A really compelling game, I started it up to see what the deal was and immediately lost half an hour to it.

The game is very easy to pick up and play, and for the most part the gameplay is easy to understand. There are a few things that are frustrating to me playing this game, though.

After defeating a boss, if you haven’t taken any damage, you get an option to shuffle around some of your stats. I’ve gotten options like “+30 HP & -30 HP” multiple times, which is incredibly frustrating because it makes one of your options useless. There is another power up called “Lucky Items” that is supposed to give you more stat boosts in the game, but I never noticed any difference when I got it.

Myriavora

This game may look simplistic at first glance.

But don’t be fooled, the skill ceiling in this game is tremendously high.

It is not precision aiming or microsecond reaction time that will win the game (or a new position on the leaderboard.)

Rather, you have to come prepared, have a plan, execute it well, and, if shit hits the fan, have an exit strategy.

There are multiple risk-reward systems that encourage you to play on razor’s edge as much as possible.

  • You want to stay close to the spiders to raise your fire rate, but you have to make sure you don’t get overrun.

At the surface an easilly understood game which controls way more smoothly than you’d think.

Most likely requires dedication, knowledge and skill to push the leaderboards.

Speaking of which, I’m #2 behind the dev, I’ll likely lose that spot immediately if anyone buys the game due to this review.

Incaved

Incaved

In Incaved you explore ever expanding- and changing cave systems, building an underground community of survivors, making gut wrenching decisions, and fending off carnivorous mutated animals and other survivors, doing the same as you. With your trusty gear, your gas mask, grappling hook and hefty arsenal of improvised weapons, you’ll constantly have to adapt to come out on top in whichever situation this wretched world throws at you.

Gameplay

With the cave systems changing after every death, you’ll have to improvise to survive any possible situation with equipment you manage to find, in this roguelite experience. Interconnected levels and progressive unlocking of new weapons, items and story events keeps you motivated to explore your surroundings. Every death propels time, bringing your comrades closer to their potential death and changing up how the levels look and play out.

Features

  • The high replayability value a roguelite offers, with a big emphasis on exploring an interconnected world, including the thrill of permadeath, making each move count even more.

  • An enormous cast of interesting characters, each with their own backstory and motives.

  • Expanding platforming manoeuvres, including wall jumps, vaults and a grappling hook.

  • Hand drawn pixel art, combined with a realistic atmosphere.

  • Perform combo’s, dodge, block and parry in 2D Souls-like action.

Story

After nukes were dropped by the mistakes of higher men, lower class people need to find shelter in the cave systems nearby. Quickly scavenging anything they can on their way there. You play as one of many, who’ve lost their all and only want one thing: to survive for long enough to see their loved ones again. Chances of survival drastically start decreasing, as food and water supplies start running dry, mutated animals and infections start plaguing the caves, and survivors start turning on each other. Who can be trusted? How much longer can the aggressive mutates animals be contained? Is it even worth staying in these wretched dark caves, or is making your way to the wasteland above a safer option, as impossible as it sounds?

Into the Pit

Into the Pit

This is a 2/3 Recommend. I shall explain why after describing the core of Into The Pit. It is a first-person shooter were you play a sorceror descending into a fiendish Pit to rescue villagers and find out what happened to those who descended before you. To some degree, the maps are randomized. Each level of a descent - or a run - is comprised of 4 chambers. Complete the 4 chambers, descend to the next level, or return with your gains in resources to the village. Then upgrade the village for persistent boons. Merchants, keymakers, etc. offer you help commensurate with the number of villagers you have saved to date. The game very much is in the spirit of Heretic. Your “magic” consists of projectile spells tagged for the duration of your run to each hand. Every completion of a chamber allows you to apply an upgrade to your abilities. The Neglected Potential: Into The Pit’s demo is fun and promises great things in an extended 1.0 full game. Unfortunately, if you play the demo, you’ve pretty much appreciated everything Into The Pit is going to offer you. In the full version, no new spell types, no persistent boosts to abilities, and the few upgrades to your run modifiers are pretty straightforward, as well as quickly obtained. The vast quantities of persistent resources you accumulate serve no purpose… you max out whatever you can in short order, with nothing further to look forward to. The most disappointing village aspect has to be the unlocking of the “Merchant”. Aha, you think - now I can purchase persistent equipment and/or spells and/or spell upgrades for further spelunking. But el-POOF-o, no such thing is to be found… instead this “Merchant” is simply a resource convertor. Resources for which you long ago ran out of uses for. Too bad: all sorts of potential here to deepen enjoyment, including equipment, potions & scrolls, spells & spell modifiers/boosts, levels comprised of more than 4 chambers, additional chamber objectives, villager consequence, etc. . Into The Pit is pretty good, and it could be interesting to see what the developer does next. Ziggurat 2 is the better & more rewarding experience. Love fps action games with rpg depth and long-term replayability. Into The Pit is a 2/3 entry though.

I cannot recommend this game. It starts promising, but fizzle out without even taking up from the ground.

The whole game is just a bare skeleton.

There is no content. Developers blatantly baited and switched everyone who tried pre-release demo. There is nothing new beyong the demo. You literaly could see everything what game could offer during the demo itself. Steam Store description is misleading at its best and false at it worst.

fantastic little game, its everything i love as a gamer, its both unforgiving and rewarding, happily threw away a whole afternoon playing this, extremely difficult to master.

Real player with 4.9 hrs in game

This game has promise, while short it does have replayability. gameplay is simple and thats a good thing. run though stages fighting on coming enemys, kill them and they drop health and sometimes weapon mods/attachments. this is always fun as you can create some crazy creations if you get lucky enough in your run. a Mac-10 SMG that has the barrel of an Springfield chambered in .22 with a 50 round magazine is impractical in real life BUT…useful here. it has it’s fair share of bugs as expected, such as enemys clipping though walls and the odd Frame rate spike here and there but nothing game breaking (as far as im aware). worth the buy just for the price alone, but this will be a game i’ll play a round of every day just to see how fast i can finish it. speedrunners will have a blast with this i think :)

ArcRunner

ArcRunner

ArcRunner is a beautiful Cyberpunk-styled action rogue-lite set in the far future on board a huge space station where the controlling AI has gone insane, and its up to you to traverse the Arc to find and destroy it.

You start each run as a newly-cloned human, and using credits earned in each level augment and replace your body using robotic and cybernetic enhancements until you’re more machine than human.

The game features frantic 3-rd person action, a randomised weapon and augment system with almost unlimited possible builds, huge bosses to fight and 2-player online co-op.

Hellblusser

Hellblusser

This game has eally great battle mechanic ideas and a really fantastic soundtrack that helps add a good deal of atmosphere. There are a couple quality of life improvements that could really make the game feel a bit more fleshed out that I can only hope will get added; custom keybindings for things like the fire gathering and blocking, as well as being able to view the inventory and a map. Small tweaks could really elevate this great nugget of a game.

Real player with 9.9 hrs in game

Hellblusser is a roguelike game where you play a prince on a mission from the Moon herself. The game play itself is fairly straight forward, and with a limited number of items and blessings, you will have some range to complete the game in a few different ways. One of the more popular ways is to use the drain ability along with the ring of kicking.

Achievements are pretty straight forward, and you will have to play through a couple of times to get them all.

I liked the art style, music, and controls. I wish there were more items and blessings for more variability. But I enjoyed my 11 hours.
