Project Hunter

Project Hunter

Although somewhat buggy, overall this was an enjoyable and addictive stealth/action game with some nice skill-based mechanics.

It was a pleasure to see your alien evolve from a small larva-like creature to a full-grown fire-breathing dragon.

The ending was a bit of rushed though - wish there was more to the story.

For what it is, Project Hunter is a very solid go at making a stealth game playing in the Alien Franchise.

Story: virtually nonexistent. You are an alien specimen that escaped containment, and your goal is to kill all enemies and evolve. I was somewhat annoyed that the opening scrawl was unskippable, but that’s just a minor inconvenience.

Gameplay: Solid, but limited. If you are familiar with the Alien Franchise, you may be perplexed that you start off as a small generic grub rather than the signature facehugger. As a stealth game, your best approach is to always attack enemies from behind, which is a one-hit kill regardless of your form. No particular surprise.

Sky Fleet

Sky Fleet

Welcome to Sky Fleet! You and your fellow recruits have been selected to take to the air in our latest and greatest military invention: the combat blimp. Our sacred floating islands are under siege from a vast fleet of rogue drones. Your mission is simple, recruit:

Take your blimp, go up there, and start blastin’ before it really balloons into an all-out war!

You won’t fight alone. Our engineers will follow your blimp force into the clouds, to establish a bridgehead against the drone menace and protect the ecosystem of our floating legacy.

  • Lead our forces into the skies and secure the floating islands before drones arrive!

  • Build extractors to collect resources, power generators to keep everything running, and farms to keep the pilotsunder your command fed!

  • Prepare for the inevitable assault! From the drones! The sky drones! DRONES!

The enemy will not stand, er, float idly by. These islands carry a wealth of resources that will supercharge the enemy drone production. We can’t let that happen!

  • Defend your mining operations with turrets, lots and lots of turrets.

  • Gather uridium from the wreckage to bolster the bridgehead and expand it.

  • Defend the islands and ensure precious duraphyte does not wind up in enemy hands. Tentacles. Appendages? They have tentacles btw.

Once your team’s blimps are bristling with lethal weapons, take the fight to the enemy. Destroy them all and let the scrappers sort them out!

  • Upgrade your blimp and put the fear of blue-screens in those dastardly drones.

  • Push back the enemy with your team back to their base where they belong.

  • Ensure a swift and definitive victory by taking down their base to eliminate the drone threat once and for all!

Scrapshoot

Scrapshoot

Scrapshoot is the true definition of a party game. While the AI is fun to battle against the game becomes a blast when you get your friends involved. I think this is the kind of game you hop on occasionally and end up sinking hours of fun into it. Super easy to learn, a variety of hat options, and the unique match modifiers offer a lot in variation of gameplay from round to round.

Don’t let this game go under your radar! I’d give it 9 scraps out of 10; super excited to see what the devs whip up in future updates!

GUILTY GEAR 2 -OVERTURE-

GUILTY GEAR 2 -OVERTURE-

Underated gem.

Played it back when it was exclusively on Xbox 360 back in 2006-7, Spent countless hours skirmishing with friends. I got extremely hyped when I saw it come to Steam and I just had to instantly buy it and replay it.

Sure, its rough around the edges, has wonky controls at first, not the best voice acting or fluid animation. But once you get the hang of it and your personal theme music starts playing when you’re taking control of the map, then it’s definitely worth it.

It’s not a fighting game like its predecessors and it’s latest titles. This is a MOBA before MOBA’s were even a thing in the popular eye. Think Smite with minion control.

Guilty Gear as an action RTS game. It really is mindblowing to me. When I first heard about this game, I was optimistic. I mean, Guilty Gear is a fighting game series! It’s not a RTS or Hack n' Slash series! However, GUILTY GEAR 2 -OVERTURE- blends the fighting genre with the RTS genre very well. Somehow, ARC SYSTEM WORKS has found a way to keep the feel of the 2D fighting games on a 3d battlefield. Whether it be a few left-handed-reverse-grip swings with Sol’s sword to keep the bad guys away or a well placed gunflame into a crowd of nerds, the fighting feels somehow…. nostalgic, as if I was playing one of the 2d titles in the franchise. And commanding units (referred to as servants in game) is a nice, smooth experience, so you don’t have to draw up a whole Mona Lisa painting just to get your servants moving. It’s as easy as select, click, click, done. Fighting alongside your servants is pretty awesome, especially when 4 massive armies collide in an area and it’s just chaos.

Kingdomfall

Kingdomfall

Imagine yourself in a world with mighty battles and powerful magic, where deadly fireballs fly over your head burning everything to a complete hell. Where drakkars full of soldiers attack from the sea, giant trebuchets destroy castle walls, burying many warriors under the debris. All of that while the are simple soldiers, going through mud, fire, blood, trying to fight, survive and even win the battle. You are one of those soldiers. That’s what the Kingdomfall is about.

