Sherwood Extreme

Sherwood Extreme

Sherwood Extreme is a gem in a sea of countless games. I have had the pleasure of being in the closed beta as a QA tester. Sherwood Extreme has a simple yet complex variety of game-play mechanics. The average player will always have fun and the dedicated will always be coming back for more. This game has great potential as it grows in Early Access. In the future, I believe the speed running community will enjoy this game. The developers at CageStudios are people who are passionate about their game. They listen to community feedback and want to make a great game. The developers have built an awesome community on their discord.

even though i have 10 hours in this game i can’t recommend this to people which hurts because i loved the time i spent with it. you play as Walmart robin hood in parkour levels killing enemies with various bows you can get through in game currency. you also have a shield but you’ll probably never use that. let me get the pros outta the way first. 1. the game play loop is fun for awhile till you realize the lack of variety and patterns. 2. there’s a decent amount of cosmetics you can get in game for free. 3. you can make chickens explode. now for the cons. 1. the lack of pretty much anything. 2. while i said the game play loop is fun it’s also incredibly repetitive, dull, and slow even though i think the intentions are for it to be fast. 3. the bugs many times my bow wouldn’t shoot this seemed to only happen in certain area but still was annoying. another bug i noticed was the game crashed a fair bit and if i clicked something to fast that would somehow crash the game as well. 4. the rpg system… man at first i loved it but after awhile it felt like a forced attempt to get people to play longer. what i mean by this is the rpg system really don’t help since in order to “level up” and get skill points you need to grind levels A lot and your reward is so small that it won’t matter till way later. on this same topic leveling up weapons was a slow and honestly boring grind since you can just grind the first level over and over(if you go there with a mission for it it’s even faster). 5. the missions. while they seem cool and fun at first they’re actually pretty dumb. they claim to add tons of variety to each level/mission they don’t. they only change a few minor things. for example traps that are easy to avoid, “different” enemies, etc. i can name more but the point is this game if just a slow, boring grind for nothing of value. oh they also have co-op but since almost nobody even plays it’s pointless. i know i said i don’t recommend this game but if you want something that’s fun-ish and relaxing for a bit give it a try.

Light Tracer 2: Bright ambition that needs some more work.

Light Tracer 2 is a Puzzle solving RPG that needs a lot of reworking for its core gameplay loop though conceptually is a great idea for a game.

Gameplay

Starting with the puzzles in game, they are for the most part really clever and well thought out. Some of them get really involved and take some consideration to find a solution, with some benefiting from using this second god type character to get a view of the puzzles and help you see things from a better perspective, other puzzles though are much simpler and often have exploits that weren’t intended by the player to do. While playing you are encouraged to explore the environments to get items for crafting recipes but more often than not it ends up being a redundant task as early on you aren’t a strong character so going out of your way to get these resources means you’ll fight creatures that out number and often overpower you meaning when you do kill the creatures you’ll often end up low on health and your reward is a often nothing useful to recoup the cost of the battle. While fighting enemies and doing puzzles you gain XP/Currency that you can use to level up your player, gain new abilities or progress the games story and that’s where things get bothersome. The biggest issue in the game is that your characters XP/Upgrade points are using the same currency for the progression of the games story, so it becomes a game of “do you want to level up, or unlock the next area?”, because of this you’re often just burning through the game by doing puzzles, getting just enough XP/Currency to progress to the next puzzle, then after finishing 6 puzzles you can either level up your character or go to the next island or optionally do the remaining puzzles on the island to get a small amount of XP/Currency. This quickly becomes a problem as most creatures/items on the map don’t give you anywhere near enough XP/Currency to balance this out. You are encouraged to discard the resources you gather as they all have a value of xp/currency you can recycle them for. Even if you do collect enough items to craft a health potion it will cost you 50 points of the xp/currency to craft instead of being a free crafting system it costs the resources and a fee. This seems like something that can easily be fixed just by adding a secondary currency for the main gameplay progress separate from the player xp/currency so hopefully this is something the developer can look into in the future. The combat in general is not that satisfying and seems more like a after thought rather than something that was fleshed out. Enemies attack patterns are just annoying and you’re often interrupted mid combo more often than not resulting in a a very unsatisfying combat system. Normally this would be remedied by blocking or dodging and using something like invincibility frames but this games block feature is locked behind upgrades meaning your only option is the dodge feature which is just a normal dodge with no invincibility frames and normally that would be fine but most creatures have at least one attack that you can’t space yourself far enough with the standard dodge. I think in general terms of gameplay there needs to be some QA as the core gameplay outside of the puzzles is just not that enjoyable when it could be fixed really easily by adding invincibility frames to the dodge feature and making the player not stagger so easily then also adding a separate currency/method of progressing the story than the currency used to level up the players stats/upgrades. There were a handful of bugs I experienced during my playtime and reported to the dev that hopefully will be removed before the game is released.

