Lucah: Born of a Dream
So. Lucah: Born of a Dream is hands-down the best character action title I’ve ever played, and a game I will easily place near the top of my GotY list for 2018. Here’s why.
Gameplay
Lucah’s gameplay is absurdly polished, not much by indie standards, but for character action/action adventure standards period. The systems in place all feel incredible to use, and feel very meticulously crafted and refined to cater to a variety of different playstyles. Not only does it pay (incredibly good) homage to games like Bayonetta, Dark Souls and Hyper Light Drifter by means of it’s combat and general gameplay, I would happily say it gives them a run for their money.

This is the only game I’ve ever backed on kickstarter using my own money so far. I told myself I’d wait until the game released to actually play it but when the developer sent me my beta key I immediately launched into playing it and kept going until I finished it. What you need to understand about this game going in is that it’s not the game you’re probably expecting from its packaging. You see a stamina bar, experience that doubles as currency, checkpoints that heal and allow levelling up, and you probably go to “oh this is a soulslike” but the reality here is that it’s more in line with a character action game. The soulslike mechanics are more like a flavoring to the bayonetta/DMC/metal gear rising sort of feeling you’re going to get from this game’s combat. The control scheme is even nearly identical to that of Bayonetta’s.

Modest Hero
Slow short game. Mildly interesting. Prolly should be $3-5 not $10.

Upsides:
Surprising ending that brings a smile to your face
Appropriate sounds and music for each chapter
Nice aesthetics
Easy-to-learn controls
Not a lot of replayability
Downsides:
The end is not a happy ending
Some chapters can be hard, repetitive and nerve-wracking. I even found one a bit scary at times.
Conclusion:
Overall, the game is interesting and well-made, however, I felt that it is too expensive where I live. Since the price of this game can change depending on where you live, I would advise any potential buyers to check whether such a game might interest you, and if so, whether or not you think that it is worth the price.

Odium to the Core
This game if f….n awesome. I love what they do with the music, at times it feels like you are in an interactive audio visualizer. You die a lot in this game, but you are thrown right back in, and when you finally manage to cross that crazy section that seemed impossible, it feels great. In some ways, it’s like A Crow in Hell on steroids (it’s a flash game where you also have to navigate narrow corridors and avoid all kinds of contraptions, but the mechanics is a bit different). I like this game more, though.

A great runner-type of game with an excellent presentation, tight controls, and awesome music. What i can say about this game that makes it different from the others of his genre, is that the levels are very narrative. I mean, you dont play this kind of games for his argument, but the levels evolve in some great narrative ways, like if they were telling you a story, and this accompanied by the execellent music, makes the progression through them very intense and epic. Its a weird feeling considering the genre it belongs but its truely what i feel and i think this is amazing.

SwarmVR
The game we wanted to play.
SWARM is a fast-paced, arcade-style grapple shooter, with quick sessions, bright colorful worlds and globally competitive leaderboards that will take you back to the glory days of Arcade Games.
Armed with just a grappling hook and your handy pistols, you’ll be plunged into a flow state as you grapple, shoot and battle your way to the heart of the SWARM before it’s too late. Twitch reactions won’t be enough to carry you through, you’ll need to think strategically and plan your next move to stay alive. Intense. Demanding. Exhilarating.
The Godbeast
It’s a decent game, but lacks polish. It takes clear inspiration from Dark Souls and the combat is like a simpler, rougher version of Souls', though with its own tricks and flourishes such as some Shadow of Colossus style fights. The game’s greatest strengths are definitely its intense, brooding atmosphere and its striking art style, so if those appeal to you I would recommend it. Despite its flaws (it did crash a few times, but the game saves often enough that it wasn’t a huge issue) I enjoyed the game enough to play it to the end.

The Godbeast is a unique and rather ambitious action game drenched in atmosphere.
You play as an outcast son of the ex-ruler of the city, come for vengeance to take their place as head of the city. It doesn’t sound all that unique from that, but the modern gothic feel, with this idea of an old family of rulers in this setting struck a chord with me.
The game play is half soulsborne (you can attack and dodge, you have a stamina bar etc…) and half shadow of the colossus (climbing the eponymous Godbeasts and taking them down) and both of these are executed well, though things like animations are a little stiff (which makes sense for a team of this size making a game this way). There are also mini-bosses to find (these and other points of interest are marked on the compass at the top of the screen) for upgrades which make you explore further if you want to take them down.
