diverse elements. You soon discover what makes good things happen and what does not.

Real player with 101.1 hrs in game

POLYBIUS is an arcade tube shooter within a light synth. Avoid obstacles, shoot what you can and fly through the gates to increase speed and raise your multiplier. In later levels you’ll find platforms that give you air time instead of the gates.

From the trailer I had my doubts whether I would like this game and I waited a year after the release before purchasing it. End of 2019 the prices of both Minotaur Arcade Vol 1 and Polybius dropped massively and I decided to just buy both. As I expected I struggled at first and I had to learn how to play and get a feel for controlling the ship. Fortunately you can fine tune the controller in the settings.

Steel Crew

Steel Crew

I had fun with this game and i really wanted to like it, but spending more time on trying to gather people to play with, than actually getting to play the game just frustrated the shit out of me.

One probably has heard that all games are more fun with friends? And putting a crew together with 2 friends in this game is indeed be fun! Sadly even when you do that you will probably encounter the issue of not getting anyone to fight against. If you are lucky you maybe get an enemy tank that is badly undercrewed as opponent. Luckily the developer had the idea to add AI tanks to fight against, too bad they shoot like storm troopers and wouldnt hit the wide side of a barn. So before you spend your money, please keep in mind that this is a multiplayer game with a chronic lack of players. According to Steamcharts.com there were 5 players online at average in the month after release - with it declining further currently.

Steel Crew is a very fun VR game for anyone who wants a REALISTIC game where you play as a tank crew in world war 2.

When I say realistic I mean in mechanics of how the tanks function. Your driver has two sticks that control each sides treads and must manually shift gears while driving. The gunner rotates small valve style gears to adjust the gun and turret and has a magnified gun scope to aim with. Your commander can pop out of the cupola on the top of the tank to get a better view of the tanks surroundings but be careful enemy gunners and fire a coaxial machine gun.

STRIDE Multiplayer

STRIDE Multiplayer

STRIDE Is one of my “Must Get” recommendations for VR enthusiasts. If you like STRIDE, you’ll certainly like STRIDE.net too! The base game was wicked fun, and now you can have even MORE fun with friends! That’s like, two games for the price of one! Even unfinished, this is an experience worth experiencing. Now you can chase your dreams AND strangers on the internet! And things are only going to get better from here on out.

Real player with 39.8 hrs in game

so good. Not as many bugs as i would expect. minor glitches with some mechanics but this add on multiplayer for stride is amazing. Only in Alpha rn but soon will be fully released with what seems like a ton of possibilities. Many updates happening for this game every week meaning the devs really care for this game and i can say its great top be part of the stride community. Which also let me mention the community is great. Havent had a toxic gamer in this game yet. This could easily become vr game of the year.

“BWAINS!!” Grumble GRRB GURK GRAK

BANG BANG BOOM EXPLOSION PEW

Zombie Training Simulator is exactly what it sounds like; Its a preparation for the IRL zombie apocalypse - except with a twist: Its a ton of fun! The graphics are simplistic, yet detailed and polished. Although they are not realistic, the game is still highly immersive. Because the zombies are cardboard cut-outs, the game allows you to enjoy the same fun that a bloody, gory, zombie, shooter game gives you, without all the blood, guts, and horror (Although it can be very startling when you turn around and see a zombie you were not expecting to be there, #CardboardJumpscare).

Real player with 14.8 hrs in game

My favorite for gun mechanics. This is basically a target range shooter or a wave shooter depending on which mode you play. You basically just shoot paper zombie targets but in one mode they will advance on your position and you can use all sorts of novelty items like lanterns and grenades to take them out. You even get a katana. That’s pretty freaking cool. You can even alter the grip angle so if you are a 1911 guy you don’t have to adapt to shooting a Glock (that will make sense to the people it was inteded for). Loads of fun and easy to grasp the concept of. It’s been a hit among my friends when they come over to play. It’s a lot easier for first time VR users than some of the more elaborate games and I still keep coming back to it for workng on pistol skills. If you are looking for a serious wave shooter or FPS then you’d be better off with Sairento, Onward, or Overkill VR. If you want to shoot targets, I like this over Lethal VR.

ive seen many now that cant even start the game with what ever headset they have. valve index. htc vive cosmos (me) quest 2. ive had a blast a while ago but now i cant even start the game. so i would recommend this game until its fixed. loved this game but rn its a BIG ISSUE!!

Pretty good zombie VR game with a decent story. I think it would make for a great first time experience for new VR players and still enjoyable to old time users. Crafting and gathering, action, and slight jump scares. You can choose to go straight through the story or take your time to look around, but the game does get harder as the days go by. Definitely one of the better VR games currently out there but would still recommend getting on sale.
