Super House of Dead Ninjas
Few games epitomise the cultural style of 1980s American film and television as well as Super House of Dead Ninjas, the fast-paced, blood-soaked action platformer from Megadev. Based on the 2011 flash game House of Dead Ninjas , the game challenges players to enter a tower known as the Ziggurat of Infinium through the roof and descend down its hundreds of floors, battling the tower’s demonic occupants in a frenetic quest to discover what lurks on the ground floor.

A wonderful game to get, perfect for any fan of old SNES action games of frantic action and pace.
Rewards skill.
Challenging, but after time it becomes easy, luckily there is a harder mode for the true ending. Then an even harder mode to get out of DLC (on sale now). Finally a never ending mode to go for high score or just because you are having so much fun.
Small tasks to do in a game or through games that challenge you to do better (or just keep playing) to unlock items that can help you out. All optional for the most part.

This game is addicting. I like how simple the mechanics flow and the intensity of each run. different game every time. you never know what might happen. I have nearly struck my computer due to rage though, a simple mistake can really piss you off when you get pummeled by 30 cops after snagging a corner ruining a otherwise perfect run. Developers are adding new content regularly and i like what they’ve done so far. I am biased towards certain loadouts however because some weapons i cant seem to operate effectively due to timing issues. Sub-machine gun all the way! Perks for completing jobs are great all except for “Death Touch” i really hate getting it, and vote to remove it alltogether. It doesn’t help you in the slightest. In fact it has killed me more times than crashing or making critical errors.

The game has a lot of replayability even with a small amount of weapons and power-ups because the looping mechanic makes the levels more challenging. In a way, the player is being made to be actually stranded on the “raft boat” when a swarm of variety of enemies flood the looped levels. The difficulty bump between the base levels and loop 1 is pretty huge, but it is set to work out by the time the player gets to looped stages. Unlocking the costumes and daily mode were/are a fun part of the game which made playing the game greater. Overall, the game itself is really great, and it being free is kind of insane because I could see the game having a price tag between $1-10 as it is, honestly. Hope the developers make more!

The Walking Vegetables
Got it for free for a week. The Short Beta Key from Bundlestars (as of Nov.1 named Fanatical) I enjoyed very much.
I didnt beat the game despite wielding the Giant almost every playtrough and blasting everything with one shot weapons… but I see its potential. Of all the twin stick coop shooters I played this has one of the best gameplay feelings to it. Repetitiveness is also not a big deal since you yourself can chose how fast you go from chapter to chapter.
There are lots of weapons which you can all collect and select on a weapon wheel while the time slows down around you THere is also a melee component which is a must to get rid of incoming enemies and some projectiles. Furthermore you got your trusty randomization, respawning enemy waves, shops and crate drops after clearing out houses. It is also kid friendly since most of the time you will be slaughtering bizarre looking vegetables - which you can still hit with you melee weapon for a short time after you already killed them. So satisfying!

This game’s nice. Maybe not GOTY, but most things work well enough.
The structure is simple enough - to beat the campaign (which is something you’ll do multiple times), you have to get past several “chapters”, each concluding with a boss fight. Areas consists of a large “hub” (which has paths to other areas and constantly spawning enemies), multiple “objective areas” (where you fight a number of enemies to unlock the path to the boss), multiple buildings (which are also filled with enemies and can be fought through for loot) and a shop.

Dreamscaper
TLDR: Amazing roguelike with great atmosphere and design, an almost serene, soothing experience to play through, while simultaneously providing challenging gameplay that keeps you craving more.
Dreamscaper is a game that I’ve been looking forward to for a long time. I was a backer during the kickstarter campaign, the early alpha demo they showed us then already looked so promising, and I’m happy to say that the final product did deliver. I can’t recommend it enough.
You play the game as Cassidy, a girl suffering from depression, facing her nightmares/dreams at night and meeting people and building relationships during the day.

Dreamscaper is a new Early Access action RPG with both rogue-like and rogue-lite aspects, and to be quite frank, it’s rather beautiful! There are two general areas in Dreamscaper. The first is the dreamworld, where you progress through various levels and memories, battling your inner demons along the way. The second is the waking world, where you talk to your friends and colleagues, and craft gifts to increase your relationship with each of them. You get introduced to both worlds during the tutorial, along with the different gameplay aspects of each; combat, crafting, talking, etc.

Space Beast Terror Fright
This is a good game, but there’s a lot I wish I knew going in that will make your experience better. I wouldn’t call anything below a spoiler since the game has no story whatsoever, but if you want to go in completely without primer, skip to the bottom for my summary views.
What you need to know:
-As others have said, it’s basically Aliens: The Game, but without the license.
-Click the Help item on the title menu. Make a note of the controls and the game flow. You WILL need to know this stuff and it’s not accessible once you start a match.

Aliens. If you ever wanted a game to give you the same paranoia those marines had in the second installment of the Aliens franchise, this is probably the one to pull it off.
You have a near-dead space ship you need to nuke along with its unsightly wild alien infestation.
You have a number of datacores to access in order to unlock the reactor core so you can set the joint to nuke itself and take the skittery buggers with it.
Once you set the reactor to blow, you have a few seconds to get back to your ship so you don’t go down with this one.

