this game is the best thing to happen to me. it incorporates the difficulties we face in our daily lives, like the boss spamming fiery death 4 times in a row. it teaches us a valuable lesson in sacrifice and brotherhood. the game itself is poorly made, but that doesnot stop the mastermind behind it to convey a gruesome and unforgiving world he definetitely had in mind. in conclusion 10/10 basically dark souls.

Devil Slayer - Raksasi

Devil Slayer - Raksasi

”A Polished and Challenging Top-Down Melee Roughlike in Dark Eastern Fantasy”

Devil Slayer - Raksasi is more than a common top-down roughlike that follow soul-like mainstream with bunch of waifu characters. The game is heavily inspired from well-known The Binding of Isaac and high-risk high-reward combat melee like Hotline Miami. Raksasi is developed by indie studio called GlassesCatGames (3-man team).

Chosen Heroes of The Prolonged War

The game sets in the event after the ancient times; the war between mankind created by god’s experiment and demons that used to control the earth. You play as dying Byleth, female warrior who was recovered and helped from battlefield by mysterious figures. They see your true potential to complete ultimate goal; slaying demons.

A weird melee-focused roguelite, Raksasi succeeds on a gameplay level despite rough edges. I’d definitely like it to do more (weapons have decidedly few moves and combat is a bit slow, with little in the way of expressive play), but the carefully limited hit zones on attacks (you and enemies must connect with the right parts of your weapon swings) and the focus on spacing and timing succeed in offering a solid, skillful play space (albeit a bit wonky feeling at first).

  • Deep, skillful, mindful combat with unusual play and high level of enemy interaction and engagement.

Simple Sky

Simple Sky

Simple Sky is top-down twin-stick space-shooter/score-chaser with some unique ideas. The simple and bright artwork gives the game a friendly appearance, but after I headed into the main game, I quickly realized that it gives the player no quarter. There are 10 difficulty settings, and only two are unlocked in the very beginning. Well, so far, I have yet to unlock another. Please keep in mind that this game is in Early Access currently, and some of my discussion may be outdated by the time you are looking at the game.

Bibots

Bibots

Bibots is a top-down shooter rogue lite with an emphasis on bullet hell action. Switch between two characters, explore and clear areas full of monsters, unlock abilities, customize your characters, die, learn and retry to save the world.

Play as Tayar, the crob explorer and the unexpected savior of his world, Takaful. Pick your guns, guts and go counter the plans of an evil mastermind. Tayar is not alone to accomplish this feat, chosen by a Bibot (actually luckily stumbled upon one) he gains the ability to transform into one of those ancient mechanical creatures. Each Bibot has his own strengths, try them all and pick your favourite according to your own playstyle.

Key Features

Discover a colourful world

Venture through mysterious temples in a colourful world full of characters to discover but also inhabited by dangerous monsters. The world is divided into regions, each with its own atmosphere to discover. The regions are procedurally generated and contain hand crafted battle rooms, treasures, merchants and secrets changing each time you play. Protect your home from vile enemies corrupting the fauna and threatening Takaful.

The Bibots

Choose the Bibot that will join Tayar in his epic journey, accumulate energy during your fights and use it to summon the devastating power of these mechanical beings. Each Bibot has its own playstyle and abilities, use them to fight your toughest enemies or save yourself from impossible situations. Learn to master them! The more you fight with the same Bibot, the more its synergy with Tayar will increase, unlocking new variants of its attacks to customize them before going into battle.

Customize your guns

Equip Tayar with a variety of weapons which you can customize with chips that you will find while exploring or encountering merchants. Experiment and combine their effects to customize your playstyle and create the weapons of your dream with countless possibilities and powerful synergie.

Level up

Accumulate experience during your fights to improve Tayar’s skills. Make it a survivalist, a soldier, a scientist or mix it all up. Each branch grants you access to permanent passives upgrading a wide range of skills and offering you new possibilities to enhance the synergy between Tayar and his Bibot.

Made for speedrunners

Bibots is made for all types of players, therefore we created features and game mechanics thought for speedrunners. The game keeps track of your current run time and you can see it any time while you play. The faster you clean the levels, the more you will be rewarded with bonuses corresponding to your fast play style. Influence your timer by summoning your Bibot and stop the flow of time, switch your characters intelligently to prevent time from running out and unlock a maximum number of rewards.

This game is a great experience and I really enjoy it! There are a bunch of characters you can unlock who all have slightly different play styles, and it honestly feels natural and fun to unlock them. There are a ton of items and achievements and it really challenges you. This is not one of those games where you can just press a button and instantly win every time - it takes strategy to survive, which makes it feel really rewarding. Worth the buy for sure!!

Pros:

  • +1: Sounds and animations. Howling monsters and thundering explosions make the dungeon crawling feels like a rock show.

  • +1: Secrets and clues. Beware of special walls and containers.

  • +2: Unforgiving combat. It takes me 45 hours to beat the game for the first time. I really enjoys to solve in-game problems one after another.

Cons:

  • -1: Annoying glitches.

    • The mouse pointer moves to the center of the screen every time I start the game. I play the game by keyboard or X-Box controller, so I have to move the mouse pointer out of game window when running in window mode.

Bought it pre-release from the developers website.

I just like rogue-likes (or -lites, or likelikes or whatever floats your boat), and this one is plain fun to play.

Visually it reminds me of Nuclear Throne, only with turn-based movement and combat.

You can move and shoot in the 4 cardinal directions, aiming costs nothing but as soon as you take a step everything else does as well. Deliberately without a skip turn function, it changes smoothly between just going for it and taking another second to ponder about what to do next.

Battle Planet - Judgement Day

Battle Planet - Judgement Day

Honestly feels like I ripped the developers off by buying this on sale, it is that fucking amazing!

I’m a huge twin stick shooter (top down shooter) guy. They’re likely my favorite genre over FPS. I’ve sunk countless hours into a whole slew of these style of games, and this game, right out of the gate, has me fucking hooked. To give you an idea, I’m sick asf right now with tonsillitis and was due to have some medication a few hours ago, but this game has an energy surge about it that I doubt you’d even get if you were to unzip and ram it through the monitor! Look Ma, no meds while I’m playing this incredibly crafted gem of a game. It honestly feels that fucking splendid that I’m lost for words. It’s everything I’ve wanted in a top down shooter. It has pizzazz that makes the game play just perfectly while being in your face hectic and hard. If I ever get old enough to need Viagra, I’ll just load up this game up and look Ma, no hands! :P

It’s hard for me to give this a Thumb’s Down because even though it is fairly tight and competently made, it is ultimately a boring game with a very flat experience overall.

You start with a heavily-neutered set of powers and skills and as you proceed through the arenas (little planets), you gather chips which you may use for permanent upgrades. Every upgrade is MORE SOMETHING. So your basic gun sucks, and then you grind away to get upgrades to it’s damage. Your jetpack sucks, and you grind away to get speed/fuel upgrades. Your speed is slow, and you grind to get speed upgrades. The core game does not have enough depth to keep a player interested enough to keep doing this and make it feel worthwhile. You’re basically repeating the same dull arenas over and again with very little to keep you interested.
