The Outer Worlds

The Outer Worlds

This is a well-made RPG which reminds me of the better days of this genre, when narrative and decision-making were the focus instead of meaningless fetch quests. The story is engaging, and the game does let you make several meaningful choices, not only in the main story, but in the various sub-stories, in the companion quests, and sometimes even in small side-quests. Each of your companions bring a fresh outlook and react differently to the decisions you make. While the skill trees are nothing special, and combat can be a little repetitive, the game scatters a lot small interesting details and lore bits around the world that allows the player to overlook these deficiencies. The world is beautiful and incredibly colourful, a much-welcomed variation from the hyper-realistic landscapes that are common to the genre. The game’s political narrative is also presented with great subtlety. While the social reality of this world is very apparent and omnipresent, the game never preaches the morality of it, and allows the player to choose their own standing.

TL;DR - Okay, but not as good as New Vegas

Solid RPG. Very nice quest line stories, with some really tough choices.

There is some charm and interesting world building, but mechanically it is a bit uninspired.

There are a range of guns and armour available, but they are almost all available from the start and there’s little reason to switch away from your favourite pea shooter. There are only a handful of mods for weapons and armour feels like they gave up designing them halfway through.

Resources such as gun parts, weapon parts, money, food, and ammo are so abundant, they might as well not be there. Same too with weight capacity.

8089: The Next Action RPG

Been testing this since literal first alpha build so take this with a bit of “bias salt” if you want, but my honest opinion:

  • Game is great. Both in VR and non-VR modes. (I played primarily in non-VR). It’s riding on 5089 success and it does so very well imo. Phr00t’s charm is strong in this one.

  • Butter smooth controls, little bit of jank here and there, but otherwise game is great. runs smooth, framerate is stable and fairly well optimised (literally ran on GPD Win2).

  • Gameplay is pretty good. It’s fun to annihilate alien bugs with stealth kills or just shoot groups of enemies with whatever shotgun-sniper-mortar automatic weapon you make. Plenty of good combat abilities to make combat even more fun.

As of writing this review I’ve only been playing for 10 hours, but I seriously could see myself playing this for many more. Don’t let the graphics keep you from playing this game if it seems interesting to you, because once you get used to it, the potato looking bad guys reactions start to give it a certain charm. The real reason to play this game is the gameplay and the core game loop in this is pretty amazing. Primarily it is a game where you want to make your stats and gear’s numbers go higher, and to do that you have to continually venture further into difficult lands. As you progress the enemies grow stronger and you face different and interesting challenges that change up your gameplay. You can’t just rush to the higher level zones and scrape together better gear though, instead you have to activate each new area, which unlocks all the vendors and quests for that particular difficulty level. Supposedly this continues infinitely, and I have no reason to doubt it.

Little Backstory:

Studio 369, after really dark practices by the original dev-team Human Heads Studios, took this broken game into their hands and are polishing it to the bits. Is it perfect? Hell no, it’s still broken in places, takes long time to glue everything together, demands patience from us. Is it fun? Yes it is, especially in co-op, multiplayer. Are they finished developing it? No, they are not, far from it. It just got into the second phase, the post-release one, with much more content to come and an ongoing polishing, and I cannot wait to see what this game will become when it gets 99% finished. It’s still a long way, yes, but we are halfway there, I’m sure about it.

Real player with 40.1 hrs in game

Before I begin let me state that while I do not currently recommend the game (2021-02-20) this decision is due solely to numerous game-breaking bugs. This game has a LOT of potential, but too many things prevent it from living up to said potential. I feel that a player who would normally enjoy the game would likely be raging right after his two hour return window was up the bugs drove him crazy.

First, combat is bad. Not overall. Combat is bad due to bugs. My biggest issue is when you use a power-attack or skill to knock an NPC down. Half of the time (more frequently if it is an elite NPC) the NPC falls down and then his state resets to standing. If this is an elite NPC not only is the NPC teleported to the standing position, but it is also already in a power-attack which cannot be dodged. This can kill you if you are low on life when instead you should have a chance to attack the NPC while it is getting up.