Boyfriend Dungeon
5/10
I really want to highly recommend this game but the reasons I’m about to go into, I can’t. I would, however, say get this game if you like a short but pretty ok dungeoncrawler one shot.
TL:DR
Pros:
-
Dungeoncrawling aspect done well
-
Beautiful art, beautiful characters
-
Diverse cast
-
Interesting characters
Cons:
-
Shallow glimpses into the characters and finishes right as you start to care
-
No replay motivation (save for wanting to see dialogue)
-
Only 1 female dating option

“We’re just too hot for this old rickety thing to handle."
Verona Beach – a chill place to spend the summer. Especially in a rent-free apartment previously occupied by your cousin. Kind of him to offer you the space, even if he’s one of the most obnoxious and interfering people you’ll ever meet. But hey, families – can’t pick ‘em.
But you can pick lovers, and that’s part of the reason you’re here. See, you’ve never had a date. Not even once. Your cousin, under some duress from your mother, has been assigned your wingman, but it won’t be long before you’re able to make connections at your own pace.

Octogeddon
I was a huge fan of the original Plants vs Zombies, so I got this Day 1. I wasn’t sure about it at first, but much like how a chicken that spits out explosive eggs sprouts from a tentacle, it grew on me! This is a game that doesn’t show its entire hand at once and gets better the more you unlock.
Like PvZ, there is a ramp up from from nothing (1 sunflower = lowly 2 tentacles) to a full complement of destruction (a full garden of bullet peas = multiple legs of crushing, spitting, cutting action!). However, this sense of escalation is built through the entire game instead of short rounds; on the bad side, this means that each game starts of a bit slowly and it takes a while to build, but on the good side, once you build up your arsenal the action is sustained from that point. In that sense, it’s not as much of a dip-in, dip-out game like PvZ since the feeling of a satisfying complete play session is measured in whole playthroughs, not rounds.

This game is juggling a lot of balls for having such simple gameplay, and it gets a lot of it right.
Some examples: the game has ocean portions where you float at the center of the screen and land portions where you roll around. They’re different enough that you have to think about how your purchases are going to be affected by each level type, but similar enough that you can figure it out on your own pretty easily. The goldfish provides enough gold to give you an edge in Hard Mode, so you need to be careful about when you get rid of it to free a tentacle for a weapon. You can spend money on lives, but don’t spend too much or you’ll be underpowered… The balance in all these things is really perfect, and it must have taken a long time to figure out how all that should work.

METALLIC CHILD
Metallic Child starts us off in the aftermath of an AI rebellion, where the protagonist android (Rona), needs our help to stop a spaceship on a collision course with Earth. She was damaged from trying to stop the rogue robots herself, so she needs someone who can control her directly via remote uplink. You happen to be her first contact, and thus her mission becomes your mission.
You see, in this game, we may be controlling Rona, but we are playing as ourselves, as a person. Rona will be talking to us directly throughout the entire game. This is a subtle but distinct shift in perspective that - when done right - makes the connection a lot more personal. It’s a premise that’s only possible in video games, but sadly I don’t see it used all that often outside of visual novels. Some of the world-building is done this way. For example, when Rona explains how she consumes a core, you could ask her what it tastes like. She’ll give you a funny look and say that it tastes like raw eggs XD.

Normally, I’d play a bit more before reviewing a game but after 2 hours I’ve beaten the first stage and have a pretty solid opinion of the game. I’ll update this review once I beat the game but, for now, some pros and cons…
The Good:
This is a fantastic Mega Man meets rogue-lite, except replace Mega Man’s lemon dispenser with melee weapons. At the hub you choose a themed stage and boss, each stage has multiple levels and when you beat the boss, you get a themed ability based on the boss’s abilities.

Super Mutant Alien Assault
Update almost a year later: Still awesome, buy immediately.
tl;dr
Super Mutant Alien Assault is an unashamed Super Crate Box clone, and with good reason: it’s every bit as addicting as it’s paragon, but adds it’s own twists.
words
Super Mutant Alien Assault is an arcade platformer shooter, where you play a tiny robot combating an onslaught of mutant aliens. The controls are solid (the only gripe I have is not being able to remap the d-pad to make the pad controls mimic the keyboard controls), the graphics are excellent some of the best art I’ve seen in a long while. The music is okay and the sounds are passable.

IN A NUTSHELL:
Super Mutant Alien Assault is a frantic roguelite with a huge selection of weapons and items, all wrapped up in a beautiful pixel art package and made even better by the addition of couch co-op.
I’m told that Super Mutant Alien Assault is a lot like Super Crate Box, but since I haven’t played SCB (and maybe you haven’t either), I’ll give you a quick rundown on the idea of Super Mutant Alien Assault:
The game is broken down into 3 zones (each comprised of 3 regular levels followed by a boss fight). Every level randomly presents you with one of a handful objectives ranging from surviving until a timer runs out, to shutting off devices before they catastrophically overheat, to retrieving fuel rods from one part of the map and depositing them in another location. Along the way, you’re beset by a variety of enemies (the titular aliens) and, true to form, “game over” is a single death away.
