Splatter - Zombiecalypse Now

Nice little shooter, with surprisingly detailed world, Sin City inspired cutscenes and funny dialoque

Having just finished the main story on Nasty-difficulty, the highest you can get on the first playthrough i think i’ve seen most of this game. Maniac difficulty next, you will unlock it after finishing the game.

Top-down shooter, plays like you’d think it shuold. Only thing that bothered me in this was how the screen went black and white when my health was down. It made enemies sometimes hard to see, and my cursor was lost there as well because there’s a lot happening at times on the levels. Other than that, it was a cool effect. Few deaths because of the unclear screen, but nothing too annoying.

With an assortment of top-down shooters to choose from, Splatter is a gem.

With the exception of one level segment and (to my knowledge) a bug only I’ve encountered thus far regarding the final boss, there aren’t many flaws to be found in the game beyond those that are minor (occasional spelling errors in the dialogue and item texts being the only thing that stands out readily and even then they aren’t hindering enjoyment of the game overall).

Dreamworlds has managed to nail exactly what makes this particular type of game fun to play vs. turning it into an interminably difficult chore. The dialogue and art-based cutscenes don’t drag on longer than they need to, leaving plenty of time to enjoy soaking multiple parts of a level’s floor with the blood of enemies.

Halo: Spartan Assault

Halo: Spartan Assault

I’d say that this was a good run. It really made me spend some hours into this game, especially as a Halo fan.

Halo: Spartan Assault is a Top-Down Shooter that is a “prequel?” to Halo: Spartan Strike, and as noticed by the gameplay, it is significantly different from all the other Halo First Person Shooters you all know in love. But it is still considered a Halo game in my standards and it definitely deserves some recognition.

As with the story, you play as the characters that are seen in Halo 4, Spartan Palmer and Spartan Davis. As it takes place before the events of Halo 4, you’re met with a series of missions in each specific Operation. There are 5 missions in each Operation and there are a total of 6 Operations altogether. Depending on your pacing of the game, it may take you less than a day up to a couple of days at the most to complete this game, depending if you’re getting the achievements or not.

Tl’dr version:

**A fun and responsive top down shooter. Bizarre design choices and a weak story does not stop me whole heartedly recommending this game to anyone who likes this kind of thing. If you’re a Halo fan you probably already own this. I would however advise buying this on a sale if you can help it as the games replay value is limited.

Now if MS would hurry up and get Halo over here on pc, that would be nice.**

Elaborated version:

Halo Spartan Assault is a isometric top down shooter brought to you by ‘Vanguard games’, who holds reasonable pedigree, as they made the well received title ‘Gattling Gears’, another top down shooter.

Best Miner

Best Miner

Lucky me gets to write the first English review for “Best Miner”, which is a 2D top down retro pixel arena shooter where you shoot a bunch of samey NPCs. The quality is quite simply garbage as the screen shots show.

They chose to use obsolete retro pixel “art” as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It’s unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. Resolution and controls are locked. These flaws push this game far below minimum acceptable standards for PC.

This game should be right up my alley: real-time strategy resource management bullet-hell tower defense! And you can program drones to do your bidding and expand your empire! Unfortunately, this premise falls flat due to poor drone AI, rendering the game too tedious and difficult. I had amassed an army of drones to capture the next base, but the AI is programmed to move in a straight line, and in a level design that has obstacles and bottlenecks, the AI is not savvy enough to “go around” so I was left with half my army trapped against the wall. Redirecting them to a new target didn’t do anything. So I stood useless and overwhelmed by incoming enemy attacks. Replayed the same level several times and kept running into some variation of the same problem.

**== ** Use farts, sharts, and hurl to move around and devastate your foes!

**== ** Release weird and gross abilities to attack, defend, and control time!

**== ** Dodge explosions, environmental hazards, and insane gun fire from military goons and mutant freaks!

You, Carl Bung, once lived a happy, content life of guzzling energy drinks and slamming pizza pops, wasting away on your couch in your disgusting, roach-infested apartment. That was, until they took you.

As part of a human enhancement project, a covert unnamed division of the US military began their trials, on you, subject 21. They cut, and injected, and drained, and spliced, granting you unexpected new abilities. Gross abilities. But, no normal human could survive the kind of physical trauma that you have undergone. In fact, your butt is the only thing that even works on you anymore.

Realizing that you won’t make it out of this alive, you resolve to make them pay for what they’ve done to you. You will use your powers against them. Take them all out. Every. Last. One. This project needs to be shut down for good, and you are the only one who can.

  • Use your butt to move around and destroy your foes

  • Unleash viscous, disgusting attacks

  • Slow time to get the upper hand

  • Dodge insane, relentless firepower

  • Survive, and spray
