Project Wingman

Project Wingman

Project Wingman feels like playing an Ace Combat game, but where Ace Combat flirts a little with it’s crazier aspects, Project Wingman embraces them. And it is all the better for it.

It takes a lot for a game with a campaign to get me to actually finish it because I usually end up distracted by another game before I do so. But with PW I haven’t just cleared it once, but multiple times already. Sometimes I just play a few missions for no other reason than that the game is just that much fun and I have nothing else quite like it.

A beautiful post-rapture future in which California has finally been destroyed with all of its subhuman inhabitants, and all warfare is fought by huge swarms of advanced jet fighters. Where mercenary units can afford warplanes that would bankrupt small nations, and wars are fought over “Cordium,” a magic rock that allows scientists to subvert the inverse-square law.

Welcome to Project Wingman.

It’s best not to think of this game as a jet pilot simulator. It is a jet pilot movie simulator, much like Ace Combat. You control a warplane with an absurd capacity for missiles, and slaughter tens of thousands of enemies, like a wrathful god soaring on wings of steel. Play through a memorable campaign full of shocking twists and intensely frustrating missions. Replay these missions with a wide variety of jets, from clunky but awesome ground attack planes to sleek, sexy air superiority fighters. After you get bored of that, Conquest Mode may tickle your desire to fight 50 airships in one mission. There’s not a lot to say: If you’ve run out of Ace Combat games to play, pick this one up.

Sky Gamblers: Storm Raiders

Sky Gamblers: Storm Raiders

Time for yet another review…well Sky gamblers: Storm Raiders has some good and bad points but then that’s the same with many games made today, Firstly some good points the graphics are fair (medium) the music very good and gameplay is good too, There are plenty of missions to do and multiplayer is good too.

It has a score system to increase rank and unlock new planes which you get from completing missions and shooting down planes or sinking ships or destroying buildings also the maps are not too bad.

Sky Gamblers Storm Raiders is a simple, arcade WW2 flight simulator that’s enjoyable for a couple of hours.

The game covers a number of historical WW2 battles including Pearl Harbour, the battle for England etc. and the campaign brings you many of the typical locations you expect from a WW2 game, like France, Britain, Germany and the Pacific.

As an Android port, graphics are not as polished as some AAA titles but the game is still fun to play.

Pros:

  • classic dogfights

  • easy controls

  • supports joystick, keyboard and mouse

Red Wings: Aces of the Sky

Fun Arcade flight shooter (crimson sky vibes). The most efficient way to kill enemies is to barrel roll(you are invulnerable) into them.

No idea what the single player story is all about, narrative is all over the place. Replayability comes from unlocking 3 stars for each mission.

To unlock skins, there are stages that require chaining kills to get your combo meter going to attain high score (this is the worst aspect of the entire game). Unlike combo games(Arkham Batman), the enemy AI will focus on you. Here the enemy planes are flying all over the place, reducing your chance to chain your combo meaningfully.

In my opinion this game deserves a better rating than the 60% it currently has.

Many of the negative ratings are related to the fact that the base game is basically what was the demo prior to release and that the full game is contained in the DLC.

This was a somewhat unorthodox and really unfortunate decision made by All in! Games, because the DLC representing the full game has almost no ratings, while a big part of the negative base game ratings are likely from demo-only players and most positive base game ratings are likely from DLC buyers.

Angel Flare

Angel Flare

Pros:

  • Good art.

  • Decent graphics.

  • It has some fun.

Cons:

  • Gameplay needs improvement. Like a way to evade seeker projectiles without thrusting.

  • Story doesn’t seem too good.

  • It has problem when scrolling the menus (it take too much time to scroll down or scroll up with the mouse wheel), although you can left click and drag to go up and down on the lists.

  • It makes my GPU’s temperature go super high, and I have two NVIDIAs 1070GT.

I give it a 6.5/10.

The gameplay is ok.

Cyber Defense 2088

This was absolutely a fun game! I thought the concept was really cool, coming from the mobile tower defense world it was definitely an adjustment.

The game itself was visually pleasing, there weren’t any bright blinding lights, everything you needed menu wise while not actively fighting in game was condensed into one area. There’s a little bit of lore to the game, not hugely interactive as far as storyline goes but it sets the right pace and for the type of game it is, didn’t really need it.

It is not so bad, but I can’t recommend it.

The campaign mechanics is very interesting, you control a group of 6 pilots in Iceland during a Russian Invasion (Tom Clancy Style), you can choose a pilot to control and you can change to other pilot at any moment, this is useful because there are simultaneous missions, this can be overwhelming at first but is simple.

The campaign is huge apparently, I played more than 5 hours and I cant see the end of this, the campaign is in real time starting a 8:30 hrs on day 1. and you can speed up the time 10x, I have played the equivalent to 16 hours in game time.

This is a game and by no means a simulator. If you want that, go look at titles like Falcon 4 or DCS. It just tries to look somewhat authentic to a complete amateur, but it doesn’t work realistically in any way.

Do I recommend it? Yes. It can be quite fun to play. Reading the quite comprehensive, but mostly superfluous manual isn’t really necessary, as long as you have a keyboard chart. It is still fairly old, however, so getting it to run may be a challenge.

It does bring something new to the aircraft game genre in that you control several individual pilots at the same time, in real time, while also experiencing a somewhat interesting story through news broadcasts on the remote island of Iceland.

Flyland Wars: 1 Mountain Climb

Flyland Wars: 1 Mountain Climb

Flyland Wars is more of a puzzle game than a straight-up action game. It only contains one level with two enemies but it took me a long time to figure out how to beat it. You can’t just rush in and killshot the laser like you’d expect, you need to read the stories in the trainer and part 1 to win. If you’re looking for a basic shoot-em-up, this game might not be for you, but if you want the satisfaction of beating what seems to be at first an unbeatable enemy, Mountain Climb may be more up your alley. The developer has prioritized gameplay over graphics, although the main menu UI is improved from the trainer. There are still some bugs and sometimes unresponsive controls, but Mountain Climb is a pretty good $3.99 challenge.

FREEDOM: Hunt Kill Fly

FREEDOM: Hunt Kill Fly

I was finally able to find fishes near the rocks (4 set of semi submerged rocks) near the edge of the lake.

You must fly low and slow.

Come back in a hurry to nest, but eventually death bar will end process way too early.

By the way, the fishes on that spot are big, and plenty adequate for a meal to eaglettes.

They should not be already starving with such a generous quantities of food.

But that timer from hell does not think so.

Flying through the floating stars benefit no one.

You must collect a number of them, but impossible to do since timer shoots you out of the sky.

To be clear…I would recommend the game for under a $, like I paid and under the hopes that the Game goes anywhere. I would like to see better controls. Currently the right stick is used for speed and I would rather the triggers. I would also like to be able to look around while flying. The Demo is also incredibly short.

This is not a game. This is not even an artsy non-game. This is just… nothing. There’s nothing here, nothing to do.

If this were early access and still a work in progress, I would not mind, but there’s no indication on the store page that this isn’t a compete game. I have no idea whether or not more will be added in the future, but for now, I advise against wasting your time. There is no enjoyment of any kind to be had from this title.

RC Airplane Challenge

RC Airplane Challenge

RC Airplane Challenge allows you to experience what it’s like being in an RC plane with different kids of challenges. Each of the different planes seems to have almost a different handle to them with some being faster than others and some that are slower with different looks and sounds. There is just something about flying in VR that let’s the world around you be forgotten. Being Early Access, there are some things that are being worked on, but I can’t wait to see what the final build will be.
