This was terrible. No ammo to be found, the survival meters go down so so quickly. Shooting zombies feels underwhelming. Overall, very boring and just awful.

Dear Home

Dear Home

Dear Home is a unique blend between a sandbox game and a “pushing-blocks / sokoban” kind of game. It focuses on exploring and collecting natural resources from your environment, while the quest items or some more rare materials are obtained by solving small puzzles.

You use the mouse or the keyboard to control a robot that just arrived on an unknown planet, together with 3 talkative spaceship modules. One of them landed right next to you and talking to it / completing the quests that it gives you will act more or less as a short introduction meant to show you the basic mechanics. You’ll find out that the robot can gather soil and mine stone, which can then be used for unlocking new research entries or crafting items.

First impression: medium-sized exploration puzzle game.

This is a first impression because I got killed by a T-Rex on my first playthrough, which has never happened to me in a Sokoban-style game before. This game is special! The premise is that you have a tech tree that allows you to mine resources and build stuff, and for some research you need unique materials that you can get by solving box-pushing puzzles that are scattered around the environment. This is all good fun except for wo things:

  1. The inventory is quite limited, and you can’t discard unique resources. If you pick up puzzle rewards you don’t yet need, you may find yourself unable to complete the research you need to progress (e.g. to unölock a bigger inventory).

Riverbond

The overall presentation is great. Its fun with a good atmosphere that is very upbeat. The sound compliments the game. The only problem with a game as polished as this it needs a variety of game modes beyond the levels. Maybe I haven’t unlocked them yet, I don’t know. I have only played half way through the game. I know i could play the same level over and over again. But may be a local/online pvp free for all or some player vs environment mode like Boss Battle etc. Some RPG elements possibly as well. I’m hoping DLCs in the future will add to what I think is already an awesome game and worth every penny as far as I’m concerned..

Caverns: Lost Sky

Caverns: Lost Sky

I am enjoying this game a lot! The caverns themselves are fun and exciting. Tunneling to new caverns is slow paced, but relaxing. The game has improved frequently and the devs quickly fixed a couple bugs I was having.

Gameplay tips:

1. Use stat points in the beginning on strength for capacity.

2. Save often.

3. Prioritize crafting pick axes and then weapons before any other items. Always carry at least a few spare pick axes because they break fast.

4. Find a torch before tunneling to fully appreciate your tunnels.

Real player with 10.2 hrs in game

It’s very satisfying to dig and tunnel to discover massive unexplored caverns with fancy chests, resources, and to awkardly encounter what seems like a family gathering of many challenging enemies.

You never know what’s in each cavern you’re tunneling into. Each cavern is wholely unqiue in it’s layout, size and what’s inside. Some caverns are a lot more valuable than others or substantially more deadly. The game will keep you on your toes when you hear the creepy noises of the powerful and quick enemies or when you have to carefully navigate around treacherous plant species.

Miasma Caves

Miasma Caves

The gameplay of Miasma Caves is very simple: Explore a cave, find treasure, escape alive to sell said treasure in town, repeat.

The Cons:

  • No Automap (for an exploration game this is a huge drawback)

  • Intermediate cave levels are a bottleneck in difficulty (rocks fall, everybody dies faints)

  • Not much of a story

  • A few minor bugs

The Pros:

  • Over 150 different treasure items of 4 different categories

  • Town can be developed

  • A lot of variety in available tools, which allows for different approaches of exploration.

Real player with 150.1 hrs in game

I have played enough Miasma Caves to recommend it. You play a dragon-lady who spelunks a procedurally-generated cave in search of treasure and you’re a pacifist, so that means that you don’t attack any of the monsters inside. But you still can get hurt (such as from cave-ins, and falls, and the titular miasma), and there’s still a challenge in seeing how far you can go whilst getting out alive! It’s a fun game and I recommend it to anyone, especially those who loved Leila “Woofle” Wilson’s soundtrack in Freedom Planet; some of the greatness in that soundtrack is carried over in this game.
