Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince

Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince

Playing Trine 4 right after Finishing T1,2 and 3.. The revert and a step back to Trine 2 design rejuvenate my faith for the game.

First of all, the concerning about Trine 4 continuing what they did in Trine 3 is gone. Trine 3 never existed in Trine 4 universe other than the inherrited assets and ideas (which also ruined Trine 4 in a way).

The Devs start a new story in Trine 4 with nothing related to Trine 3. Trine 3 never existed. You don’t get to see the ending of Trine 3, but you also don’t have to worry about getting half a game continued from a previous badly made one. This here is a full game of its own.

achievements

easy 100% - achievements order you to either finish a level or collect all obtainables. plenty of guides, plus it isn’t hard to find them on your own. DLC doesn’t contain any achievements, so you may skip it and still get 100% (unlike in Trine 2)

Trine 2 or Trine 4?

any of them will be good. Trine 4 has better graphics, polished HUD and better UX; Trine 2 has a better puzzle-combat flow. in other words one game nailed the presentation, another got gameplay right - but either of them will be a nice choice. I prefer Trine 2, tho

Lumione

Lumione

Nice hardcore platformer.

Very hard, i would NOT recommend this game to people bad at platformers, who never played one before, or looking for some relaxing gameplay.

For anyone seeking a challenge, this is the game for you.

The floaty jump requires some getting used to. At first i didn’t like it too much but now i think it’s fine. Makes for a unique twist i guess.

Every “section” has a new mechanic and after a couple “tutorial” rooms to learn you’re thrown into a very hard challenge right away.

In short, veteran players will likely greatly enjoy the challenges of the platforming in Lumione.

Edit for clarity: This game is nothing like Ori or Hollow Knight besides the aesthetic. It is not a metroidvania. It is completely linear. The challenges are completely platforming-based. The gameplay is much more akin to Celeste, but the level design is very unique and more difficult than most of Celeste, C-Sides included.

In-depth review below:

Lumione is a very challenging puzzle-focused platforming game. You play as Glimmer, a Fairy of the deep sea. Quickly you are introduced to your main mechanic: A short flight, recovering whenever you touch ground or a bubble. The controls are somewhat floaty, and momentum felt very weird to me at first, but as the difficulty ramped up I started finding that the floaty controls and momentum allowed for very interesting design and challenges in each screen.

Waking

Waking

If you already liked Continue?9876543210 or Skrillex Quest, then better odds of liking this.

If you like existentialism but find walking simulators insufficiently stimulating, Waking may be a good fit for you.

Waking is a strange game. It’s what I guess you’d call a modern 3D platformer like Dark Souls or God of War. And in most games like this, you are the main character, i.e. you are Adam Jensen, Kratos of Sparta, or Sonic the Hedgehog, or the descendant of Erdrick/Loto, or whomever, but in Waking the main character is…you, of [your hometown], descendant of [your parents], etc. Also there’s guided meditation, and no, there is nothing on the screen when she tells you to close your eyes, so just do it.

I played Waking for 25 hours and completed around 75% of the game.

Gameplay Overview

Waking is a gamified SELF-REFLECTION EXERCISE, that has 2 big parts: gameplay and meditation. Being the main character of the story, you will fight your way out of a coma by killing mobs and rebuilding memories. You will run, pick-up objects, aim, shoot, and continuously select different spells to fight.

As objectives are completed, a voice asks you to CLOSE YOUR EYES and invites you to travel deeply into YOUR PERSONAL MEMORIES. Waking is not a traditional action-adventure gaming experience. To experience the game as it is meant to be you need to be opened to a self-reflection experience.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps

Ori and the Will of the Wisps

If you enjoyed Ori 1, do not think further, buy Ori 2, it is the same but better. A tribute to traditional Metroidvania games but also Rayman 1, Hollow Knight, Guacamelee, all of these - Ori is simple (a bit too easy), smooth, efficient, BEAUTIFUL, very pleasant in terms of gameplay, with pretty but shallow music, BEAUTIFUL, lots of collectibles, BEAUTIFUL, also BEAUTIFUL… So yeah, that game is beautiful, Imagine Everdell the board game but animated in 2.5D. Simply magnificent drawings. It is much more narrated/story (action-story) driven than the 1 - a colorful, yet very sad story (my son cried). A village like in Hollow Knight to upgrade, some hard bosses and final levels reminiscent of Celeste, and sometimes vibrant visuals a bit like Yoku’s Island. In any case, if you enjoy well made Metroidvania action platformer, this game is a must buy, period.

Perfect sequel to already an amazing game. Every flaw present in Blind Forest has been either changed or repaired in Will of the Wisps. But let’s start from the beginning.

Ori is of course a metroidvania, and it perfectly represents the genre. All upgrades are nicely introduced and movement with them is very smooth. Combat has been greatly improved comparing to first game. Instead of running and spamming attack button, here you can actually choose different abilities, making fights much more dynamic and interesting. Music, graphic design and lore, just like in Blind Forest, are incredible.

Explore Girl · Rope Sprite

Pretty good dungeon crawler game, cute girls with arms bound by sprites. Interesting idea, limit the girls to ferocious kicks and doging.

Real player with 4.2 hrs in game

It’s not as good as Bondage Girl by the same creator, but despite the glitches and bad enemy mechanics it is a playable game.

It has a girl and she gets tied up a lot. What else did you buy this for? Getting tied up when you lose works and fighting your way through to the end works. So overall the game works.

EDIT AFTER COMPLETION BELOW

–—————————————————————-

So far this game is a lot of fun. Working smoothly on low spec computer with youtube and other programs running in the background. Dev is active in discord if you’re interested. I will update review upon completion (if possible since i sssssuck).

I’m not big on platformers but the art style here drew me in. Every stage is a marvel,

! fair warning before you hit third stage boss, that hallway startled me.