One of the most advanced player-skill based combat system which consists of simple attacks, strong attacks, dodges, counter-attacks, shield strikes, many types of melee and ranged weapons, from bows to deadly magic - it is designed to not limit you in any possible way, if you’re skilled enough you will have you’re chance to win.

IMPORTANT NOTE The game right now is in early access and will include only part of the future features to ensure everything works as expected. You can take a look at how most of the upcoming features may potentially work on the official YouTube page. They will be moved to the release version one by one when ready. Because of that the game will be available here at half price until full release.

Manual Intervention VR

Manual Intervention VR

While it has to be said that ‘Manual Intervention VR’ is little more than a modern-day asteroid clone I still found myself enjoying it. There is a certain playability about it even if those interactions are basic at best. The controls are pretty basic as well, one controller to aim ad fire the missiles and the other to spin/rotate the planet. I have to say rotating it too fast does lead to a touch of nausea, but nothing too bad. Sure, the graphics are adequate at best, but what do you want for just £2.09? For that price, you get a pretty good arcade-style game that retro fans will love and there is even a touch of the anime graphical novel thrown in for good measure. While not exactly original it’s still pretty great fun for a cheap price.

Paper Mages

Paper Mages

A New Way to Play with Cards.

RTSSCG - Real-Time Strategy Systemic Card Game. The first game of its kind, with familiar elements.

A Deck Builder With Cards You Collect.

In Paper Mages every player starts with 30 cards, all the same. The more you play, the more cards you unlock, and those cards are added to your randomly built deck. A lucky player may even stumble upon rare cards.

Play as 10 unique races

Systemic Arena, Dynamic Gameplay

A Mage’s Duel Done Right.

Cards are taken from a flat playing board and thrown into a dynamic and systemic third-person arena. A Werewolf’s Moon card grants power at night, while the Medusa’s Gaze card will sway you from moonbeams at risk of paralyzation. Paired with special race traits, action cards that modify abilities, and skill in how the map is used, Paper Mages duels are unique every single time.

Features

  • Gain control of the 4 main card types.

    Damage, Action, Preservation, Constant.

  • Play in a dynamic arena.

The time of day, along with your location on the map, affects your race and the power of some of your cards.

  • Master 1 of 10 races, each with their own special attributes.

The Faergon has no worry of running out of breath underwater. A double jump and a slow fall are easy for the Falconite.

  • Collect over 130 cards.

Start with 30 cards and the more your paper mage gains victory, the more cards will find their way into your collection. Fill your deck with base, rare, and special cards. Some say there are other cards yet to be discovered, beyond the full 130.

  • Battle Online.

Duel other apprentices, one at a time, across the map in the main game mode. Either deplete your opponent’s HP, or find the 5 special trinkets to become overpowered and end the match. Another duel mode will come along in the future as well.

  • Experiment with Cards

Before casting a Fireball try the Borrow Flame Action Card. It’ll gain 1.5X damage for every flame in the room that you borrow. Cast a Moon-bound Action Card followed by Stone Shoes, leave your opponent floating in the air.

  • Unlock all of the collectibles.

Whether it’s a wizard’s beard, new eyes, or a different wardrobe, you can collect items to customize your paper mage.

  • Play with Keyboard and Mouse, or a gamepad. Start with the keyboard, or eventually learn to duel with a gamepad.

Start with 30 Cards, Play to Collect the Other 100

Base cards, special cards, & rare cards make up the collection.

The Shattered Hero & the First Paper Mage - Origins of the Duels

Every 5 years the Mage duels are held, and the trained apprentices set out to become graduates on the battlefield. Such an archaic thing. So many died proving themselves, increasing in ranks, and what a waste. Yet, for the longest time, nothing was done… Until Eltrest Grefaren. They thought he had lost his mind when his apprentice died in the duels. His apprentice Variscitan, an orphaned beryllian boy. Such promise he had, but more so, heart. Both apprentices perished that day in the tower fall.

On the next 5th year, and the next mage duels, Eltrest emerged from his towers, almost aged 15 years over. He showed them a new magic. He sat a piece of paper on the table and a glowing piece of Heliodor stone in the center, and then he placed a ring next to it. With his hand over the paper, the mage whispered a few words and his eyes glowed amber gold. The light from his eyes went into the gem, and the other mages gasped as they watched. The paper folded itself around the gem, and up to two little legs, then the paper folded two arms, and a head. The ring on the table floated up and over the paper man’s wrist, and stayed there.

Eltrest had created a small version of himself, a paper champion, a paper mage.

These little mages are linked to their creators. They think as their mage thinks, they act as their mage would act. They feel no pain, and can be made again and again. There was no struggle in adopting this new way of battle. That day, the two mages set to duel, learned how to create their own little champions, and no lives were lost.

The shattered hero, Eltrest, changed life for all the mages in the world.

There were some wizards who were opposed, how could a caster perform his best without threat of death? But that is a tale for another time.