Lone Archer

Lone Archer

For the price, Lone Archer is a great endless wave defense game. The level and enemy variety is quite large and the game play is smooth and fun. It could definitely use some sort of progression mechanic, but what it currently offers is more than enough to entertain.

If you are interested in seeing a more in depth look at the game I made a short video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9488QK4Jxlc

The Viking Way

The Viking Way; an ambitious project that aims to bring a Viking experience into the 3D RPG world. Upon playing I could see the amount of work being put into this project, through their slowly chipping away at every unpolished surface in the game with every update.

It’s Medieval times, when the Vikings rule the high seas and warring factions fight for new land and dominance over other factions. This is where I come into play; I am about to set off on a journey to represent the Faction Ribe and make my father proud.

## Kingdom Fall, Dawn of the Druid

Fun game for few hours. I like this kind of action combat.

Very short game, linear, easy, limited. Only one class Ranger Druid.

I played more just to get into top 10 :-) 3 rebirths was enough at this time.

sadly has a lot of potential i just have no clue what the devs were thinking when they made this game 15GB of what and for what…..im a little confused .

no weapons to choose from.

same levels u can farm with a ton of glitches. - like hiding in a corner and freezing the level as u farm-

getting randomly hit from bad guys when none are around me.

i dont see any progress in any of the upgrades even tho i pour a ton of scrolls in them.

the worse part of this game, has no settings at all. no key settings or video/audio. like once again what did you need 15GB for? Deff needs a rework. i did have fun playing the levels i just think it needs way more details pertaining to the game and progress.

## Shades of Rayna

I will keep this short and right to the point.

I took this game for a quick spin to test the tires, and I have not seen 5 hours go by so fast!! It has been a long time since I have had a game grab me right out of the gate and keep me!

It is simple to learn and very easy to play, no button mashing needed… 4 directional movement- 2 buttons for skills and a 3rd key for a random area buff/skill that gets offered. Plus, all key binds can be remapped as well.

One of the first things to catch my attention was when I fired up the game I had a full screen available ... ( I run an Ultra wide Monitor 3440 x 1440 ) and this game supported it!! That in itself is rare for a game, not to mention this is just released in Early Access!!

Okay i think i have played enough to drop a comment on it.

Here are the things i love and enjoy;

-So many loots that might even take more time to collect than actually killing mobs

-Fast and smooth yet sweaty gameplay with lots of dodges (dark souls sim)

-Progression feels smooth even tho it's still on early access

-Gambling feature to get higher items or relics (crying sim)

-Various skill combos and new builds as the dev updates

-Dev constantly releases new updates including new features, items, relics and most importantly bug fixes

### Overview

This game does the bare minimum of everything it claims to have. Some things in the games 'About' are rather disingenuous to this as well; this is the inspiration in creating an extensive and spoiler-free review. The combat, farming, quests, dialog and environments are the same exact cliches as every other game of this type. Everything felt uninspired and dry. All in all this had a feeling of being an early access game where all major mechanics were present but had yet to be fleshed out. Many games fall into this category, and a lot of them make up for it by being charming or unique in some niche- this game does not.
