Ghoul Castle 3D: Gold Edition

Ghoul Castle 3D: Gold Edition

Only played a bit, but it reminds me of the original King’s Field game for the playstation that came out in 1995 ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King%27s_Field_II ) which I have always been nostalgic for. I really wish more games like this would come out that were a little more nuanced.

Regardless the fact this game was made by one person really impresses me. I would love to learn how he made it.

The souls series is one of my favorite series ever, and this game is no different. ignore the hate for this game, its a good game, its just a 9 in a series of straight 11’s, one of the games has to be at the bottom and it just so happens to be this one, but that does not make it a bad game. I would recommend this game to all, including souls vets who have never played it and anyone new trying to get into the series.

Awakening The Light

Awakening The Light

Waking up in a room full of light, NoName #1892 is thrust into fighting countless monsters to stay alive without any memory of who he is or why this is happening to him. All he knows is that he has to keep moving forward. He has to keep fighting so that maybe, just maybe, he’ll find answers to his questions and find rest in a place that he can call home.

With a classic top-down style 2D game and a slight twist on the traditional RPG, Awakening the Light takes the familiar dungeon crawler and emphasizes the power of choice for the player to progress through the game. Fighting enemies and even bosses are now optional. However, don’t be fooled into thinking that it will be a breeze if you choose to take the shorter route!

Our Hero! First

Our Hero! First

I discovered this game by chance and I was really surprised by the story cause it is adventuros and charming and also funny (I enjoyed its sense of humor). I still have to finish playing but I am sure I will have a lot of fun. The characters are nice and some of them also weird (some of them looks so dumb lol), I like the style and it is evident that those who created the game put a lot of effort on details.

I reccomend it, it is really worth it.

I hope to play more games like this one!

Our Hero! First is an action adventure RPG (not turn based which I love). The sprites and animation are cute and fun and the story is original and not bad. I found no bugs or glitches while playing it and it has good frame rates. There are lots of different swords and enemies to fight, as well as lots of boss fights. The game doesn’t overstay it’s welcome and is enjoyable throughout the whole adventure of Our Hero. It doesn’t have tons of crazy features and is simplistic and easy to learn. I think this game is best for Younger audiences just going in to the world of RPGs, but is a good game for everyone who enjoys them.

DARK SOULS™: Prepare To Die™ Edition

DARK SOULS™: Prepare To Die™ Edition

Short version :

One of the best RPG games EVER made, that’s coming from a gamer who’s played over a hundred RPG titles in his life.

Dark Souls - 9.5/10

_Long Version :

Darks Souls….. so much to say about this game.

The game throws the player in a very difficult world, not just by gameplay standards, but plotwise as well. The story / lore is depicted in such a way that it’s never speaking to the player directly, but rather to your character, it never breaks the 4th wall by directly telling the player what to do and how to do it, only the basic attack move buttons are given to you at the beginning, and from then on, you’re completely on your own for the rest of the 50+ hour journey. Unless you get a co-op partner that is._

TLDR: Yes.

Dark Souls has issues.

While most entertainment experiences go out of their way to encourage your interest, it feigns indifference to your attention.

Introducing itself via bizarre and meaningless cut scenes you find your protagonist in a pretty dull dungeon. “Oh look, a man with a sword viewed from third person” you observe with a mounting sense of déjà vu. “No doubt I have a healing potion and a sense of manifest destiny somewhere in my bag too” and reach for the reset button/cyanide pill. But Dark Souls IS different - not that it is keen to show off. Like Usain Bolt winning the Dad’s race on sport day mumbling something about how he probably jumped the gun, Dark Souls’ initial coyness infuriates and astounds with equal measure.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

When someone mention this game, SOMEONE will install it. That lucky person is none other than me. How about the game you ask; and the answer is simple. It’s really, really bad. This game is made on source engine, which is undoubtedly one of the best and maybe the best engine at 2000’s. Half-Life 2 made on this engine. And Portal. And Team Fortress 2. You get the idea, if you are going to make a game with a gun - this engine is the golden choice.

But somehow and somewhat, Troika games blew it. The one and only purpose of this engine, which is developing first-person shooter game, and they really blew it all over. Just pick a gun and shoot something. It’s notoriously bad. When you minimize the game, the alpha layers of textures will be gone and all you left with black squares. It doesn’t have widescreen support. It doesn’t support higher resolutions. This game aged so bad that it stinks like a rotten cheese.

Amazing combat physics, and cool magical rune spells! Super gory and fun! I want more! This game has a lot of potential to be one of the best VR combat games, yet! …although, Gorn is pretty awesome..but this game feels like a realistic Gorn! My kids loved it, too..lol

Love the Viking lore! It would be awesome to have some ancient alchemy crafting..or maybe witchcraft!

