Grim Dawn

Grim Dawn

This is one of the best Action RPGs ever made.

You will not regret buying this, especially on discount which occurs pretty often.

The developer, Crate entertainment, supports this game even now, even when everyone thought the game reached its pinnacle of updates and polishing, there was a patch with tons of pages of fixes & changes for the better recently.

No microtransactions, no stealthy practices, this developer is simply what every other developer should be. And every expansion is massive and adds tons of content for the price.

To me the most atmosphereic of the ARPG games. I am weird but I just was never into D2 very much and I had the disk version and got the missing DLL bug after about 6 months..

But back to GD. Of course there is a grind. And I use that word properley because you are gonna have to do the same areas more than once to handle other areas. not too bad though. The sound is great, I LOVE the music but some dont. The effects are top notch imo. The graphics are gorgeous imo. But I dont own any next gen games so…

Hunt the Night

Hunt the Night

Hunt the Night is a retro-style action-adventure game that combines a fast, skilled gameplay with dark fantasy lore. Play as Vesper, a virtuous member of ‘The Stalkers,’ and explore the vast world of Medhram, a place filled with ruins and horrors. Go through dungeons full of gruesome enemies, fight challenging bosses, and use your arsenal of weapons and dark powers to take back the Night.

It is the 9th Age of humanity. The cycle of day is ruled by humans, the night one by horrid creatures. Despite its efforts, humanity is annihilated with every arrival of the Night.

A group of humans, calling themselves ‘The Stalkers,’ discovered how to use the power of darkness to their advantage and fought the Night. However, it was not enough, and with every new dawn humanity rose again knowing that, with darkness, comes extinction.

Humanity found the ‘Seal of Night,’ an artifact that allowed them to stop the cycle in an everlasting day. In exchange for a blood oath that The Stalkers were willing to pay, the sun ruled for hundreds of generations and, for the first time, hope was a beacon of light. Yet fate proved unstoppable, and they paid the ultimate price.

Now, as the Night starts devouring every single glint of light, Vesper, a Stalker by right and daughter of the traitor, will travel a dying land trying to save the last embers of humanity. She hunts in a race against destiny, as the shadows lengthen both in the world and in her mind.

Dash through enemies while you unleash your combos, use your weapons or destroy them with your dark powers. You can switch between melee and ranged attack in quick succession: slashing enemies with your sword and then dashing away to use your ranged weapons, avoiding enemy attacks.

Endure the ultimate challenge as you fight the ancient horrors of the Night that have been annihilating humanity over and over in intense boss battles. Learn their weak points, attack patterns and survive through the different combat phases as the battle gets more challenging and extreme.

Create your own build that will adapt not only to your prefered gameplay but also to particular bosses. Customize the upgrades of your arsenal and use the equipment that best suits your gameplay: Critical Damage, Life Steal, Poison, Close Combat, Firepower and more. Collect Sanguine vials, Crow Feathers, Moonstones and Noctilium to increase your stats and get ready to face the Night.

Explore Medhram in a combination of action-adventure and dark fantasy lore. Survive huge dungeons full of traps, enemies, puzzles and challenges. Discover all kinds of locations, from ancient cathedrals and libraries of knowledge to lost kingdoms and devastated floating cities.

Accept a hunt at ‘Crow’s Nest’ and track down the dark beast, find where it hides and hunt the most powerful creatures of the Night. After every completed hunt you will get rewards that will increase your health and dark energy bar.

Meet new characters and open full questlines that will vary depending on your actions: deciding to help them or not, finding them at their next location, failing to achieve the mission requirements in time… Everything counts!

Immersive and adapted music to every moment, boss and location, with the collaboration of Hiroki Kikuta, Secret of Mana composer.

Sands of Aura

Sands of Aura

Review written as of patch 0.01.02, 48 hours after EA release.

This is a relatively lengthy review, with significant details on many game mechanics and aspects, but I’ll stay as spoiler-free as possible.

