Overall playtime: 100+ on Epic Store version

Little Backstory:

Studio 369, after really dark practices by the original dev-team Human Heads Studios, took this broken game into their hands and are polishing it to the bits. Is it perfect? Hell no, it’s still broken in places, takes long time to glue everything together, demands patience from us. Is it fun? Yes it is, especially in co-op, multiplayer. Are they finished developing it? No, they are not, far from it. It just got into the second phase, the post-release one, with much more content to come and an ongoing polishing, and I cannot wait to see what this game will become when it gets 99% finished. It’s still a long way, yes, but we are halfway there, I’m sure about it.

Before I begin let me state that while I do not currently recommend the game (2021-02-20) this decision is due solely to numerous game-breaking bugs. This game has a LOT of potential, but too many things prevent it from living up to said potential. I feel that a player who would normally enjoy the game would likely be raging right after his two hour return window was up the bugs drove him crazy.

First, combat is bad. Not overall. Combat is bad due to bugs. My biggest issue is when you use a power-attack or skill to knock an NPC down. Half of the time (more frequently if it is an elite NPC) the NPC falls down and then his state resets to standing. If this is an elite NPC not only is the NPC teleported to the standing position, but it is also already in a power-attack which cannot be dodged. This can kill you if you are low on life when instead you should have a chance to attack the NPC while it is getting up.

Okay I just want to say that you who havent played this gme yet shouldnt be afraid because of the bad comments about this game. It is in an early development stage for North America.

This game is also 10 years old already and just a remake of the old version which was only being played in Asia.

About the bugs - those are true but as i said, the game is pretty fresh for north america and you should let the devs have some time.

the fact that it is just a copy of maplestory, elsword or soul guardian is not really true as i said that the game is really old already.

I’ll write a more in-depth review once I get further into it, but for a first impressions sort of thing:

This game has hilariously bad translations, in the “so bad it’s good” vein. You can still mostly tell what’s going on with the basic story (generic fantasy stuff), but I’m honestly having fun reading the dialogues, just to see all the broken English and try to make sense of it. If you’ve read some Korean manhwa, some of the jokes will make sense, but the (usually silly) humor translates so comically bad sometimes that it’s funny in itself. :)

Path of Exile

Path of Exile

TL;DR

This is a great game. Try it out, its free anyway.

Review:

Path of Exile is a ftp-Action_RPG game, released 2013 and being under continued development since then, having had multiple free expansions, leagues and content updates. It can be played solo or in a party with up to 5 other people on either soft- or hardcore.

Pros:

-Free to Play, only cosmetical purchases

-dark & gritty style fitting the story and lore

-insanely deep and varied skill system

-smooth leveling experience

Path of Exile is an incredible game written by New Zealand developer Grinding Gear Games. The game puts you into the role of one of seven possible characters, each with their own story, that has been exiled from their homeland and is forced to try and survive in the harsh and unforgiving terrain of Wraeclast.

Graphics: 7/10

Graphically, the game isn’t absolutely spectacular. In fact, it’s dark, gritty and quite gruesome. It sets the mood extremely well and really gives the image of a dark, foreboding land where the people are oppressed and monsters and bandits are rampant. Some of the areas in the game can be quite disturbing and really set the mood of the game itself. Although, as stated, it is far from graphically superior, the graphics and the design work really mesh well with this game and set the tone the whole way through.

WTF was that ending? Unfinished? Why make us play through all that and end it like crap?

I liked the game itself, didn’t really encounter any real bugs in my experience.

But I think this game gets so much hate because of the ending storyline. Like seriously, after all that time playing WTF was that ending?

I think I might have just joined this game at the right time. I didn’t play launch or early access. I kept an eye on the game and on the feedback it was getting back then and decided to wait it out. Then I basically forgot about it. A friend had the idea of giving it a look this week, and I’ve honestly been very pleasantly surprised. I played through the campaign and have now started on endgame. I definitely see myself putting a lot more time into this. If you’re a fan of this particular genre, you should give this a look now that they’ve had time to sort things out. My friends and I are all really enjoying it.

Dungeon Defenders: Awakened

Dungeon Defenders: Awakened

Alright, this is going to be a lengthy review, but I feel like this is needed. As you might have guess from my amount of play time, I’m recommending this game and find it to be a very good game. However, more context is needed. I’m reviewing the game in its current stat (January 2021).

Let’s start up with the most important thing: my recommendation varies depending on who you are. If you’re the kind of gamer that likes playing through the game’s story once and then move on to the next game, then you’ll probably like this game in its current state. The first campaign playthrough is really enjoyable and, for the most part, well designed and well balanced. Boss might be a bit hard though, but I’m sure the devs will rebalance them. Either way, it’s not so terrible.

TLDR: I recommend the game, it is fun, colorful and easy to jump into. Also, if you played DD1 you will get hit with a wave of nostalgia. However this statement from their Kickstarter page “Here at Chromatic Games, we all agree — let’s go back to the roots of what made the original Dungeon Defenders so amazing!”. They have not hit this mark, not even close yet. Additional info below.

I would recommend Dungeon Defenders: Awakened to anyone looking for a fun, simple (more on this later), highly addicting game. The game has enough for casual experiences and a bit of depth for the hardcore min/maxer in us all. Fighting waves and waves of enemies to get showered in loot is a lot of fun and never gets old. .

Updated Review

After more than 6,000 hours in this game the day has come to quit Dungeon Defenders. Easy to imagine that I’ve given a recommendation before. Unfortunately recent updates made by the Community Development Team (CDT) ruined the game - at least for me.

To my knowledge the CDT has been introduced to fix bugs, adding quality-of-life changes such as new content. Instead they also change core mechanics of the game such as RNG, towers and enemies. Things we were used for long 5 years are getting changed out of the sudden because certain individuals within the CDT are enforcing their changes more or less.

This game, despite being old, as stood the test of time. It’s a wonderful game from my childhood that still fun to play whenever I jump back onto it. It’s never a dull moment in this game, and will always hold a place in my hearts. That doesn’t mean I don’t know the bad stuff about it, because loving a game doesn’t mean you see only the good parts, but you know what the flaws are and you either love them or are able to look past them. Lets go naming some shall we?

Pros:

The combination of RPG elements with Tower defence is smooth and feels natural.

A quick one.

Liked:

  • This is ALO, hence flight. And magic. And Undines, can’t forget that. And

! White Cosmos… Ah her support skill is awesome

  • This is also AW. Not too familiar with that, but I like Pado. KYL is also awesome (those wing-flapping…)

  • Some missions (read: Infinite Dungeon) are actually a lot more fun in multiplayer

  • Playing as anyone (but

! Yui sighs. I wanted to try being

! a tiny pixie)

  • Control is controller-friendly (couldn’t go back to keyboard after playing on controller for 20+ hrs)
