Feral Fury

Feral Fury

Pros:

Solid controls

Fun gameplay

Passive Upgrades that carry over

4 characters

A dozen or so weapons

Persistant and cool blood effects

Cons:

Not much content (feels like ~10% of Isaac’s content in comparison)

A weird driving section (luckily you can skip this section)

Another weird ‘train’ level. Luckily it’s short, i guess it’s supposed to connect the story but i’m not feeling this part.

It’s a pretty bare bones, mini-Isaac game with 4 characters & a dozen different weapons. Not sure there will be any more updates/content though so I suspect i’ll be done with the game at around the 40-50 hour mark, which is still very good value. There’s enough end-game content and variety to keep you playing for a while.

My story of Feral Fury began with my roommate who came to me one day and said ‘So I found a thing you might enjoy’. Famous first words. So, he winds up showing me this neat little twin-stick shooter with a panda in power armor. My first thought was ‘that’s adorable’. My second thought shortly after was a resounding: ‘THIS IS AWESOME!’ He tells me that I’m free to play it when he’s at work, as we Steam Share. He has .7 hours on it at the time of my writing this. I have almost twenty.

If you like games like The Binding of Issac, Nuclear Throne, Enter the Gungeon and others, Feral Fury is a MUST BUY for you. I’ll go ahead and echo what everyone else seems to say, but it’s true. The controls are tight and responsive, allowing for the fine movements you’ll need. The combat is both visceral and fast-paced, making split decisions the difference between life and death. The system is as forgiving as it is unforgiving, punishing second-thoughts and the slow-witted, but rewarding those who understand how the game functions. The soundtrack is perhaps a bit too cheery for what the game is, but it just underlines the deceptive nature of the game.

Even the fairly early alpha version I was playing felt like a treat. It’s a procedurally generated tower-climbing FPS that has a sufficiently high skill cap. While I haven’t played any other such Roguelike-FPSs, the negatives I’ve heard people level at those don’t seem to apply here, e.g. the A.I. is just fine and fighting varied enough. There are a LOT of weapons and enemies already, though the levels aren’t hugely varied. High skill-cap if you want to challenge yourself. Not a lot of unfair deaths once you get used to a few things.

This is a really compelling rogue-lite shooter that for several months now has been my default compulsive “just one more go” game, I love the emphasis it places on the verticality of the massive tower levels, and there’s a real sense of style as you jet around the levels on rocket boots, going into slomo to clip one guy before switching weapons to take out the other next to him before he can react. It can be very tough at first, in fact for most of the playtime I only ever saw the first level (there are four in total), but getting better at it and learning how to play skilfully feels very satisfying.

Berserker’s Descent

Berserker’s Descent

Big props to the developer for completing this early access properly, most devs would abandon the game with those sales a long time ago. The game improved a lot, not just since the EA release date, but even from a few days ago, particularly when it comes to rebalancing enemies, it feels so much better now. I know it looks ugly and the animation is not exactly appealing, but it’s a really fun game for replay value, it has a lot is going on under the surface with the attacks cancels, dodge-rolls, stagger mechanics, juggle mechanics and other compounding upgrades. Not to say that everything is perfect, the hitboxes in this game is something you going to have to learn by trial and error, and the platforming can be a pain in the butt. The game is not too complicated, ultimately you just have to rely on your reflexes and you don’t have to utilize all the fancy moves, but the combat variety does make it more enjoyable, there are more than a few ways to swing the sword, plus all of the timing bonuses.

The Game: The game is a rouge-lite side-scroller mixed with a brutal melee combat system Risk of Rain meets Dark Souls, if you will With simple graphics and addictive gameplay.

The Good Things: Combat feels great. Shifting between normal Light/Heavy attack’s to special move’s is very smooth and rewards good timing with faster swings, more I Frame’s on dodge’s, ect. The game has a very high skill sealing that feels extremely satisfying to get better at.

