Fallback

Fallback

It’s got a lot of spirit, but has some issues in places. With the right approach, it’s a pretty fun rogue-like, but at the moment, it’s also easy to run into some annoying experiences. This review is probably overly thorough, so just read the last paragraph if you’re not really stuck on whether to buy it or not.

Moving through the 3 dimensional environment through connected 2 dimensional planes takes a bit of getting used to, can result in some unintuitive movement (usually involving jumping off ladders or ledges that transition between 2 perpendicular planes), and has painfully tight tolerances in some places. However, thorough exploration of the levels is often well rewarded. Also, a good understanding of how the movement works lets you traverse the levels faster and can even provide an advantage in combat situations from time to time.

```Fallback is a new roguelike set in a post-apocalyptic era, where the surface of the earth has been affected by a giant ecological disaster that forced mankind underground. In this subterranean world, humanity succeeded in inventing machines that could do most of the dirty work, such as mining and establishing living conditions. But over time, the machines gained the intelligence to turn against humanity, quickly overpowering their creators, imprisoning and forcing many to do labor themselves.
## Choice Chamber
This review is from the perspective of a streamer ( twitch.tv/aazzdos ) and someone that has reached Room 475.
Choice Chamber is a platformer. Your objective is to clear a room of all enemies in order to proceed to the next one. The defining difference between this game and others in the same genre is that your Twitch chat votes on how the next level will be different, from the terrain to the enemies to your very own weapon. Voting follows majority rule, and chat has almost full power over how a run will go.
--- Okay, so there's an obvious caveat to my recommendation here. This game is for streamers, and pretty much _only_ for streamers. This game won't get you an audience, either. But if you livestream, and you already have an audience—even a small one—then this game is fantastic. It's not the most fun game of its kind, and can occasionally get repetitive… especially if your chatroom decides to troll you and keep you underpowered. But it always seems to be the case that as one slowly improves at the game, their stream community follows suit. I often point out and even pick on users of the "streamer 'we'", but this is one game where it really does apply—it really is not just the gamer but also the spectators that are making progress, and for the streamer to say "we're in there" or "we made it" is, at last, not at all disingenuous for this game. This game is clearly for a very limited demographic, but if you fit that demographic, Choice Chamber should serve you quite well. *– [Real player with 29.8 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198289446169)* --- ![Arc Wizards 3](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1504660/header.jpg "") ## Arc Wizards 3 My full S Rank play through here: https://youtu.be/YXQJ0dCfOlM Game is a 7 out of 10 for me the creator definitely improved on it from naginata your sprite is still thicc compared to the enemies but I don't believe your noggin in this game has near the girth of the geisha from naginata. I like that he added an upgrade system for your weapon in this one where when you get special move bar filling items your shot upgrades and if you take damage you lose it pretty nice reward for not taking damage. Bat form is so much better than jumping as well it can be irresponsive at times for reasons I couldn't pinpoint but it's a DEFINITE imrpovement to jumping in naginata. The special move in this SUCKS terribly compared to naginata. Stage 3 is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo long and one thing that would take this game a long way is instead of focusing on making the game more difficult by making stages longer and adding a greater number of enemies would be adding different mechanics for enemy attacks quality quantity. Another change that would be super beneficial in this game but possibly a lot of work would be some kind of upgrade shop where you can unlock different attacks, special skills, etc. it would add replay value and just make the game a whole lot more entertaining. Definitely glad the creator made improvements though! *– [Real player with 1.0 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198043918784)* ---
--- Update: So, I was able to play again, and was doing rather well now that I understand what to do and how to do it. It was nice after a certain stage that when I died I could reload and try again from the same point, and not have to completely start over. Unfortunately, the game froze again and the character stopped responding to the controls. This really needs to be fixed because the only thing to do at that point is to close down the game which just makes me not want to play again. So until this issue is fixed, I cannot change my rating. Once that issue is fixed, I will change my rating from "No, I do not recommend," to, "Yes, I recommend this game." *– [Real player with 0.7 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561199130397998)* --- ![Bow & Quiver](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1544630/header.jpg "") ## Bow & Quiver #### Velocity impacts damage and distance of arrows and smash attacks. ![](https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1544630/extras/BQ1.gif?t=1625640767) #### Combo stomp attacks to maximize damage ![](https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1544630/extras/BQ2.gif?t=1625640767) #### Ammo Type: Lightning Arrows: ![](https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1544630/extras/BQ3.gif?t=1625640767) #### Dynamic Character Controls ![](https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1544630/extras/CharControlls7.png?t=1625640767) ![](https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1544630/extras/promo.png?t=1625640767) --- ![Critadel](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/808010/header.jpg "") ## Critadel Fun little side scroller, love the graphics and the music is upbeat and keeps ya going. Boss designs are awesome, the weapons are awesome … well the ones I've gotten so far. I just gotta get use to the dodging and get better at it. Only up to lvl 5 so far, that slime boss is tough but ... I'll get em! *– [Real player with 13.2 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198104327772)* I love the clear, beautiful spritework on this game, specially the bosses. The main protagonists of this roguelite, however, are the weapons, they are really varied and pretty fun to learn to use. Even the ones that at the beginning seem crappy grow on you. The controls are great and the music is ok. My only gripe would be that the three main characters