Catacombs Of The Yokai

Catacombs Of The Yokai

After finishing a late shift at work you find a mysterious amulet that was dropped on the ground.

As you go to return it to the woman that dropped it, you encounter a strange doorway that you haven’t seen before. Entering the door leads you into an unnerving nightmare realm.

On your way through the depths you will encounter various enemies (many inspired from Japanese/Taiwanese urban legends and myths) that must be tricked, conversed with or eluded in sometimes unconventional ways.

Can you survive and return the amulet banishing this portal forever?

  • Randomly Generated Levels: Each new play-through will generate a random set of floors. However, these change with each new game file started, allowing for extended re-playability.

  • No combat. Survive by hiding, using your wits and clever use of the items at your disposal.

  • Use magical items at the cost of health to help navigate the catacombs and help locate enemies.

  • Urban legends and myths from Japan and Taiwan were used as reference for many enemy designs and behaviors including: Kuchisake-onna (Slit Mouth Woman), Kunekune (Wriggling body) and Spirit Houses.

  • Unique Enemy AI: Survive by leaving offerings, making smart conversational choices, causing a distraction or even closing your eyes to avoid death.

  • Creepy and foreboding atmosphere.

  • Created by 2 people, allowing for more direct communication with players on the content and direction of future updates.

Deadnaut

Deadnaut

Deadnaut provides a lot of creepy atmosphere, fun and replayability.

When I bought Dreadnaut and entered the game, I didn’t expect much based on the trailers available. It seemed just like all those top-down squad RTS games, which there are hundreds of. It was only 10 euros, so I decided to jump it and test it out.

I immediately reached out for the character creation. I’ve always been one for creating my own party/character, since the game experience feels a lot more personal. The character creation has two minor bugs, which I did not realize were bugs until I read the forums for a tutorial on character creation. The bugs:

In one campaign your fighting off waves of fast moving xenomorphs, through the flurry of fast moving xeno’s you see one of your men get dragged away through a airlock. Yet in another campaign you may be contending with the possessed remains of a former crew driven insane by unknown artifacts, behemoths throwing your soldiers around as artifacts obscure your command and control with horrifying visions of death and torture.

Deadnaut’s is a game that wants to immerse you in its universe. Your hud looks akin to something from a WW2 submarine simulation and your control over your soldiers is sketchy at the best of times. There are a large amount of things to take into consideration with Deadnaut’s and many ways for those under your command to come to harm or die, this may be the one area the game faulters in. It is a real time tactical squad based game, essentially a rogue like.

Great game, figured i should change my review after awhile since the game has changed a lot since i wrote this review. Anyway, id reccomend this game to others, a fun game concept and has gone along ways from where it used to be.

SO quick little things to say quickly to people hopping on this game, first off, this games options, especially vid options, dont really work, for example, try changing your resolution, it it instead changes bit quality, and from other times ive messed with the options, they’ve had issues with not working or being weird or such, but from my current testing, it seems only video options have this issue, exept ambiant sound is always stuck at 0? I dont know but thats all with ui.

Great roguelike game with a considerable amount of content for an early access. Play style revolves around obtaining masks each of which offers their own moveset and special abilities. Powerups that upgrade passives and items that give unique effects can also be found along the way. Game gets progressively intense and fast pace like most other action roguelike games with stronger enemies appearing/hoarding you.

Only downsides are level design and lack of sound effects/music. Visually levels look great but level design can be simplified into an open area with spots that I can walk in and spots that I can only temporarily walk around in. Cause of this levels hold little differences besides enemies, chests, alters. Later levels do have more gimmicks in terms of level design but it would be nice to see an improvement on this in general.

At the current time (05/31/21), the game does not actually allow you to play. The idea seems incredible and the trailers look awesome. Please let me know if this game gets up and running properly.

Outbreak: Endless Nightmares

Outbreak: Endless Nightmares

Been playing for about 12 hours and its a good game if you want to play a rogue-like that carries over your equips, levels and meta progression. As you play, you will find Conductor coins that unlock said features but the spawn rate of these coins slow down by midgame. You can tweak the dungeon difficulty by yourself before entering, with higher difficulties giving better loot.

As for the gameplay, its Resident Evil 1-3 with tweakable camera angles. And randomised dungeon layouts. Weapon types are like in RE. AI could be better, they usually stand around unless you take too long to clear the level. I’m kind of disappointed with the costume unlocks but the gameplay is fun enough to grind for coins. Some enemies can one shot you so the difficulty is definitely there.

Its a really fun game but I feel the weapons certainly need some rebalancing, to go from needing 3 bullets to kill a fat zombie with a target pistol mk.2 to needing legit 6 bullets with a tactical rifle mk3 is beyond a problem, especially when the rifle only has 7 bullets. The game is really fun and i still am finding new enemies that i absolutely didnt expect to run into but the camera certainly needs some work and it is definitely very very janky. Theres a lot of potentional here and hopefully it continues to improve. What’s here is a great game though, and it can only get better

Rebellion: A Rogue Souls Like

Rebellion: A Rogue Souls Like

This game is a little rough around the edges and I hope to see the graphics get a little smoother when it fully releases, maybe even a few more sound effects. I would also like to see it better optimized on graphic card usage (seems to pin my Strix Vega 64 regardless of graphics level) and a little more options in settings. The mini-map could be better as well both in accuracy and it would be nice to see it turn with you so up is always forward relative to you.

Aside from that, even in its current state, it is a fun little game. The controls are straight forward, the game objective easy to understand. While it would be nice to see better graphics dodging or rolling out of attacks, the combat is ok. Character development is limited to getting experience points and levelling up. When you die, and you will many times, you loose your stuff but you keep your level and money. I also think it is well priced for what you are getting.

Amazing game, I loved it when the big knight chased me around, reminded me of my school days. Combat is immaculate, and storyline made me feel real anger towards the king, sometimes I would wake up at night sweating and reminding myself that I need to kill him.