Looking forward to the other features and RPG stuff the devs mentioned, too! ..especially VR weapon forging!

Pros:

-Combat physics is awesome, and makes you feel powerful

This game while still in development is a blast! the fighting in the game is spot on and it is very satisfying to block a attack with your weapon. Every boss at the end of an arena is new and exciting, and also drops a unique weapon making it worth the while. The spells feel powerful and are very VERY useful. overall great game and will continue to play it.

BioShock® 2

BioShock® 2

BioShock 2, the very definition of a misunderstood sequel!

And so here I was, about 4 years after I played the original BioShock for the first time (the one on steam was the second) and was left amazed by the marvellously haunting underwater world and history of Rapture, the time had come to see how the story moved on.

Truth be told, I am by nature negatively biased towards sequels of great games, since the result rarely is on par with the originals.

At the same time, from online reviews and friends opinions I was expecting a generally mediοcre sequel, not really bad, but a lot inferior.

Real player with 114.3 hrs in game

“Would I recommend this game” is a difficult question. The game itself is good. It may be the weakest installment in the Bioshock franchise to date, but the weakest installment of an amazing series is still pretty great. The reason I decided to say “no” is because of the amount of crap I had to go through just to get the game to play. I have about 16 hours of playtime logged, and I’m willing to bet a good half of it was spent troubleshooting, checking to see if various fixes worked, replaying segments and sometimes entire levels… it got old, fast. For a game that’s been out for so long to not have a single fix for everything is pretty inexcusable, especially one that you’re expected to pay for. I ended up looking up various guides on Steam and 2K’s support forum to get the game to work, uninstalling and reinstalling the game twice, uninstalling and reinstalling programs on my computer, tinkering with files, settings, and compatibility modes, even editing the .ini file itself. The most prominent issues I had were it constantly crashing shortly after starting the game (just when you get the rivet gun), on the loading screen to Siren Alley, the loading screen for Fontaine Futuristics, and near the end of the Fontaine Futuristics level. All of these required multiple attempts on my part to fix and finally finish.

Gothic 1

Gothic 1

Gothic is an open world RPG created by Piranha – Bytes, and today it’s a classic cult title recommended to everyone who enjoys a role playing game, or an action title for that matter.

The player takes control of our hero, the nameless hero, who just happens to be imprisoned and sent into the colony. For those who don’t know, the colony is the king’s solution to the war with the orcs. In order to keep extracting the precious ore from the mines, but saving manpower, his highness ordered the magicians to create a dome surrounding the ore mines. Convicts are sent in, and when trying to leave the magical barrier kills anyone who dares to cross it.

Ambition unfulfilled

Disclaimer – Steam version of Gothic is flatout broken. It is likely that you will have to manually install patches just to get the game started. If you don’t mind such a thing, a little tinkering is recommended as community-made fixes greatly improve the game’s performance on newer hardware.

Gothic is an almost 20 years-old open-world RPG created by German studio Piranha Bytes and published by JoWood interactive. The game stars a classic fantasy setting with a fun little spin to it. The kingdom of man is invaded by an orc horde, and the only thing holding the line is wondrous equipment made out of magical ore. To fuel the war effort, a penal mining colony is established – no matter the crime, the punishment is mining of ore. In order to keep the convicts dedicated to the task a magical barrier is created over the mining colony. A blue dome that allows all things to enter, but no living thing to exit. Long enough a steady stream of magical ore leaves the colony, a steady stream of supplies flows inside. If you ever wanted to see a fantasy adaptation of the 1981’s Escape from New York, this is probably as close as you can get.

The Vale: Shadow of the Crown

The Vale: Shadow of the Crown

I’m a long time gamer and someone who has seen pretty much everything when it comes to RPGs so imagine my surprise when I found something that offers a unique gaming experience! While this is an RPG, it’s also in a category of its own in terms of mechanics and that’s hard to do in this day and age.

Whether you’re blind or sighted the game has a lot to offer, it tests your ability to perceive the world through sound alone (use a headset!) Your success of failure depends on your ability to recognise the direction and distance of different sounds and respond accordingly.

This is a very unique title and I will start this review by applauding the concept!

If more games like this gets developed and expanded upon, I’ll be slightly less panicked by the thought of loosing my sight one day..

But I think there are things to improve on:

I feel like the difficulty is too low at first; those super slow charge-up roars, like every enemy is doing a Frostie’s commercial, it felt almost condescending. Of course, later on, when a thousand things are happening at once, they’re a welcome variety, but I feel like they should learn pretty quickly to not use such an over-telegraphed attack? But maybe that’s just a necessary narrative compromise for the game to exist, like the fact that we’re never attacked from behind…