aren't really that different between each other. Great game that promises a lot of hours of fun. *– [Real player with 8.6 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198422181749)* --- ![Feral Flowers](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1763060/header.jpg "") ## Feral Flowers Feral Flowers is a quick-fire roguelite platformer. Battle against the clock to rid your nostrils of that which makes you sneeze. --- ![Kungfu Cowboy](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1499220/header.jpg "") ## Kungfu Cowboy I stumbled upon KFCowboy when I was browsing Steam for new games to play. The game title first caught my attention because it sounded unique and funny and the game looked quite fun from the trailer too. I would best describe the game as a mix of Celeste-like platforming with bullet-hell action of Enter The Gungeon. You're constantly fighting enemies and dashing thru spiked platforms while avoiding getting hit. The gameplay is quite challenging, but I like that the runs are fairly short so it never feels tiring when going for another one. You gain exp the more you play and you are able to unlock new weapons with exp. Each weapon has it's own unique boosts and you are able to stack different ones together to create different builds so it adds a lot of depth and replayability. The enemy variety is great and there's even some friendly NPCs that you meet along the way that help you out. Also, the music in the game SLAPS. It's catchy and has a western/Chinese vibe to it. *– [Real player with 13.4 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198959456601)* Great game to play with friends. You can choose to play the roguelike run mode (PVE) or arena style shooter mode (PVP). The run mode is pretty chill and it took me and my friends a couple of hours to beat the game. We unlocked hard mode, which is the regular mode but ON STEROIDS. The platforming and enemies are way harder, but I quite like the challenge. Each weapon has their own unique upgrades which makes the game play very differently from run to run. The PVP arena mode is so much fun too. It's definitely a lot more fun the more people you have so I recommend playing with at least 4 players. There's online matchmaking, but I think the player base is still quite small so I wasn't able to matchmake with other players. I highly suggest grabbing this game with a few buddies for the PVP. *– [Real player with 10.7 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561199178538912)* --- ![Magic Potion Millionaire](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1461630/header.jpg "") ## Magic Potion Millionaire I was pleasantly surprised by this game, which was made by only one person. In my eyes, it's a bit like a Maplestory-lite, with an idle game thrown in there about halfway through. It's very grindy, so it's definitely a game for a specific niche, but it's fun and avoids the trappings of "roguelikes", which it somewhat inaccurately describes itself as. Genre nitpicking aside, it's a fantastic game with tight controls, great sound & music, and a charming atmosphere. Give it a try if you like collectathons/grinding games. *– [Real player with 54.5 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198066582549)* this game is rather fun, although it can be a bit grindy. the varied environments and the powerful soundtrack keep the game interesting throughout the entire experience. i'm looking forward to the next game in this series. *– [Real player with 40.4 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198132557116)* --- ![Tallowmere 2: Curse of the Kittens](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/655740/header.jpg "") ## Tallowmere 2: Curse of the Kittens THIS IS THE BEST. GAME. EVER. No hyperbole, no exaggeration, no lie. I would have said that for Developer Chris McFarland's first Tallowmere, where I have over 1300 hours playing, by far the most of the nearly 2000 Games I own on Steam…but his Tallowmere 2 scratched every itch for a second game I didn't even realize I itched for. Not only masterful, and a perfect improvement on the Original, IMHO, but you get to a point where you can play reflexively; eliminates stress, pain and any downfall while making for a challenging, exhilarating second outing. Pandemic? Tallowmere 2\. Bonkers US Election? Tallowmere 2\. Worst Year ever? Best Game ever. I'd gained 200 hours playing the Tallowmere 2 Demo, prior to the long-awaited E.A. Release Dec. 4th...and it STILL feels like new. I suppose it could be worse that the biggest shining, glowing Event of the Year is the release of a Game, rather than some personal accomplishment...but then...this Game really is THAT good! Too bad I couldn't Nominate THIS game a week prior to its' release. IT'S. REALLY. THAT. GOOD. (UPDATE- NOV 2021- I DID NOMINATE THIS GAME FOR 2021 GAME OF THE YEAR!! So, I DID get my chance to Nominate what I STILL adamantly maintain is the BEST. GAME. EVER.!!!! My play-time since I wrote this review should speak for itself, too :) I hope y'all have found as much enjoyment with Tallowmere 2 as I have :) ) *– [Real player with 283.7 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198030163339)* I've wrenched myself away from _Tallowmere 2: Curse of the Kittens_ in order to proclaim it a bloody triumph. "Wrenched" is both completely honest & a total lie: I'd've played for another three hours straight with nary a pause for _any_ reason – mind-blowing sex included -- if I'd not been _brutally_ murdered the second I thought, "I am now an unstoppable god." I'm already itching to duel katanas again, so I'll make this as quick as I am in bed & hopefully return for a more thorough review at a later date. Suffice it (for now) to say that fans of clever quick roguelikes are in for a treat. Fans of beautiful pixel art are also in for a treat. Fans of violence & gore are similarly in for a chunky, oozing treat. *– [Real player with 112.3 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198064473900)* --- ![Arc Wizards](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1406080/header.jpg "") ## Arc Wizards A simple, straightforward arcade game that makes for a fun playthrough. The controls are responsive (with shooting slowing down your movement, so it requires at least a touch of strategy), and the graphics are crisp 16-bit stile, with some animatino. Enemies appear when you advance beyond a certain point, meaning the best plan is to frequentl stop and deal with enemies before advancing. This causes a slower pacing than your average run-n-gun title, but not so much that the game isn't fun. It's entirely possible to trigger a few too many enemies and find yourself overwhelmed or having to do some tricky manneuvering. *– [Real player with 0.9 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198073616227)* meh *– [Real player with 0.1 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198061241392)* ---
