Steven Universe: Unleash the Light

Steven Universe: Unleash the Light

I love this franchise and the light series is one of the best Innovative fun RPG I had played in years.

I was really looking forward to play the 3rd game so much after (SAVE THE LIGHT) and

here I am.

On the Downside this game was created for mobile market first so expect

downgrade from the second game that was develop for console instead.

It is like the first game (ATTACK THE LIGHT), but other than that it still have

elements of surprises of the second game had. The game feels like a little

If you’re a fan of steven universe you should enjoy this game greatly! Not technically necessary to have played the previous two, but I definitely recommend it.

Fair warning: Unlike save the light, which was developed for consoles from the start, this game was originally mobile only (apple arcade). As such, movement is restricted to just transitioning between grids on an overall map like in the very first game which was mobile only (attack the light) rather than full free movement like in save the light. Regardless, the result is a game that’s a lot more stable than save the light was on release (which, from what I recall, was grumpyface’s first venture into making a non-mobile game, and still an amazing experience)

Jagged Alliance: Rage!

Jagged Alliance: Rage!

Хорошо! Я буду работать на тебя, проклятый капиталист!

Fine! I will be working for you, you bloody capitalist!

~Ivan Dolvich

Jagged Alliance is a unique franchise. With the first two games being incredibly good and majority of the games that came afterwards being incredibly bad, nowadays, the Jagged Alliance name has a weird effect on people. If you’ll call your game “Jagged Alliance”, it’ll mean two things. First, the people would buy it. Because the original games were that good. Second, the people would bh about it. Because, obviously, the Jagged Alliance games would never be the same. For many reasons. Even Firaxis Games' XCOM is not the same with the one from Mythos Games. Sure, the last two Jagged Alliance games are not Firaxis Games' XCOM. Not even close. But I don’t think they’re that bad. I mean, sure, both Russians and Germans fd things up with their Jagged Alliance: Back in Action and Hired Guns. But they’re Russians and Germans! That’s how they make games! Now, with Jagged Alliance: Flashback and Jagged Alliance: Rage! it’s a different story.

From a Co-op perspective alone:

  • First, I’m not at all comparing it with older Jagged Alliance, I haven’t played those. But I’ve played a lot of turn-based games. My buddy and I have been playing the latest version in Aug 2020.

  • You can play complete campaign co-op with a buddy. So Yay!

  • The gameplay is fun and keeps one engaged and always nice to co-ordinate attacks with a buddy or figure out ways to kill the enemy in diff ways

  • Good balance in AP spending and tactical

  • Good maps balance

  • The Rage name is an actual element in the game where you get Rage points which are useful

Paladin Dream

Paladin Dream

Paladin Dream is a turn based RPG in the style of all the old favorite classics. You play as a Paladin going on a journey to find out the meaning of a dream he has been having repeatedly over the years. He leaves the abbey where he has spent his entire life and heads out to find the reason for his dream.

The game was made with RPG Maker, which I know, can leave you questioning how good it really is. But Paladin Dream is a pleasant surprise. With about five hours of gameplay and original music composed by the creator, Paladin Dream stands out where many RPG Maker games may leave you wonderful what the heck you just spent money on.

The tag for this game absolutely should have contained RPG Maker. Seemed decent on the surface with story and game play.

Not really my cup of tea, seems extremely short and balance is jacked up. I beat the game, and here is a quick summary:

  • decent music, don’t know if it is from rpg maker or they made it

-decent design (art) , don’t know if it is from rpg maker or they made it

Very short game, beat in about 4 hours

-half of that was probably grinding to try to overcome the balance

-level 15 cap

I wanted to wait to post a review until I had completely beaten the game- (All of the achievements, that is. Though there is one side-quest I haven’t finished yet). Overall, I really enjoyed the game! I liked the stylized cartoony visuals and the fun Halloween aesthetic! The different Hallowmon were unique looking, and interesting. The open-world is large enough to make it interesting to explore, and the side-quests were also fun. The story being told is intriguing as well, and I of course won’t spoil anything in this review. The extra things you can get by collecting candy is nice too, such as unique trails, and a really cool retro-effect. I’ve had a ton of fun with this game, and I believe that I will continue to enjoy it! I also cannot wait to see what Stratton Studios creates next!

I love this kind of games, short to the point and with a lot of hope for future titles. Everything can become bigger and better! Hope you like battles with mini armies cause that’s what this game is like.

This is a very well designed battle monster game with beautiful artwork and a simple but effective gameplay. Extra points for being fully playable with just the mouse.

Also, about the bad review someone left saying there’s no autobattle, said feature unlocks after finishing some quests, after an hour of playing or so. However is not autobattle like an autochess, where you deploy your gigas and they autofight, is the classic “after you three-star an area you can skip the battle and get the rewards” feature.

TERRACOTTA

TERRACOTTA

Terracotta features a huge number of unique puzzles that will test your creativity. The mysterious ability to channel your YIN allows you to switch realms, paint with light and form walls, activate ancient mechanisms and influence your surroundings freely in a variety of interesting ways.

You will encounter 9 unique bosses, each representing different traditional values, elements of nature and universal laws connected to the phases of the Qi. Each fight will symbolize a different theme and will require you to craft a distinctive strategy using your set of skills in a creative manner.

You have a distinctive ability to switch between the realms of YIN and YANG:

  • YIN represents the ruins of the mausoleum as you’ve found it - where the warriors are just dusty terracotta figures and the walls are dead and empty. It embodies darkness, solitude, tranquility and isolation. It’s the domain of logical thinking, in which you can take your time to devise your strategy as well as prepare and shift your surroundings – channel your energy to create walls, activate mechanisms or summon the power of the elements.

  • YANG, on the other hand, represents the afterlife of the Emperor Qin. In this dimension the spirits are fully awakened and ready to protect the tomb with all their might. It’s the realm of light, rush, disorder and life. In this reality you’ll have to focus on your physical skill while executing the strategy you have prepared. You will have to be as swift as the wind, running, dashing and leaping forward to avoid enemy attacks or collect the sources for YIN.

The game works as a pendulum and finds equilibrium through the endless loop of change between both dimensions.

You are an unarmed soldier, awakened by the energy of Tao deep within the ruins of the mausoleum, surrounded by thousands of warriors that consider you a threat. However, your goal is not to defeat any of them; your purpose is simply to restore the equilibrium of energies once broken in the underworld and lift the curse enslaving these valiant souls.

The game is deeply inspired by the aesthetics of traditional Chinese paintings and takes a deep dive into the history of the Qin dynasty, depicting both the great deeds and the obsessions of the Emperor. Immerse yourself in this captivating portrayal of one of the most fascinating pages of Chinese history from the erection of the Great Wall, incredible military victories, to the unification of the language and the burning of books, all set within splendid gardens full of art and accompanied by a gorgeous soundtrack inspired by traditional Chinese instruments.

In the real world, the Terracotta Army wonder of Xi’an is truly astonishing not only because of its magnitude, but because no two warriors are the same. The game captures the same essence, presenting you with 8,000 unique enemies designed separately and hand-drawn in pixel art.
