Gewevo : Interstellar

Gewevo : Interstellar

Hi, with no money and only goodwill, I embarked on the game creation adventure this year with Unreal Engine 4 part-time. Despite the difficulties and my lack of experience, I decided to make one of my childhood dreams come true.

What is Gewevo : Interstellaire ?

It is a real-time space strategy game inspired by the universe of Gewevo where you have to develop your planets, colonize others and conquer the last. There is also a more wargame oriented approach to some aspects of empire management. To put it simply, this is it.

What is Gewevo ?

Gewevo is a science-fantasy univers and a tabletop RPG originally (findable on Lulu) which is expanding regularly with novels (also found on Lulu and Wattpad) and now a video game.

Why that strange name of Gewevo ?

Why not.

Why such simplistic graphics ?

Because I have no talent for it.

Implemented features

  • Random map generation ;

  • One race with one faction ;

  • Construction of buildings on planet ;

  • fleet and ship production ;

  • Tech tree ;

  • Division customisation (HoI4-like) ;

  • No microtransaction.

Planed improvements

Starlight: Defence Command

Starlight: Defence Command

This is such an addictive tower defence game with some features I’ve never seen for this genre of game before. I was invited to be an alpha tester on this game. It’s got an 80’s Tron vibe for me, but with some epic music and sound effects. Very configurable towers, and more interest that a kind of repetitive TD app game, with proper missions rather than just the same level over and over.

One of my favourite aspects is that the levels have a kind of “fixed” duration (if you make it to the end of the level that is..) I like this because I’m one of those people who is motivated through my procrastination by playing games …okay I’ll just play Level 1 for 20 minutes…then laundry for 20 minutes…level 1 again…then something else I need to do in the real world. This really suits my preferred playing style for a game.

This is a more cerebral TD game in a genre that leans towards kuwaii aesthetics. Tower customization is probably the most detailed I have seen and it is pretty satisfying when you dial in an effective tower strategy. There is leveling up, so it is worth replaying early maps and it gives you a chance to try alternate methods. The story is interesting and told in text and can be ignored if you don’t care about it.

Developer responded to a minor issue I noticed within 24 hours. Definitely worth trying out if you like TD.

Eternal Starlight VR

Eternal Starlight VR

Yup. 20 hours. Still enjoying this.

Great place to hang out: Music, scenery, story (skippable, for when you’ve heard it), cool ship design, and options for ship upgrades are plentiful and cool looking in their own right. I love a place with a low-key theme, in which epic battles are played out – much better than chaos in every direction all the time.

I enjoy playing the “same” scenario (it has some random alterations) more than once because this game allows for multiple strategies. It’s fun to win one way. Then think of another approach to try and work out how to win that way, too. In formation, or not? Multiple ships, or one very well equipped ship? What are those little fighters really good for?

This game is a good example of what I always wanted in VR. Omnipotent view of a 3D battlefield and the ability to RTS the crap out of your enemies. The controls feel good and the combat and ship mechanics all seem very nice. So I would recommend this game just for those factors. Overall, the story plays out balanced and difficulty ramps up appropriately. By the time you get into larger combats later in the campaign, with more ships at your disposal, the VR controls really get a chance to shine.

Each planet hex is randomly positioned and rotated at the start of each match making invasion a challenging prospect for armies brave enough to land on them.

Eximius: Seize the Frontline

Eximius: Seize the Frontline

In late 2017 I came across a RTS-FPS hybrid genre, it has been sometime since an actual development of a video game in this genre and pretty rare too. I soon found out who the team behind who design and craft out this game. I wanted to helped out and so I did as a volunteer community testers in the early days of EXIMIUS.

I loved C&C Renegade and this game was like the missing puzzle in C&C Renegade where it was suppose to have RTS-FPS hybrid. It was heavily inspired by Battlezone II and the cancelled video game called “Tiberium”. I myself was also a modder , knows that making a video game or a mod is require a lot of resource & manpower. With constant Q&A and R&D is not easy

Real player with 3209.1 hrs in game

Explaining the game

Eximius is an asymmetrical 5v5 team-oriented game that combines both the FPS and RTS genres. Unlike most hybrid games that are simply either an FPS with RTS elements or visa versa, Eximius implements both genres equally and in their entirety.

The RTS side of the game implements all of the features of a traditional RTS game like base building, training units, researching upgrades, using unit and commander based abilities along with map and resource control. There are 3 resource types the commander utilises: Credits, Energy and Supplies. Credits are your standard general purpose currency, they’re used for most things and can only be gained through resource nodes on the map. Energy is the more advanced resource used for upgrades and higher tier units, this can be obtained through resource nodes and commander built power plants. Credits are needed for the use of abilities and some unit upgrades, they can only be obtained through resource nodes. Much like Company of Heroes you can reinforce resource points by setting up, depending on faction, an armoury/mule near the point, this will increase the resource income of that node and make it so the node cannot be captured while the armoury/mule is reinforcing it. Both factions within the game are divided into 3 sub-factions similar to the likes of C&C3 and C&C Generals: Zero Hour. Each sub-faction has unique abilities, units, unit variants and research which allows for a considerable amount of options for the commander. These options are only further expanded by the unique interactions between each unit/ability and the players on the ground.

IRON GUARD VR

IRON GUARD VR

Awesome game thus far. Playing with Standard HTC Vive, and just to be fair, I am a big fan of Tower Defense genres.

Just a note of caution to all HTC Vive players, the controls are not very well laid out for the standard Vive Touch Controllers. In order to activate the two (2) Super Weapons in the game, you need to press up on the Touch Pad, which very rarely works. You cannot even get past the Tutorial until you are able to active the Super Weapon to show you are ready to play. The tutorial was the only time I was able to get a Super Weapon to actually work…and it took several attempts even then. In game, it is nearly impossible as far as I can tell, so I have never actually used a Super Weapon on enemies as of yet.

I played this via VR exclusively, I cannot speak to the non-VR enviornment.

Pro’s

• Addictive gameplay

• Visually appealing

• Great heavy metal music that will keep your heart pumping along with the action

• Sense of progression

• Can sit or stand

• Overall good controls and movement (with one exception in the Con’s)

• Doesn’t necessarily hold your hand

• Towers have a sense of increased power as you upgrade

• Some levels were quite challenging

• Feels like you’re in the middle of a big playset