Ben 10: Power Trip

Ben 10: Power Trip

I can’t believe someone thought it was a good decision to have coop only accessible by talking to your npc buddy ‘Kevin’, who’s not all that easy to find on the map. Even worse, if that player hits the wrong button they wind up ejected from the game and you must search for Kevin once again to enable coop mode—even if he’s on the other side of the map! Another terrible aspect is the combat. There is absolutely no weight to your attacks which makes the fight sequences deeply unsatisfying. It’s like swinging at bags of feathers. I just don’t get how the developers could nerf the fighting to the extent that it is simply not fun when it is such an integral part the game. It makes no sense whatsoever. The missions are very repetitive, fetch quests, chases, kill a certain number of enemies or solve an easy puzzle. That is the gameplay in a nutshell. Overall, the open world does provide some decent platforming moments and neat areas to explore but I’d probably hold off for a sale as there are better games out there.

Real player with 36.5 hrs in game

The missions are repetitive and almost the same and the characters feels like bots and doesnt feel alive not to mention how dumb the quizzes are, the world is so dead and doesnt feel fun to go around and explore, also they picked one of the weakest villains in the entire show literally, It would have been better if the main villain was Vilgax or a punch of weak villains not one

ok that was the bad things the good things is the transformation system, you feel like the master of the omnitrix and u can do a mix of every alien attack by simply transforming into each one every 2 seconds to feel the nostalgia

FINAL FANTASY XV WINDOWS EDITION PLAYABLE DEMO

FINAL FANTASY XV WINDOWS EDITION PLAYABLE DEMO

I’m glad to get the chance to play this demo before the release of the full version. I’m really pleased with how Square Enix is promoting this game. I really do feel it’s been made for the fans. I can’t wait to delve into the full version.

+Positives:

+beautiful graphics (as expected)

+great, and instantly classic musical score

+fun and imaginative (as you would expect from Final Fantasy)

+engaging story

-Negatives:

-resource intensive; I don’t want to lay into them too hard, but from what I can see, I can’t understand why on earth even an i7 7700K/GTX 1080Ti combination would have a problem getting smooth 4K 60p. I just finished playing Assassin’s Creed Origins a few weeks ago, and it was absolutely gorgeous. Stunning. Smooth 4K 60p, no prob. Under 50 gb. Final Fantasy XV is said to be 3X the size (150 gb for 4K texture version) and from what I can see, still doesn’t look as beautiful as Assassin’s Creed. All I can think is, this game must be poorly optimized. As beautiful as it may be, as of yet there is nothing earth-shatteringly ground-breaking why this should make the 1080Ti struggle and still not look as good or run as smoothly as ACO. Curse of the early adopters. Hopefully as development of the Windows Edition continues, a lot of this wil be hammered out in the coming months.

Real player with 13.7 hrs in game

Almost 10 hours in the demo, few things to note:

-There are 3 dungeons but all of them are restricted and can only be entered in the full game.

-Cannot ride chocobos in the demo.

-You can use the first person mode by pressing the N key.

-According to the game itself, demo save cannot be used in the full game.

If you want to milk the full content of it, here’s a list of what you can do that isn’t very trivial:

-Clear all the hunts, you cannot accept the Lv15 hunt at hammerhead until you are a hunter Lv2 which requires to clear 5 different hunts (Clear one of each up to the quay).

Must buy if you like RPGs!

It’s nice to see a solid, well presented and very playable game of this type appear without the usual hype and fanfare, and get plenty of attention for its gameplay rather than its sexy heroine or Hollywood guest stars. These game has made it work. I can tell this is going to be extremely replayable. There is 10 heroes and you make a party of 4 at any one time. You also choose a starting hero and your first partner varies depending on who you choose.

Real player with 19.2 hrs in game

The game takes a little adjusting to but honestly is really enjoyable and reminiscent of a classic old school RPG. You can stat up characters, use equipment slots and seems like there are a lot of abilities just like you would expect. Not a huge story game but seems like a fun hack and slash.
