Everything about this game makes it the perfect remake except for a few things such as the physics, not great UI, and some lackluster production value here and there. Those are, however, only slight negatives in the grand view of things as playing this game is a blast and there’s enough fun and exciting content here to last many hours.

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD

After playing through a string of story heavy games, I wanted to take a break from the immense amount of dialogue and play something more purely gameplay focused. While nominating games for the 2020 Steam Awards, reading the most innovative gameplay category made Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD pop into my head (which I ended up nominating for that category). Turns out this was exactly the type of game I was looking for.

While there are some platformer elements, Super Monkey Ball has the unique twist of giving the player control of tilting the stage, as opposed to moving the character on it. The resulting gameplay is unlike any other game and offers a refreshing set of challenges, even to players who have conquered numerous other genres. Being purely skill based, nothing is left to chance, no equipment will make the game easier, and the only leveling up is the skill gained from practicing, failing, and learning. Gameplay is quick to hop into and the perfect amount of time between failing a stage and respawning is enough to think about what can be improved, but not so much that failing becomes an annoyance. There is an assortment of playable characters each offering different stats and the stages themselves are tuned to this, with various intricacies that may make the stage easier or harder depending on the character played.

Kinda posting this review a tad late. I don’t think I’ve made my thoughts clear on this game just yet, but I know some people are taking newfound interest in the Monkey Ball series with the release of Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania on the horizon, so I want to express my thoughts on this game now.

I’ll just get this out of the way: Banana Blitz is not a fun Monkey Ball game . To many, this game is seen as a pretty good platformer, and I can get by that thought, but the way this game is structured does not fall in line with what makes a Monkey Ball game work, and it’s all because of one fatal flaw in this game’s design: jumping.

The aesthetics and artstyle is really amazing! The controls are smooth and responsive so you’ll have no issues with that. The soundtrack is spot on and fits very well.

Overall a cute and fun game if you’re looking something similar to Super Monkey Ball. There is room for polishing this game for sure but you’ll have no issues playing this game so give it a try!

A Great addition to the marble genre! it has good platforming, minigames unlocked from secrets found in levels, and customizatiion of the “marble”, in this case a squirrel in a glass ball. You can play it fast or slow too, which i enjoy in platformers. Squirreltastic!

Pain Party

Pain Party

Story

After an unfortunate mini golf accident (which led to your immediate demise) you wake up in purgatory.

This is not the classical purgatory that we’ve all read about, but instead is a Japanese game show where the winners get to ascend and the losers get to spend an eternity moderating online forums without any kind of monetary compensation.

About the game

Pain Party combines that madness of a party game with the mechanics of a souls like and precision jumping.

You can either play PvP with up to 16 players or play offline in the single player mode, where you have to beat levels to unlock further progression.

Gameplay

Stamina management and Item usage

The first thing you need to learn is that everything in pain party costs stamina, from jumping, punching, dodging, to even using items.

If you run out of stamina you won’t be able to do any of that above and you’ll also walk slower so keep a close eye on that stamina meter.

There a lot of ways to get the upper hand in Pain Party, spawn-able items are one such thing.

You might find anything from blunderbusses to time stopping hour glasses.

Precision jumping

Jumping in Pain Party isn’t like in other games. Holding the jump button will make you do high but short jumps, while tapping the jump button will make you do long horizontal jumps.

Progress and unlock

Winning multiplayer matches and progressing in story mode will help you unlock skins for your character.

Features

  • Single player story mode

  • Up to 16 players online free-for-all

  • Demanding levels that will test your skills and endurance

  • Painful boss battles

  • Physics based pain

  • Precise movement and combat

  • Special item pickups to give the upper hand

  • Unlockable hats/masks

Splinter Zone

Splinter Zone

Alright so I’m only an hour and a bit into this but

I have to write a review on this because the game needs them and first impressions are always important for getting a game.

Splinter Zone is almost what happens if you have Vlambeer remake Megaman 1-3.

Here’s what I mean by that:

If you have played Megaman’s 1 to 3, some of the level segments will feel VERY familiar. .So will some of the enemy behaviours. This is not a bad thing. It’s charmingly familiar.

The Vlambeer part comes in with this RIDICULOUSLY MEATY GUN NOISES and the OBLIGATORY SCREENSHAKE (which you can tone down if you wish in the settings). I cannot tell you how delicious the explosions are too, you have to see them for yourself.

I love this game. The controls are really on point. The shooting, especially when you’re on a higher level, is so much fun. There is so much variation in the construction of the worlds. I have to admit, that it’s not the easiest game I played so far but I love the challenge and it’s still fun because I’m getting better every time I play it.

The enemies seem to be easy targets most of the time but there are quite a few that can be really tedious. All the more fun when you’ve figured out their weak spot. The most interesting part about this game seems to be, that when you’re on a certain skill-level, you can pretty much go on forever. But I think, there’s more to it, than to just beat your own highscore over and over again. The story seems to be, that you can decide for yourself, if you wanna stay in this sourrounding of shoot, kill, die, repeat or if there’s a way out of it. I’ve yet to find this way, but I’m eager to progress towards this alternative goal.

Bubble Breaking

Bubble Breaking

Bubble Breaking is an action arcade game. Players can use mouse or gamepad to pop bubbles. The bubbles come in different sizes (depths) and they rise at different speeds. When bubbles are popped points are scored. The smaller, faster bubbles score more points than the bigger, slower bubbles. There is also an accuracy multiplier. Each successive popped bubble increases the multiplier to a max of 10x the base point value. If the player misses a bubble, whether by mouse or keyboard, the multiplier is resets back to 1x. Beware of the ‘stink’ bubbles! If you accidently pop one of them your score will be dragged down with the fishes.

the levels are pretty cool, reminds me a little of golden eye. The shooting is satisfying and could be a decent aim trainer.