The Mixed Things: There is a lot of different perks too choose from as you go through you’re run. they, however. Have a lot of balance problems. Example. Why would I choose to push my enemy slightly farther away from me with each hit when I could just increase me DMG so I can kill them quicker? More then likely done just so you don’t get the ultra OP perks as much

Colt Canyon

Colt Canyon

This is a very nice western themed top down rougelike game. I see a lot of top-down shooter games get compared to Hotline Miami, and to some degree this is understandable but, I feel, usually unwarranted. However I think this game actually is quite similar to Hotline Miami. The gunplay feels quite smooth and fast. Melee and throwing weapons are also viable methods of killing. There are also some stealth mechanics. Most of the enemies die quickly, especially if you can catch them off guard.

As the game goes on the player can save prisoners who can give the player perks like better accuracy or more damage with certain weapons. Most of them will also offer to join the player instead of giving a perk. After enough levels the player can get a whole posse of followers going.

Colt Canyon Review - A gunslinger’s dream

Get shooting!

Brutal western roguelite shooter delivers dynamic combat and enthralling gameplay.

Colt Canyon, from the outside, has a rather simple premise; you need to save your partner - kidnapped by bandits at the beginning of the brief tutorial - by shooting your way to victory through the hordes of bloodthirsty bandits that populate the otherwise desolate plains of the wild west. And whilst it appears that’s all there is to this game, its complexity as you play seems to unfurl in front of you, very much deserving of the “easy to pick up, hard as hell to master” mantle.

I See Red

I See Red

A frantic Twin Stick Shooter that embraces destruction

I See Red is a frantic experience where you can wreak havoc and bring entire ships to crumble. Everything that you can interact with, you can destroy. Every cover and detail can explode into pieces. Use this to your advantage to expose your enemies. You can also brutally execute your foes with your own hands.

A never ending roguelite journey

Fight your way through the entire galaxy, invading spaceships from Human, Robot or Aliens races, each with their own weaponry, augments and more. By completing challenges, every time you begin a new playthrough, you will be able to experience new unexplored paths, more powerful skills, never before seen fearless enemies, the most incredible abilities and more. Make your runs more diverse every time you start anew and find new ways of achieving your vengeance!

A story of vengeance, violence and pain

You are an outlaw, crawling about the infinite black space, in search of the person that did something horrible to you. In fact, you are so focused on your quest that you started to not care about your surroundings that are alien to your goal, making them look muted, but what you do care the most it would always be in RED.

Now, corrupted on the inside, you’re tormented to find out what happened to you to be this way.

Key Features

  • A vision that highlights in RED what’s important to you and muting what’s not.

  • Your multipurpose arm, a Grappling Hook, that can latch onto the environment to bring objects at a distance, and even to your enemies to brutally murder them!

  • Everything is destructible: break down a column to uncover an enemy, grab a weapon, empty it, and throw it at their face, and then do it all over again until the entire room is broken into pieces!

  • Become stronger with each run by finding components that upgrade you in every way.

  • UNLEASH YOUR RAGE! Every time you damage (or get damaged), your rage increases, until you can release it and mutilate every enemy in your path instantly!

  • Unlock skills, passives, weapons, consumables, enemies to fight, and even ships to invade to make each playthrough unique.

  • A dynamic music system that adapts to the current mood of the fight.

For the most part, I think this roguelite platformer is a lot of fun, but it kinda feels like a nice flash game when it comes to controls and combat. You can choose between 4 characters that share the same loot chest and skill tree - not a huge fan of that because playing one character essentially powers-up everyone else. Each hero has a different ranged and a melee weapon, unique passives, and active skills which are unlocked by equipping ability items. I did not get to test the online co-op because nobody plays this game, but I definitely think that multiplayer in roguelites is an awesome feature. I like almost everything that it has to offer, the only major problem for me is dealing with spam, sometimes there are too many colorful effects on the screen that make it hard to dodge. The game has a decent loot system which includes an inventory where you can modify both of your weapons and armor. There are many active and passive items that also get additional effects based on rarity.

I just spent an hour writing a great review. But this new shi**y steam ate it. so now i am making a lousy short one.

The game is polished, beautiful, and has great gameplay. Controls are responsive, and feels good. Enemies and bosses are unique, and looks great. There is a big skilltree with a good amout of unlocks and things to work for.

But it has next to no content. I beat act one in 3 hours. but then found out the other 9 acts are complete copies of the first one. Mobs, bosses, maps. They are all the same. Only difference is you get a little bit more of a conversation for ever time you beat an act. So i basically beat the game in 3 hours. The other 9 acts are just a grind to keep you playing.

