IN A WORD: MAYBE
IN A NUTSHELL:
WHAT TO EXPECT: More Roguelite than Roguelike. Difficult, very challenging. Top-down, action shooter. Plain 2D maps. Basic visuals and sound. Rudimentary gameplay. Limited, unvaried content. Designed for replayability. God and drug references themes. Enjoyable in short bursts. Single-player only.
ACHIEVEMENTS: VARIED. MOSTLY ORGANIC. SOME SKILL-BASED.
STATUS: JUST RELEASED.
WHO FOR/WHEN TO BUY: Only if you know what you are getting. I would wait for a good sale.

Setting out to be the top-ranked club in the galaxy, the player controls a group of pilots known as the ‘Super Space Club.’ The player’s objective is to complete missions and defeat as many enemies as possible while ensuring to not deplete all of their ship’s energy, sending them back to their beginning base.
Flyland Wars: 0 Ball Game [Trainer]
The introductory part of the Flyland Wars Series tells the backstory of the Flyland Universe. The story is the strongest point of the game. It’s worth reading all seven pages of it, not just because it’s quite an entertaining sci-fi story, but because it explains mechanics that are crucial to beat the other games in the series. The main weak point is that the UI and HUDs are confusing and in-your-face at first until you’ve read the story and figured out what everything does. The level is included to get comfortable with the mechanics before introducing enemies. I’m interested too see how the developer continues the story through the series.

EVERSPACE™
There are several users who have written detailed and thorough reviews of this title, I am not going to attempt to do anything approaching some of the excellent reviews that I have read.
I am however, so impressed with this game that I feel I must share my two cents about how immersive and amazing the experience and gameplay are.
Many, many years ago I had a gaming PC…. to put this in perspective, the World Trade Center was still around in those days, we had only elected 1 George Bush and nobody knew what an iPhone was.

An shining example of how Early Access can work and a brilliant mixture of roguelike and space shooter
EVERSPACE™
dares to experiment and comes out a winner.
I’ve had my eye on Everspace ever since last year when it was on Early Access. Reading those words invokes a feeling a wariness to any consumer who has seen hundreds of EA titles rise and fall either in the blink of an eye or suffer a prolonged cycle of non-development and eventual death.
I held off buying the game last year but once I saw that Everspace was getting a final release in May I made a promise to myself to buy it during this summer sale. The discount was not that big but boy was the price worth it.

GAMEPLAY
I am using the Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS X Stick and it works out perfectly well. Although there are no presettings for using a Joystick, the setup is pretty quick and easy. You can personalize all buttons very well and thus, I strongly recommend using a joystick or better a HOTAS for the game, which I believe is crucial for the fun factor of the game.
Gameplay feels GREAT. You can literally feel all the properties of the different plane types you are flying and the effects of how you fly. The principle is very easy to learn and becomes more and more challenging, as you fly different random mission from your base (A flying Aircraft carrier). You will have to either destroy enemy bases on the ground in awesome bombing runs or battle bogeys and aces in challenging dogfights with your steadily growing arsenal of all different sorts of weapons. Once you successfully complete a mission and return to your base, a new mission will wait for you. With every mission you complete, your enemies will get stronger and harder to ward off, but if you die once, you will be back at the beginning and have to start all over again. All upgrades you afforded will also be lost.

I have been playing this game since it first went into early access and now that it has been released I can say that it’s not that good. I was hoping that the issues I was having would get fixed up but now that it’s been released I am giving up on that ever happening.
The game isn’t terrible by any stretch of the imagination, I wouldn’t have played 45hrs of it if it was. Rather it has some fundamental design features which mean its just not that fun. This game is a great example of a sound game (a few bugs here and there but nothing game breaking) that falls flat because design choices which encourage unfun play.
