Putrefaction 2: Void Walker

Putrefaction 2: Void Walker

Moving on from 2015’s poor man’s Doom 3 to 2017’s poor man’s Doom 2016: Putrefaction 2 improves upon almost every flaw of its predecessor and shows how a one-man-project is done the old-school way. My expectations were kept at bottom level, but this game took me elsewhere: the efforts of searching for a decent low-budget FPS are finally coming to fruition, never ever did I think it would conquer such heights, literally. Without overhyping something of such small scale, Oleg Kazakov most certainly earned my respect for making this little gem so damn fun.

Introduction

Putrefaction 2: Void Walker is a first person shooter in an post-apocalyptic mystical world setting, similar to Doom or Quake. It contains a lot of shooting simple AI, upgrading weapons and jumping for puzzles or progress.

Gameplay & Story: 5/10

The story continues the first part of the series Putrefaction - after killing the boss in the first part you get teleported by a strange being into a new world where you have to chase after some special power that this being wants to possess. Besides running, shooting and jumping you wont have much to do in this game. The dialogs between the main character and the “skull” inside his head are supposed to be funny, but they reminded me so much of Duke Nukem and Serious Sam, where it was fun for the first time but gets old too quick. Some secrets were hidden really well and I had to use a guide to find them to not spend hours just searching for a secret for finishing an achievement. It is possible to upgrade some of your character stats and weapons by gathering energy from fallen enemies or finding secret spots. The weapons can gain special abilities like setting enemies on fire or stunning them, which gives little RPG feeling to this First Person shooter.

Quantum League

Quantum League

If you read the synopses of the game and it sounds cool to you, you’d like it. It’s as simple as that. It takes this concept and executes it super well, with satisfying, fast paced gunplay to boot. All complaints are minor quality of life ones or from people misunderstanding how the game works.

The game plays seamlessly with this “time paradox” concept. Everything you do matters and in the future you have to consider what your past lives did, what your opponent did, and the timings of all those things. That can sound complex, but generally people are just playing 1 on 1, and you’ll get the concepts soon. You can win by being the best at shooting or you can win by outsmarting your opponent. Do both for a round or two and you’ll feel like an unstoppable genius. When someone kills you and pre-emptively outsmarts you, you’ll be impressed at how they cut you off at every turn. Other reviews complain about some strategies they feel is unfair - you can safely ignore them. This game’s strategy is deep and tactics that seem unstoppable can be punished brutally when you realize their weaknesses. Racing a health pack can seem an obvious good play - denying it to your opponent can’t be bad, right? - but now you have a large portion of the round that you are now vulnerable. And heading to the health packs puts you in the open - a future clone can kill you when you are there. And leaving a gunfight to grab a health pack can leave your past clones helpless.

I love this game! I bought it the day it was released in Early Access (Around May 2020). I LOVE time travel and I like FPS games, so I was super hyped for this game! (It’s right up my alley!) There’s not many players that have the game, so a lot of the time you’ll be waiting in the queue for a while.

I strongly advise joining the Quantum League Discord server, and adding a few people from there to avoid the long queue problem. I put a tag next to a bunch of new friends and acquaintances on Steam saying “QL” So I can search for a match more easily. A general chat feature would be a good addition to the game, as well as a way to join people directly from Discord if possible. I’ll suggest that on the Official Discord, if either/both haven’t been suggested already.

I have mixed feelings about this game, especially at it’s current state. It’s straight up Abandonware, and it’s been that way since Steam put it back up on the Store in 2016. It kinda sucks that the game went down like it did because it looked like it had a lot of potential to have a massive playerbase and community, only for THQ to defunct and take Nexuiz with them. If you were to look in the reviews, workshop, community, and discussions, you can see a huge gap between all the positive reviews from 2012 and all the negative reviews from 2016 to present day.

Final Impressions:

The Medal Master achivement appears, presently, to be unachiveable, as no medals seem to be produced from bot matches and there are insufficient players for proper pvp/quick matches.

The issue with speed vs. fire rate for several weapons still seems to apply (not a lag issue) and this is unfortunate and makes, at least for me, a handful of the weapons totally useless.

I would recommend this game if it were picked up in a bundle and/or certainly if it becomes free. As a standalone purchase however, this game has an insufficient player base to justify the expense.

Alien Shooter - Last Hope

Alien Shooter - Last Hope

Alien Shooter - Last Hope

Alien Shooter - Last Hope is the newest title in the legendary lineup from the Alien Shooter games. And like every other Alien Shooter title, Last Hope also brings in that familiar taste of intense gory goodness.

In addition to that familiar intense fun shoot ‘em up experience, Last Hope is also bringing in a new chapter to the legendary series with 10 new missions.

TL;DR: If you liked the original Alien Shooter, have another 5 dollars to spare and ready for a bit new turret-based gameplay than you can safely buy and play. If you need a closer camera similar to the original just change the resolution to the lowest one - the picture quality doesn't really worsen anyway.

Initially, when I saw The Last Hope I considered it another lame remaster of the original to make more money, however, when I looked into description I was surprised to know that The Last Hope is actually a brand new title in the series.

## Armada

Really fun game to play with your friends. I'm astonished that the audio was created by someone's mouth.

The trailer is exactly what the game is. It's a nice little indie game to play with your friends and mess around on.

The game could use a server list so you can join public servers or a discord where we can find other players.

If you enjoy small indie games to play with your friends, Armada is an exceedingly great choice for such an experience. The game is exactly as it seems, a simple navel combat game. You have a ship, two cannons, a gun, and a sword. There's no directed objectives, but the game doesn't have much else than the ships. It is mutiplayer, so just jump in a server and have some fun. A unique feature of this game is the audio design, which seems to be (and is, according to the developer.) someone's mouth making all of the noises. All in all, this game's price tag is defiantly worth it if you find yourself with some spare time and you find yourself in a discord call. I hope you enjoy playing this game as much as I do, and I hope to see you in public lobbies!

## Cyberfrags '69

It's time to get your blood up with some lightning-speed FPS action! Double-jump, wall-run, slide, and shoot your way to victory in PvP, Co-op, and single-player. In CF69, the fastest way to die is to stop moving. So don't.

Single-player:

The Cyber-Nazis have come, and Cyber-Frank is pissed. Grab your hyperspace arsenal and get to fragging ranks of fascist assholes.

Multiplayer:

Play classic game modes like Free-For-All, Capture-the-Flag, and Team-Deathmatch, or test your platforming skills in Death-Relay. Small 6-player maps keep things ultra-fast, so you'd best start practicing, You're gonna need it.

## Evil Buster

I thought that was was quite a cool quirky little game - decent movement, pretty good graphics considering it's pixel arty type. Music is not bad and the levels are progressively more difficult. The AI for the zombies and baddies is not the best, they could easily swamp you once your weapon is cooling down,. but they ain't that bright…...............

So for the price I thought ok, not bad, a little pricey but hey.

Now the bad stuff, firstly you get to World 3 Stage 9 and you are stuck in a wall and cannot move, ok - even worse there is no way to reset the game if you wanted to start over - no save files anywhere - nothing - so now I am stuck on level 9 - can not even go back and play lower levels - was going to showcase the game on YT but not now, as I cannot start a fresh game. Also the achievements don't work. Sad Sad Sad - so until they fix the 'new game' and the stuck in the wall issue, then don't waste your money or your time - Sorry Imperium Game I liked the game up until those previous points

Absolutely Sensational Experience. Unfortunately World 3 Level 9 Spawn is broken and you spawn in the walls and are unable to move