First Impressions:

Having played 20 hours in this game, I’ve played through most, but not all of the content. In its current state, the game’s story Isn’t terribly long, maybe 5-6 hours, but there’s easily twice that much again in side content and extra areas to explore. Overall the game is very soulslike in gameplay, but with more than enough to set itself apart. Fun to play, fun to explore.

(This Review is based on 12 hours of gameplay during Early Access release patch + Patch 0.01.02, played on a custom controller, no experience on keyboard/mouse)

Sands of Aura is an isometric action RPG and does a great job at utilizing classic souls-like elements for its level and enemy design, combined with a sense of world- and island exploration akin to The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. Let’s get more into some individual aspects, their current status in this Early Access, and how I personally would like to see them being improved upon.

The Opposite of PoE!

Playing Path of Exile since 8/2011, it slowly derailed for me from hack and slash to build (or better copy) , buy , and now study bossfight phases and anounced abilities.

If you want to go back to the roots and frag some stuff 2 sec. after you logged in and dont want to plan heists or syndicates or 10 other timewasters - this may be your game for the next hours.

pro:

  • copied the right stuff from 20 other games for a unique feel

  • nice Itemsystem ( merge the stats of 2 items and upgrade items 40x 5% in Power)

This game is an ode to the original ARPG’s like the original Diablo. It’s a ton of fun and I’ve blown almost 10 hours into it already and seems like I’ve been playing for a couple hours tops. The drops are fun and even has lower level legendary and set items to loot and at just a bit over $10.00 is well worth the price. So far at early leveling I have one large tower like dungeon with

many different levels to explore and quests given in town with merchants and NPC. It’s a fun

game and I see a lot of mixed reviews. I think considering the price and the fun it’s well worth $10+

Eldest Souls

Eldest Souls

So I’ve played through this game now 4 times on normal difficulty and once on NG+. I got through the normal game in about 4 hours and if 4 hours of gameplay is worth 20 bucks to you, I’d say get it, definitely a fun first playthrough imo. The main issues really only become apparent in NG+ where it all falls apart unfortunately, thus not giving a whole lot of replay value despite the fact that only then do bosses get all their moves (which WOULD be kinda cool as a difficulty ramp if it only actually worked gameplay-wise).

Real player with 21.0 hrs in game

Don’t let the name deceive you. Eldest Souls is not another low effort soulslike. While there are similarities, Eldest Souls differentiates itself in many ways.

Combat:

Combat is the main focus of Eldest Souls, and it is done very well. I was initially dubious about mechanics like lifesteal being the only way to regain health, but I think it works to promote an aggressive and fast-paced style, along with the ability trees. While initially simple, essentially starting out as dodge, hit, hit, bloodburst with little strategy, the abilities and infusions quickly develop into something that requires just the right amount of thought put into it. This all adds up to a very satisfying system that rewards aggressive play.

Lords Of The Fallen™

Lords Of The Fallen™

I decided to write a review of this game because most of the recent reviews are from people who have barely played the game (some haven’t even completed the game) with very little achievement progress. I have spent almost 200 hours playing this game, and have earned every achievement. This may go without “saying”, but I’ll “say” it anyway: I’m going to attempt to chronicle my way through this game and the process I used to learn about the mechanics and what I found frustrating. I used an XBox 1 controller, so button references will be made accordingly.

This is a hard review to write. In many ways, I REALLY like the game. In other ways, I’m very frustrated with and dislike it.

The graphics are excellent, even today. On the other hand, the gameplay is extremely frustrating. I’ve gotten to the Labryinth and have “hit a wall” when it comes to patience.

Here’s what I mean:

1. There is no way to adjust the difficulty if it is above your abilities. Yes, I admit I’m not a great gamer. I’ll never compete.

I play games recreationally to blow off steam and relax. No relaxation here. When I first started with the game I died about 20 times (killed or game crashes (see below)) trying to get past the 2nd boss (the Commander). WAY too difficult for the reasons I want to play games.
