DroneGlitch

DroneGlitch

This is a nice procedural FPS! The particles are very good. The core feedback loop is stronger than I expected. Enemy attacks have a good bit of diversity that make them play well in different matchups against the player. This is a good foundation by the dev and I’m excited to see what they will do next!

Is a very good game if you want to just unplug the brain and shoot to pass 10/20 minutes, the fast paced movement and shooting make it really dynamic, in addition it is randomly generated so the positions of the weapons and the map are not always the same, increasing the replayability a little.

I recommend the purchase

Geometry Arena

I’ll break this game up into a few sections. Those sections will be gameplay, proggression, and then specifics like graphics and sound design.

First off, the gameplay is pretty good for this title. I’ve played dozens of roguelikes from Hades to Nova Drift, and this game is up there in the quality of its mechanical execution. It’s not groundbreaking, as Nova Drift is a more polished experience overall, but this game compensates with its higher overall variety. That’s because this game incorporates 3 different systems for shaking up the gameplay - colors, roles, and skills.

Bad North: Jotunn Edition

Bad North: Jotunn Edition

I’ve heard some negative criticism and some positives about the game and I really want to voice my opinion on this game because I feel like the devs have something really REALLY special here, it’s absolutely worth your time even if you may not get a lot of mileage out of it.

Bad North is a deliberately paced game broken up in to two segments.

  • The action phase of the game takes place on the many procedurally generated islands in the game, you choose which commanders to bring (this usually boils down to the same 4 commanders you’ve sunk all your coins in to, unless you’re going for a specific achievement) and then ships with various viking troops slowly sail towards the shores. There’s a big rock/paper/scissors element going on here where shields counter archers, archers counter unshielded units, and pikes counter… well everything without a bow lol. It’s really fun trying to defend all the buildings on each island. It’s worth noting, your mission on each island is merely surviving the onslaught of enemy troops. Keeping the buildings in tact is optional, although, you should strive to keep every building standing if you hope to get enough coin to upgrade all your units enough for the late game.

A delightful roguelite real time tactics game.

What I enjoy about this game:

  • Cute graphics and sound effect.

  • Remarkable details. See this wonderful article from Rock Paper Shotgun for how the devs design their little soldiers in this game.

  • Very friendly to newbies in RTT games like me. It has only three unit classes and seven enemy types. How each unit class/enemy/trait/item/skill functions are mostly intuitive and easy to understand after seeing it once or twice in real action. Also, you deploy your units on a grid-based map and they plan the route and fight automatically. And the game even slows down time when you select a unit to give you more reflex time. You can almost play it as a turn-based strategy game.

Found this on the “soon releasing” page and wishlisted it, thought it looked cool. Was worried it’d be overpriced, but…..only $5.

Pros:

The art style is simple and very chill.

The dev states its 100% skill and they are right. Even when I died I didnt get mad at the game, because im an idiot. I got into cat & mouse shoot out with the enemy and it actually made me laugh.

Levels are destructible, except for stuff you and ricochet your bullets off of….these 2 things make a simple roguelike incredible.

It’s a good game.

It doesn’t take up very much storage so it’s good if your low on storage.

It isn’t very system demanding and it doesn’t take much to run. (I’m on a chromebook and I think I meet the recommended requirements)

and I can also see how this game can grow over time

the game isn’t much now but it has just started.

Thearchy

Thearchy

This is in fact a game.

Real player with 0.6 hrs in game

Thearchy is a 2D top down retro pixel dungeon crawler game that’s been slapped together with the godawful GameMaker Studio construction kit from Yoyogames. Using a low quality video game construction kit invariably results in a low quality game, and there’s no exception here.

The technical implementation is fairly bare bones, with blocky 2D retro pixel “art” graphics. Controls and resolution are locked. Overall the quality and depth of the game are very low. The developer seems to have decided that PC game controllers like HOTAS, pedals, racing wheels etc are in fact console peasant childrens toy gamepads. It’s just my opinion of course, that these are in fact not console peasant pads. Regardless, the developer doesn’t agree, and maps them as if they are, so the mouse control is overridden and the mouse pointer is shoved up into the top left corner of the screen. The menu can’t be negotiated without the mouse (which the developer has rendered useless through this questionable controller design decision), so the game cannot be played. Basic testing on a gaming PC would have caught this.