This is a much more interesting and rewarding game to play than it may appear at first. In fact, my first impression was that the game was relatively simple, and fairly standard. This was anything but correct. It takes a bit of time to get into and really understand what is going on, but that is also part of the idea of the game. You start as a peasant in the middle of a great fugue, everyone has lost their memory, and this factors into many aspects of the gameplay. Items as well as spells and to a slightly lesser extent weapons must be discovered multiple times to completely reveal their description and effects, most of the game is not explained forwardly to the player, it’s left to you to discover how things work. This can be a little intimidating or confusing at times, but it’s an interesting concept.

Wonderful game, worth every single one of the 799 pennies it cost me.

It’s a modern Rogue-like with a quite slow-paced, deliberate combat system that takes a bit to get into.

Basically, swings of your melee weapons have some windup-time and cannot be cancelled and require a little insight into the movement patterns of enemies to connect. Early encounters with ranged foes that love to move just outside your weapons swing (or stab, lunge etc.) may make you exclaim ‘NOT fair!’ but after it clicks for you become an easily dispatched source of XP.

DESERT KILL

DESERT KILL

Written By Hidden Gems Review : https://store.steampowered.com/curator/38624426/

Desert Kill is a voxel/cartoonish roguelike where you can see the rainy blood. 😂

The game has simple mechanics but still it’s fun play it, but still early access with a lot of work for do, for example the aim of this game it’s kinda off, hard to hit the targets.

The graphics are ok but the visuals and the explosions with rainy blood make you say… woah nice job ! Also there are really good details of the game like the corpses become first squeletons and later dissapear.

I started a new short segment called “Lost on Steam” which features games that have few reviews for one reason or another. Definitely not necessarily negative, just games that slipped by people.

This is one of the featured games this week!

Desert Kill is honestly a fun roguelite. It has varied missions and weapons and each of your plays will be a little different. There are heroes, perks and weapons to unlock as you play and the combat keeps you on your toes with a bullet-hell ish design. You’ll need to stay frosty on your dodge button if you want to get through all of the areas.

Elium - Prison Escape

Elium - Prison Escape

I stumbled upon this game by chance and being a fan of the stealth action genre, decided to give it a shot.

The combat system was a pleasant surprise in it’s simplicity and emulation of actual combat. There are no flashy moves, lengthy/scripted combat sequences or any overt attempt to impress you, but the down to earth mechanics on how to land a blow or the encouraged timely use of parries/sidestepping has it’s own charm if implemented correctly.

Having said that, Elium also provides a challenging environment to play through as there are no healing features other than a small boost upon completing a level. This has been frustrating at times, but ultimately I felt that this added to the challenging nature to which I ended up feeling positive about.

I bought this game In baited anticipation in hopes of finding another good semi-roguelike game. Needless to say, I was disappointed by my purchase of this game.

For starters “Is the game fun?” Yes, it can be. Would I recommend buying it? Based on my experience, no, you shouldn’t. At least not until some of the game’s quirks are ironed out.

Graphically speaking, it’s okay, I’ve seen better by Unity’s standard, it runs good enough on most rigs. The combat does have it’s moments (but I will talk about that in a bit). Level design is about on par with what I expect from Indie developers, but there are a couple questionable choices.

RICO

RICO

if you ever watch Hollywood action cop movie or John Woo’s cop movie that’s what you expected from RICO except no jumping in this game. door kicking simulator is the short thing to describe RICO, you know door kicking slow-mo in almost every Call of Duty or in Medal of Honor Warfighter. The game focus on CQC combat with generate room, object, and enemies also random bomb objectives that so frustating, it’s sound easy enough but the hardest part you never know what’s waiting for you in there. Every time i play this game i wanna play Sabotage music from Beastie Boys.

Real player with 83.0 hrs in game

Good, in kind of a repetitive manner, but it’s likely I have played RICO more than I should have, until I finally deinstalled the game.

Mostly because the bomb timers can be a pain in the ass on higher difficulties and even on easy towards the end of a case.

The fact that you can try the last mission of a case only once, and upon failure you have to start with a new one all over again - without your arsenal - is really bloody annoying.

The daily or quick missions take care of that problem. No worries if you mess up there, you can just try again.
